Very easy access to the convention center and the Messe Basel: 9 minutes by car or 14 minutes by tram. Very good access to Airport Basel: 12 minutes by car or 30 minutes by bus. Contemporary urban design, friendly and bright, likeable service, rich breakfast buffet with lactose and gluten-free, vegan offer. Free Wi-Fi. Not much indicated from the outside out: in this haven of peace and relaxation in the middle of the city. Here in the garden you can have breakfast in warm weather and take your aperitif to be. We loved our stay at this hotel, we received a very warm welcome from Martin at reception. The room was compact however it was well designed and it has everything we needed and more. The shower was particularly fabulous and the hotel even provided robes and slippers! Breakfast was lovely, there was plenty of choice and we also enjoyed a lovely welcome drink at the bar. Very easy to get to from the airport or main train station. Highly recommend this hotel if you are travelling to Basel. We loved it!!

I stayed 2 nights and it was great. This is my experience:
Before I arrived, they sent information I might need, like how to go to the hotel. On my arrival, the staff was super friendly (they were all the time), invite me a welcome drink and showed me personally my room. They also offered maps and an adapter (very useful if you come from another country and you don´t know you need one).
The Hotel itself isn´t huge, which is nice, because that means there are few rooms, so it is quiet enough. They have a beautiful garden and spacious dining room. The location is very convenient because it is well connected, by trams and buses, and it is close to the central station and city centre.
My room was one of the smallest ones they have (that's what I chose), and it was exactly what I saw in the pictures when I booked it. It was small but cosy and enough for me (or a couple). In the room, there was a tv, hair dryer, towels, tissues, soap, bathrobe, toilette paper, coffee machine with mugs, a pitch with glasses (you can refill it with the water dispenser they have on each floor), a safe, a small wardrobe, umbrella, houseshoes, some magazines, a phone (which I didn´t use, so I am not sure if it is only to call reception or also for regular calls), and some laundry bags (so I guess they have laundry service, but also not sure because I didn´t use that).
If you wish, you can choose between 2 types of breakfast, small or big buffet, I chose the small one that cost around 9 CHF for bread, juice, fruits, yoghurt, corn flakes and 1 coffee.
For the checkout, the receptionist was also very friendly and gave me a small bottle of water on the house to take away.
In my opinion, the price for this room and service is fair. I wouldn´t say it is cheap, because you can definitely find many options that are cheaper, but also it isn´t as expensive as some other options, so maybe midrange to a bit high. But since it is well located, cosy, clean and with friendly and helpful service, it's worth it.

We spent two nights at the hotel and had great access to the old town. The staff were so welcoming and took time to explain everything, We were taken to our room and provided with a carrying bag to leave with. Breakfast options were great and the availability of fresh fruit was welcome. In the evening you were welcome to have a drink (one free) and some munchies (chips, etc) .. if you took more than one drink they asked you record it in the book and they will charge to your room. Honour system. Coffee machine was available in the lounge area.
Rooms were compact, but met all your needs. Appreciated the storage closet . Nice shower with toiletries. Beds were comfortable and hotel was very clean. Staff helpful and made dinner recommendations.

This is our favourite Hotel during our two months of European travel. The staff is very friendly and most helpful. Great care has been taken of everything and we felt relaxed. The breakfast consisted of healthy and delicious food and was a good start of a day of sightseeing. Coming back, we found the garden a tranquil place to recharge and to enjoy an afternoon drink. The modern interior of our room is very well suited to the small space and a lot of thought must have gone in the detail. The location is excellent, close to the station, town and public (free) transport. We had a wonderful time!

We were thoroughly pleased with our recent visit to this hotel. Parking was directly opposite in a multistorey publuc carpark for €24 for 24 hours.
From the moment we entered the hotel staff went above and beyond, nothing was too much to ask. They were highly informative of the area and very compassionate offering water and anything else they could to make you feel settled.
The hotel also offers a free evening drink in the bar area downstairs which is pleasant. Given the hotel is within 2 minutes walking distance of the centre, we were pleased to see it had a lovely garden area with water features and candle lit in the evening. Such a lovely touch.
Would highly recommend this hotel if visiting Basel. We would definately choose this hotel when we return to Basel. It truly was pleasant and the staff are fantastic!

Basel is a very much underrated tourist destination that should be on everyone's radar. It's medieval district is one of the most lively in Europe and the Kunstmuseum is a must visit art gallery.
The Steinenschanze is located only a minute or so from a stairway that leads directly down into the historic district, but far enough away not to be bothered by noise from late night carousers.
The rooms are a decent size for Switzerland with electric blinds that can be lowered or closed for a better sleep. The bathroom is marble with a very good shower. One unusual feature was the presence of a vinyl record player with a selection of LPs. I suspect some guests might not even know how to use one. The only thing missing was a mini fridge.
The hotel has a very nice garden area where you can sip the cold glass of complimentary white wine they offer on your first night. It's also a good place to enjoy breakfast, but that is not included in the price.
The staff are extra helpful and upon our checkout they presented my wife with a birthday present of Swiss goodies. They had noted it from the date on her passport. It was a very nice gesture.
The Steinenschanze is mid-level price wise for Switzerland which is still on the higher side by North American standards.
One caveat - don't even think of trying to walk here from the train station even though it's not that far. The complex of multi-level roads outside the station is so confusing that even with Google maps we got lost. Thankfully strangers who noted our perplexity stopped to assist us when Siri didn't have a clue.

Amazing hotel, ideally situated to everything. Staff and facilities were First Class. Lovely room and great little touches to make staying there so easy. From here you can also do one day trips to France ( Collar ) and Germany ( Frieburg ) within 45 minutes for under ten pounds. Basel itself is just stunning. Quite honestly the most professional hotel team I have encountered.

En route to Basel Airport and chose to stay one night at this Hotel which is located close to Basel SBB station , take bus 30 for 1 stop. It’s an older style building that has been refurbished. Eva at reception is very knowledgeable and helpful and made our stay a very pleasant one. She organised our Basel card (for free transportation) and also gave us the option to check in earlier as we arrived around noon. The room we got was well appointed with plenty of amenities for the small space. Bathroom is a bit tight on space but still manageable. We came back later for our welcome drink which was a nice touch. Breakfast the next morning was a good spread of cold cuts, cheese, pastries and bread.

A very comfortable and convenient stay. Friendly service from all of the staff and especially from Eva who dealt with us the most and who is truly interested in your comfort and convenience. All the staff was personable. The room was comfortable, well appointed, clean and very quiet. It was only when we went to breakfast that we realized the hotel was mostly full. The breakfast itself was, bar none, the best hotel buffet breakfast I've had in a long time and the breakfast room is spacious and gives on to a gorgeous and surprisingly large garden. The overall interior architecture of the hotel is pleasant and makes clever use of the space so that you don't feel you're in a relatively small building. Both room and hotel have everything you need, but not more than you need, somehow, so you come away with a feeling of very good value.

Everything was better than expected! The room was advertised as small, and they are but not cramped, very optimised and slick. Super clean. Simple yet tasty quality breakfast. We would like to inform you that we do not have a parking garage in our hotel but there is a public garage just on the other side of our hotel (Parking Steinen). There you will pay about CHF 25.00 for 24 hours.
On arrival you can stop with your car in front of the hotel entrance and after check in, we will show you how to go to the public parking.

We arrived to Basel via train from Zurich in May 2019. It was easy to catch the bus to this hotel. It was one stop away ( 2 minutes, I think) and the ride was free. You can ask anyone at the bus station and they will tell you exactly where to go. You COULD walk, however, we found it easier to catch the bus with our luggage. You will LOVE the hotel and staff!
