Good experience - would recommend

Review of Yoga Weeks
Reviewed Jul 22, 2023
Stayed for 2 nights in a shared twin room midweek.

Accommodation - the location of Yoga Weeks is great, really convenient to La Rambla and to explore Barcelona. The accommodation is as described, the rooms were clean and comfortable. There is aircon in the common areas but not the bedrooms, although there are fans. The bathrooms (2 shower rooms with toilets and 1 only toilet) were a little tired but clean. They are very flexible too about when you arrive/leave.

Yoga - as others have said, each teacher has their own style, with some doing a more traditional vinyasa style and others focussing more on stretching, especially on hot days. I preferred the morning sessions, but that was likely due to the teachers. The rooftop is a nice setting, but the mats are very thin so I would advise using at least 2 as otherwise very hard on your wrists/joints. The retreat has exclusive use of the roof, so guests can go up on their own if they wish too.

Food - the provided breakfast was tasty, although less of a traditional ‘brunch’. On the first morning we had stuffed sweet potatoes and salad, and on the second wraps with peppers. There are plenty of options for pastries etc nearby if you prefer that though.

Overall I really enjoyed the stay, and would have stayed longer if I could. Everyone was really friendly, although due to the turnover of guests there was less of a community feeling that I was expecting.

I stayed for 4 days in a single room during the main holiday session.
The apartment was fully booked and all people I met where lovely without exceptions. The community at this place made it overall a good experience and nice, little adventure.

The yoga: I had three different yoga teacher during this time. I wasn't convinced by the teaching abilities of all three. However, I had a view classes with Mar and she is an extraordinary teacher. She will guide you safely, with all necessary cues through the asanas and with her passion for teaching yoga she really creates magical moments. Thank you Mar for this great experience!

Regarding the housing: No, it's not a five star hotel, it's a spacious shared apartment with basic furniture, right in the city center.
All common areas are cleaned every day. It's not spotless clean (light switches and doors are a bit greasy) but I found it acceptable clean.
What I found quite disappointing, however, was the fact that my room had a window but no daylight. That looks quiet different on the website. I asked for another room but at this time all rooms were occupied and from what I saw, out of 7 or 8 rooms only 2 have windows with daylight. You should also know, that there is no key to your room. The room is always open but the front door of the apartment is only accessible with a key.

In summary, this might be a place for you, specially as a solo traveler, if you want to explore the city and do a little yoga on site.
If you are looking for a quiet, bright and relaxing oasis for your vacation you have to look for a different place. If you an regularly practicing yogi and you are looking for a retreat were you can bring your practice to the next level I would properly also not recommend this place.

We stayed for 3 days in June, with yoga in the morning and evening. The teachers are very different from each other and each have their own style, but all really nice and friendly. During the day we explored Barcelona on foot, the place is pretty central with 40 mins to Sagrada Familia, 5 minutes to the Gothic Quarter, 30 minutes to the beach.
Don't expect a hotel, its a shared flat, and more of a community feeling - which was super nice. I'd definitively consider returning if it works out with life and work and all.

As others have said, this is not a five star hotel, but an authentic experience in the heart of Barcelona.

Fabulous location, really central and easy to get to the main tourist areas and close to Metro.

The building is absolutely stunning, but has a faded charm, shabby chic is perhaps the best description. Don’t let the dreary entrance hall put you off, once you get inside it’s bright and airy.

The retreat would benefit from adding a bit of luxury feel - for example, we only had one towel each, a hand towel and a robe would have been nice. Simple touches like a small bin in your room would also be handy.

I really enjoyed the yoga, very dynamic lessons and Anna in particular is a great teacher, loved the practice.

Lots of reviews mention the food, it’s very fresh but some of the fruit juices were ‘interesting’ at best and no one was quite sure what they were! Some mornings I found it a bit early for chickpea stew and salad, but that’s a personal thing.

Ana and her team are always striving to provide the best experience. They are listening and looking at ways to constantly improve the way that the Yoga is carried out. I have no doubt that their hearts are in the right place.

Room tip: Ana is very good at catering to your own needs, you just need to ask

I travelled here solo over Easter and reading some of the reviews on here beforehand slagging this place, I was slightly nervous. I shouldn't have worried!
Agreed, it's not a 5 star hotel so if you are expecting that, look elsewhere. If you want absolutely peace & quiet, look for a remote location, not town center. This is a quirky, characterful little flat in Barcelona's old town, historic with lots of original features, so do expect some creaking/noises. It's 5min from La Rambla, in a very busy location, however I didn't find the bustley noise disturbing during practice and it was quiet at night. Everyone who stayed there during the same time was respectful of the 10pm night-time.
The dishes served during morning brunch were delicious, however a bit more variety would have been nice - maybe add some yoghurt or a few extras from a more continental breakfast (eggs, toast). It was nice to chat with everyone over breakfast & make plans together. There was a sense of community which I appreciated as I was travelling alone. During my time here, pretty much everyone was female & travelling solo.
My bedroom was basic but spacious (shared twin room). Could be improved slightly by maybe having a second mirror in the room so I don't have to walk into someone else's space to use it. And maybe some more storage space / stools in the bathroom to leave clothes when showering. There's a hairdryer and some basic toiletries if you forget anything.
I enjoyed the yoga on the rooftop in the fresh air - there were different teachers, some a bit more advanced than others but you should be fine as an intermediate. The equipment provided (mats, blocks, blankets) was fine but maybe bring your own if you're super fussy.
Overall, the location is great & central, everyone was super friendly, the teachers were helpful and gave tips on what to do & see. I felt safe here and easily met like-minded new friends. Would definitely go back. A must try nearby is Chök - a little chocolatier just down the road with the most delicious pralines, donuts and pastries.

Room tip: There's a washer/dryer for doing laundry. You can store & prepare your own food in the communal kitchen. No lockers/safe for valuables.
