This hotel was a real haven for me for 2.5 days and 2 nights. I'd arrived early before a scheduled Viking River cruise so that I could acclimate to time changes and an overnight flight that involved a hellish transfer in London's Heathrow Airport. The young man on duty when I arrived spoke excellent English, checked me in quickly since I'd made a reservation months beforehand, and gave me directions to my room. There was a small elevator that took me to the 2nd floor, and when I used the key to open the door to my room, I was stunned. The room was a large double with 2 separate beds, a comfortable sofa, 2 smaller chairs, a table and a desk. The bathroom was spacious with even a heated towel rack. I was delighted with the cleanliness as well as the view out the front windows which were double-glazed, so I heard no road noise at all. I opted for 2 full breakfasts for the mornings I was there and was pleased with the large selections at the buffet. All the personnel were friendly, helpful, and kind. I needed help in contacting Viking due to changes in the embarkation process due to high water levels, and Joao, the afternoon/evening desk clerk helped me by using the hotel telephone to contact the Viking guest services help - as well as calling a taxi for me the next morning.
The hotel is located above the old town which is just a 10-15 minute walk downhill, so I couldn't have asked for a better location. There are also nearby restaurants just down the street. If I were to return to Basel, I would definitely choose the Hotel Rochat again - and definitely feel lucky that I found it in the first place.
