Great for football break!

Review of Hotel Medicis
Reviewed Apr 8, 2022
We stayed here as part of a football break deal. Classed as 2 star hotel. Very pleased with our stay. Comfortable room, very comfortable bed and great shower! Nice fresh clean smell when we arrived so obviously been well cleaned before our arrival. Bathroom was good size and as said previously, great shower. Lovely reception staff both morning and night and very helpful/knowledgeable of the area and how to get to the main sites - even marking on our map what metro or bus routes, numbers to take etc which was a great help. Loads of wee cafe/bars for eating etc. Overall great wee hotel with lovely friendly staff and the comfy bed at the end of a long day sight seeing!

Great location next to a taxi rank and local bus stop only a 7 minute walk to Sagrada Família. Plenty of restaurants and cafes near by. Breakfast was good plenty of choices cold meats, fresh fruit, yoghurts, breads, teas, coffee and juices. No hot option apart from toast. Hotel staff are really helpful on local knowledge of what to see and where to eat. Rooms are clean and simple, nice little touches like shampoo, shower gel, soap, tea, coffee and water. Safes are for rent with a refundable deposit of €25. Only downside is noise from other rooms as the walls are thin and traffic outside. Bed was comfortable and the linen smelt lovely 😊

My husband and I checked-in at this hotel on our 1st night at Barcelona since we're supposed to stay at an Airbnb during our trip but unfortunately, the 1st night was already sold-out. Our travel agent recommended this hotel which has a great location - so near UNESCO Heritage sites as San Pau and La Sagrada Familia. Straight from the airport, we went to these places after a short rest and quick lunch. Beautiful sights! The front desk staff - Carolina was very professional and helpful plus can speak English. She suggested that we vsiit these 2 places and showed a map on how we can go there just by walking - a mere 10-15 minutes of walking. Buffet breakfast is just light and enough - so you won't get too full. The lady at the cafe was warm, friendly and helpful, too. All in all, we enjoyed our very short stay. The room is quite small so free space might not be enough if you have big luggages. . We had a long, good and restful sleep since we were pretty tired from the almost 20 hours of travel.

Wife booked this hotel based on good reviews but didn't have best experience.

Pros:
- polite staff that can speak English
- decent location; nice short walk to La Sagrada; close walk to metro (San Pau Dos de Maig); lots of good places to eat nearby
- larger room than i expected
- complimentary water...on first day only.

Cons:
- lots of mould in bathroom ceiling, wall tiling, caulking; kettle
- extremely thin walls/floors; sound travels super easily even when neighbors lightly talking or moving around
- plumbing was such that every time the person upstairs flushes, uses sink, or turns fan on it is VERY loud and annoying
- front desk gave me a very hard time trying to get change when paying for things like hotel tax on check out
- the safe didn't work
- AC doesn't actually go past a certain threshold temperature set by building (couldn't lower it past 24)

Stayed here for three nights in august as part of British Airways package. Ideally placed as short walk to Sagrada Familia with metro and bus stops meters away. Reception staff very friendly and provide lot of very helpful local and touristic info when checking in. Can not fault the service. Hotel is very clean, modern and rooms ideal for visiting city as spend most of the time exploring or eating!

The room is exactly as advertised, stylish and modern, though very small. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The manager really knows his way around the city. He gave us a map and showed us how to use public transit to get around so we were able to travel like locals for our entire trip. He also has expert opinions for shopping and eating. The breakfast buffet was delicious and included many options. The neighborhood is excellent. You are a 3 minute walk from San Pau Dos de Maig and a 10 minute walk from La Sagrada Familia. The neighborhood has several shops and restaurants to go to without the tourist trap prices that you get in other parts of town.

My only criticism is that a small child could easily fall from the balconies and the sliding doors leading to the balconies don't lock so beware if you have small children. We just stacked all of our luggage in front of the door to keep the baby away.
