Review of Market Hotel
Reviewed Mar 29, 2023
The worst hotel ever
i would recomend to avoid this hotel, if you don't want to have a bad experience in Barcelona
First of all, is dirty, as inside as out, you will not have even a bottle of watter in the room, the rooms stinks honestly stinks, don't think you will have robes and slippers in the rooms, the bathrooms looks loke you are back in 1980,the restaurant bar is allways closed, the brekfast is a big no.
Avoid it please

We were disappointed that what was on offer was not in the room! Previous visits were before pandemic 2019. We know the area but checked with reception before we left for public transport and problems in room
There was one employee who was really helpful-Laura in the breakfast room was very helpful- the lady at reception was employed in hotel since 2007 we think was lovely. In the evening the man in the restaurant was really helpful too- we took coffee to our room.
But there was one male who was so unhelpful!
3 times our room key work didn't work- first guy came and said he'd resolve problem- the unhelpful male didn't move from the desk- we said we'd write about his zero help- he booked us into wrong room- and listening to him with other guests his mantra seemed to be- you can talk with my senior in the morning!
Overall we would not recommend the hotel- some staff are friendly and helpful but our first impression at the desk was not good.
You possibly were affected by the pandemic with your business- as were hospitality sections in our own city- so it is important to help guests
One last thing- all sanitisers were empty at the elevators- luckily we still carry bottle of same and could ensure our own safety against coved.

Room tip: ask for a room with a balcony- first floor ones had small terrace where guest could relax- this time our request was ignored

First the positives, beautiful building, restored thoughtfully. Sits in a fairly quiet street. 15 minutes walk to Las Ramblas & the Barri Gotic. Also a large comfy drench shower.

Negatives however outweigh those positives. Room was small, as expected, I’d booked a single. However, it had two windows that could be opened, but they opened into what seemed to be a dingy service area.

They had to be opened as the room was overwhelmingly hot. That then let in the smell of what appeared to be drains. There was also a persistent sound of running water. Thinking about it later, I guess it was drains being flushed. There was also a constant pitter patter sound, like someone slapping something. This continued throughout the night.

This was all in February which had been unseasonably cold. I dread to think what this room would be like in the middle of summer. There was an air on unit high on the way. But I certainly wouldn’t take a chance on it.

Sadly despite the building being very beautiful, I wouldn’t consider it again.

Room tip: 15 minute walk to main tourist area. Most direct route is through an area which might definitely be called edgy. Best to be aware.

The building is old which gives it charm but it’s all down hill from there. The room was dirty, the shower walls were damaged and the hotel staff not helpful. Could not even get a iron and iron board.

Disappointed
Booked a superior double room. Twin beds. Massive wall mirror opposite the beds...A chair but no desk. Hot,stuffy, noisy air con. Less than average bathroom. All television in Spanish as though this wasn't something people ever used in this room. No curtains. A gap where something used to be , like a chair. Not three star.

Room tip: Get a picture of your room before you pay

The staff were pleasant enough on arrival but not particularly friendly. The hotel is in a nice location. Sant Antoni is a lovely area with trees and cafes and has good connections to the rest of the city. The room we stayed in was very dark and stuffy. Both windows opened out to a dark and smelly gap between the buildings. You wouldn't know what time of day it was as the room was always very dark. It is also very noisy and you can hear other rooms talking, walking, the sound of a telephone kept going off and there was also building works going on. Wouldn't really recommend this hotel unless you stay in a much nicer room.
