This was a great find and equally great stay. We will come back the next time we have a trip to Barcelona. Great location, off the main street but near enough to all that you would need and quiet enough away from the crowds. The roof top views and food selection created a really relaxed upscale feel. The team were so polite and helpful and the reception area and room itself were real quality stuff. Thanks for a great stay!

Convenient location, a block away from La Rambla. Nice pool and bar area on the roof. But the staff left much to be desired. To me, the staff makes or breaks a hotel. There are a lot of options in the same location with a nice pool and bar. I would never stay here again or recommend this hotel.

The staff are so very welcoming and accommodating. We stayed in four different rooms in total (due to several stays) and they were all lovely. Clean, well-appointed and spacious.
Breakfasts were generous and covered all of our dietary desires. Roof top pool is perfect. A great place to cool down with a bottle of cava, enjoying the breeze, day-beds and tapas served from the rooftop kitchen. Food was excellent.
When our flights were cancelled, Hotel 1898 acted warmly to help us arrange a further stay with them... and a few free glasses of Cava to relax us again.
The spa downstairs is for 16+ but they did allow us to book a 30-min session for our 10-year old to join us in there when it was raining the rooftop pool closed.
Location is perfect, right off La Rambla and over one road into the Gothic Quarter. Taxis could be hailed from outside the hotel with ease.

We received the very best service in the most beautiful hotel in the centre of Barcelona, on La Rambla. It’s ideally situated, just a few minutes walk from Placa Catalunya which is right in the middle of everything - yet as soon as you enter, you know this is a calm and sophisticated oasis in all the activity outside. Lighting is low throughout the hotel and there is a gorgeous scent throughout (I forgot to ask about that!). There is a welcoming bar on the ground floor and the most heavenly Spa with a superb swimming pool, sauna and treatment rooms in the lower ground floor. Irina is an amazing masseuse.
Our room on the 5th floor was unique. It was enormous, the bed was dreamy, very well maintained, decorated in their trademark colonial style and so quiet. We were celebrating so we pushed the boat out and we were fortunate enough to have our very own sizeable cooling jacuzzi pool on our enormous private terrace along with sumptuous sunbeds, a dining table for 6 or 8 and seating for entertaining a fair number of friends, had we wanted to.
The breakfasts in the first floor dining room were superb with eggs made to order and warm and welcoming staff (thank you so much Ana, Sebas and Paula). Even the most wonderful hotel is nothing without helpful and knowledgeable staff. We were so impressed with the team at H1898 - nothing was too much trouble and we were made to feel very special indeed.
Without hesitation, we recommend H1898, a wonderful hotel that has set its own high standards of comfort and quiet professionalism which other hotels will struggle to emulate.

Excellent rooftop restaurant & bar with a pool. Rooms have very comfortable beds and large bathrooms. Room service selection is limited, but coffee is good. Lower rooms can feel vibration from Metro underground. Pool in basement requires a reservation. Perfect location for Gothic area and great restaurants.
