Staff make us feel welcome

Reviewed Jan 28, 2020
The hotel is close to the beach, about three kilometers away from the Old City. For me, it was a nice walk, always along the beach. The hotel is not luxurious but it is nice, mainly because the staff welcome you in a nice way. To have coffee/tea and biscuits (for free) at any time is very agreeable. The only thing I didn’t like so much, is the fact that the breakfast is in a café, about 200 meters away from the hotel; although they serve good food, I would have appreciated more to have it the hotel. Enjoy!

My first gripe is that they advertise a really nice Israeli breakfast at the hotel and show pictures. in reality there is no breakfast at the hotel and you are given vouchers to use in a near by chain cafe. which i must say was ok.
The room was small flaking paint work on the walls, air con had a mind of its own. mold in the shower. A doggy plug socket on the wall. The chain to the door was broken and the shower vent was filthy and I had to ask for more towels daily. I know you get what you pay for, but these are simple things that can be rectified.
on a positive note the staff are nice and helpful. the location is great and 2 mins from the sea front and shops the other way. One word to describe this hotel. BASIC

Right! Let’s not beat about the bush- the first time you see the outside (and inside) of this hotel - you will be wondering what the hell you’ve booked - and no- it looks nothing like the rather clever photos on booking.com etc.

But!!!

Once you get over the initial shock- this hotel is actually a little gem! Let me explain why!

Price- Tel Aviv is incredibly expensive (especially with the weak GBP) - so this hotel was cheap and affordable for us! Plus- Who comes to an amazing city like Tel Aviv to stay all day in their hotel? No one!

Staff- couldn’t do enough for us! They moved rooms for us when we complained (try and get room 205 if you can!) helped us with directions, hair dryer, extra towels and taxi bookings. Always smiling and friendly.

Breakfast- awesome!! Everything from scrambled egg, pancakes, breads, cereals, fresh melon, pastries and traditional Israeli food and orange juice!
Hot and cold water available 24/7 - so you can make yourself a cuppa and fill your water bottle up anytime. Coffee machine and hot chocolate also available!

Shower- endless hot water and worked beautifully! As many towels as you wanted! Just ask if you don’t have enough

Room- basic but very comfortable- great AC and lots of space to hang clothes, safe for valuables etc.

Location- Brilliant and definitely the best thing about the place! 2 min walk, if that, from Jerusalem beach. Central to pretty much everything and anything! We were no more than a 30 min walk from all the ‘must see’ sights!

WiFi- worked brilliantly! Never any issues.

All in all- this hotel is perfect for dumping your stuff, laying your head down and having a decent shower- while scoffing your face with a great and varied breakfast (tip! Put a few pastries in your pocket for a snack for later). It’s not luxurious or beautiful- it’s tired and in desperate need of a renovation- also surrounded by building works (which surprisly weren’t an issue at all). I’d recommend for people on a budget who just want to focus of city exploring and not fussed about what their accommodation looks like.

I usually do not leave bad feedback, BUT... the pictures of this hotel are deceiving and not real. The hotel rooms are actually old, dirty and smelly. The condition of the hotel is better seen on google maps: old, dilapidated and falling apart. Front desk NOT helpful. Management pathetic. Not recommended at all..!

Room tip: NOT recommended at all..

We decided to visit Tel Aviv for Pride, so prices for hotel were quite high. But we found a great deal for De La Mer and the location was exactly what we were looking for. Very close to the beach and some really nice bars. We arrived late at night and were given room 100, which was literally in the lobby. This was clearly a spare room and we did not get a good night sleep, since there was so much noise from guests coming and going. In the morning we asked the friendly staff if they had another room for us and he quickly solved the situation and we got a really nice room om 2nd floor. Rooms are small, but spotlessly clean and with very comfortable beds. We slept excellent every night, especially since the ac was working very well too.
Breakfast was absolutely perfect, with many traditional israeli dishes. All items were quickly refilled and the guy working there was great!
All in all, De La Mer is an excellent choice! Great prices, nice rooms and very friendly staff! Totally recommended!
