Fantastic trip

Review of Hotel Suizo
Reviewed 3 weeks ago
We were 2 couples staying in this great hotel.
Location fabulous, everything in walking distance.
Staff lovely and exceptionally helpful.
Rooms great size. Although central, not noisey. Comfy beds.
Could only be improved if there a kettle in the room.

Fantastic location in the Gothic Quarter, literally at the back door of the Barcelona Cathedral. Metro station (with elevator) in front of hotel. But, there are some homeless characters. Nothing like having breakfast & outside the window is a fellow urinating at the Metro stairway. Hotel is surrounded by restaurants/bars, shops & a popular pastisseria next door. Very close to a numbers of squares. Front desk speaks English & very accommodating & helpful. We arrived early from cruise port & they stored our bags. There's an elevator & we were on 2nd floor facing the side street. Fairly good size room with balcony. Street noise was not an issue because balcony doors are fairly thick & blocked out a good deal of the noise. AC worked very well even at night. Breakfast had a good variety of hot & cold foods. If your breakfast is not included, you can pay at front desk, then take receipt down to breakfast room. Another great service is the front desk can arrange taxi service for you. It's a busy area with construction on Laietana so allow a little extra time for taxi, but we rarely had to wait more than 10-15 mins. The hotel routinely uses the largest taxi company so you can trust you won't be scammed.
Shower controls in room takes some practice, especially when switching from overhead to hand-held shower head. Due to water conservation your sheets are changed every 5 days, but let them know if you need it changed sooner. Also, if you want towels changed, be sure to leave them on floor.
I initially made my reservations through Hotels.com, but cancelled when Hotel Suizo had an on-line special, which would save me almost $200 on a 5-night stay. Would definitely stay here again.

The hotel is nice. The location is incredible, and their staff is very kind and welcoming. The breakfast buffet was also delicious and well stocked.

The room did leave more to be desired, however, we only stayed one night so we were not concerned about asking for any “extras.” They placed us on the top floor where the rooms are small and there is no windows, only a skylight, which does open. There is a small guest elevator.

The beds (I say beds because they gave us two twin beds side by side versus a double bed) were uncomfortable. They gave us each one pillow, but I found an extra in the closet. There were enough beds to host three guests if needed. The bathroom was nice and shower spacious. GREAT water pressure.

Overall, we were pleased with our short stay. The location and staff made up for all shortcomings of the room. The hotel is located right next to a metro station and in the beautiful gothic quarter. Would recommend for anyone in need of a quick stay in the heart of Barcelona.

Dear guest, thank you very much for sharing your experience. We are glad that you were satisfied with your stay, especially since our staff made up for any inconvenience. The room assigned to you is an attic room, which while sometimes can be quaint and charming, can also be a bit smaller than others. Still, as you mentioned, the shower is spacious. We appreciate your understanding, and it would certainly be a pleasure to welcome you again in this or any other of our hotels in the group. Warm regards, Monica S. Bande. (Customer Service)

Hotel Suizo is in a great location to walk everywhere downtown. One can also take the underground which is right outside the front door to see sites outside this area or go to airport. This boutique hotel is surrounded by car-free cobblestone streets lined with small restaurants/bakeries/unique stores. Our room was small and basic with a good shower and comfortable beds. Breakfast buffet is very extensive with a self-serve Mimosa area and a thick-hot-chocolate machine. Front desk staff gave exceptional service. Would recommend.

The good: The hotel was clean and located in the perfect location. It is walking distance to the trendy restaurants in El Born, the Picasso museum, the Barcelona Cathedral, and the Gothic quarter. It is also very close to several metro stops and it is easy to explore Barcelona with this as your starting point.

The bad: We arrived late at night, around 10 p.m. That meant that we were stuck with a room in the attic. Before this trip, I had no idea that attic rooms were even an option. The only window was on the ceiling, and it was not large. You controlled it with a remote, but it had a mind of its own and started opening at 6 a.m. The next night we were able to remove this setting but I still felt extremely claustrophobic inside the room. I felt like I was in an ant house or a reptile cage to be honest. It did not help my jet lag at all and I was barely able to sleep. The room was also tiny. I know this is a budget option, but I recommend that you save up a bit more money and stay somewhere nicer. This might be okay if you are only stopping in for a night or so. You get the basics. The staff was also not the nicest. The first night I asked where to go eat at 11 at night. They told us to go to Pizza Hut. Barcelona is a party town, you're telling me there is nothing to eat late at night? Luckily we found a decent spot on our own. They also gave us attitude about asking for a cab on our last morning. They told us that it might not come and that we should have really asked them the night before. It came in less than 10 minutes. Overall, if you are in a pinch, it's fine, but I recommend you stay elsewhere.

No fridge and no kettle in the room absolutely blows. It was the only hotel in our Europe trip without these amenities and they were all at a similar price. Get it together people!

Room tip: If they put you in a skylight room, dont be like us. Ask for another room. Dont go quietly into the night.

Dear Guest,
We appreciate your positive comments about the location and cleanliness of our hotel. We regret that the room did not meet your expectations. The size of these rooms complies with the legal standards required for our category. It is important to mention that our attic rooms are just one of the several options available and, while they have a unique charm, we understand they may not be to everyone's taste. When occupancy allows, we are more than willing to facilitate a change. Our Reception Department is always eager to assist as much as possible, and we regret that the dining suggestions provided were not to your liking; however, we are glad that you eventually found a suitable restaurant. We sincerely regret that your experience did not meet your expectations. Kind regards, Monica S.Bande Customer Service.

Hotel Suizo was a great choice for our family of 4 (two are teens) traveling for spring break.

We opted for the family room with two single beds and one double and, while the room wouldn’t be considered spacious, we had enough space for our needs. Note that we travel light, so if each person in your group has multiple suitcases, you may be a little cramped. I’m adding a couple of pictures of the family room layout because I couldn’t find any others on here when I was looking before our trip.

The bathroom was a little larger than most European bathrooms I’ve had. It was basic, but very clean and modern.

The French balcony is a great addition, and our room had two of them. We were on an upper floor of the south side of the hotel, and it was a little noisy at night. The street on the north side would have been quieter. At the end of a long day of exploring, the noise didn’t really bother us, though.

The location was perfect for us. The front door is maybe 30 feet from the Metro entrance which was nice because we arrived from Madrid by train and just connected from the train station to the stop at the hotel.

Being in the Gothic Quarter, you’re surrounded by cafes, shops, and restaurants. Barcelona Cathedral (not Sagrada Familia) is a 5 minute walk and La Rambla is about the same.

Breakfast was a typical European breakfast buffet, and the quality was good. The service at breakfast was a little cool, but the rest of the staff—especially Roger and the guys at the front desk—were always friendly and we enjoyed seeing them when we came and went.

In short, Hotel Suizo was a great choice for our family.
