We really enjoyed our stay at this quaint, but modern hotel. Check in was easy, staff are friendly, and the breakfast buffet had lots of options to choose from. It is a 5 min walk to the Marktplatz through nifty cooridors and there is a grocer at the end of the street (Lebensmittel Mini Lädeli) if you need extra food or care items.
Breakfast costs approximately CH 16 (+$22 CAD), but the quality is worth it. Lot's of cheese (creamy Swiss varieties), scrambled eggs, fruit, meats, breads, sausages, bacon, and a few wrapped take-away items. The coffee is from an automated cappicino machine and it's pretty decent.
For an older building I was surprised how well kept and clean it was. There was no 'old' smells or permanent carpet stains. In fact the whole city is very clean.
The rooms are tall and spacious with mid-century styled decor. My only wish would be for more hooks. There were no hooks to hang additional items.
I loved the sound of the church bells next door, but heads up, in typical European fashion, they sound off every 15 mins - including through the night. The first long bell is at 7 am, which is when breakfast is ready anyway.
The only discomfort we encountered was getting to the rail station for our departure which was no fault of the hotel's, but rather impromtu city construction along all the tram lines in the Altstadt. We tried getting a taxi/Uber, but they kept cancelling. So if you plan on staying at Rochat and are journeying without a vehicle, make sure to take time to determine your route to the train station. It's only a 25 min walk, but with heavy bags you'll want to book a lift.

We spent two nights in Basel at the Hotel Rochat. The staff there were extremely pleasant, helpful and fluent in English. Rooms were large and accommodating, price was fair. The hotel is located conveniently close to public transportation and restaurants. If you arrive in Basel by a riverboat cruise the hotel is also within reasonable walking distance of the docks and 15 minutes by taxi to the airport. Breakfast is not included in the room rate.

Stayed for 2 nights and as above Friendly welcome, Decent sized Room (believe some of the rooms in the OLD Wing are a bit small). N.B Rooms in the new wing will require a short walk and some steps). Hotel very quiet except at 7.00am and 6.00pm when church Gells ring for about 1 minute
Hotel Breakfast is a typical small hotel breakfast Buffet. Good cheeses and cold Meats, normal Hotel Scambled Eggs:).
Location at the Top of town, but very close to the Centre (Tram Stop close by)
Walking - either steep set of steps down to Market Platz or a very attractive stroll down a couple of lovely winding streets, shops, cafes..... (What goes down has to go up). Very competitively priced

Hotel Rochat is located in central Basel, just inside the Old Town of Basel, and most local attractions are easily reachable b<y walking. The rooms are comfortable and surprisingly large. Ours was basically a duplex with a very large twin bed and a bathroom on a walkup level. Rates are more than reasonable for Basel. Parking is difficult, but there is a huge underground garage within easy walking distance (with a maximum fee of CHF 25 per 24 hour period). Friendly reception explaining to you how to get around town and how to get to ne of the many museums.

The hotel is close to the university and the old town, but far enough from the tourist centre that it’s nice and quiet with nearby restaurants full of locals. We arrived early not expecting to be able to check in (just wanted to leave the luggage), but the room turned out to be ready and they upgraded it to a much bigger room with sofa and arm chairs. Nice!

Having said that, for the standard of the room, the facilities were somewhat basic. The room didn’t have any tea/coffee making facilities, although they did provide us with a kettle and cups when we asked for them.

Also, don’t forget to take the key card even if you’re inside the hotel! There were a couple of doors inside the hotel that needed key cards to open. I didn’t realise it when I went to get the kettle and cups from the reception, so I had to shout at my husband from the courtyard to come downstairs and open the door!

This was a great hotel, a little bit off the beaten path. Ideally located a short walk from trams (which get you almost anywhere) and convenient walking distance (10-20 min) to many tourist areas. Room was clean and there was daily maid service. Not quite as many business services as a Marriott or the Radisson, but the prices are more reasonable and it has a nice local feel.

Hotel Rochat is perfectly located in the old town if you are a first time traveler. Very clean rooms and helpful staff. The breakfast is of a great choice and you can enjoy free tea or coffee during the day in the breakfast room. The only downside might be the long corridors and some flights of steps.

We had one night at this hotel.
Love Basel and from train station you can take the tram (free of charge with your confirmation) N°11 (St. Louis Grenze) until the stop Universitätsspital.
12 minutes travel time.

The church bell sound does not bother us. Room was beside the church.
Big room but no coffee tea facilities.
Reception told us that we can get free hot drinks at the cafe area by 7pm.
Our sleep is ok and it's a good location.
Basel is small does we just walk and took those free trams to explore.
Highly recommended b

Hi. I'm sorry for not seeing your quesiton earlier. No there isnt a shuttleto the hotel, but at the airport there is a tram directly outside. It will take you into the city area for free (as long as you hold onto your boarding pass). You need to change trams with the scond one dropping you off about 200 metres fron the hotel. The tram system is very easy to negotiate. The hotel will provide you with public transport free passes to use whilst you stay at the hotel, so you wont pay for any public transport. The Viking terminal is about a fifteen minute easy walk along the river. A great hotel with a really good breakfast as well. Hope this helps :)

Hi - Just wondering if the hotel has an elevator to the upper floors - thanks, Mary
Answer from michelelasker
Tulsa, Oklahoma41 contributions49 helpful votes
There was an elevator that I saw in the main building and there was an elevator in the newly refurbished building. I am not sure how we lucked out and got the newly refurbished building with a huge room and luxury bathroom, but we certainly enjoyed it. They didn't charge us anything extra either. So, I would ask nicely for a room in the new building and stand your ground on the price. You are three blocks in either direction from restaurants. If you go up the hill the restaurants are better. Down the hill the restaurants are more middle of the road.
