This was an OK hotel. I think I'm being generous with giving it 4/5, but it wouldn't take much for this to be a really good hotel, whereas I think on the whole it's pretty average.
The receptionists were all consistently welcoming and polite and said hello every time I walked through reception. The reception layout was a bit odd with the bar immediately opposite reception but I didn't spend any time in the bar anyway so it wasn't an issue.
The room was fine. It was pretty large, but quite dark due to a lack of natural light and not many lights. It was a bit tatty around the edges; the laminate flooring was badly chipped and the wire on the desklight was frayed - things like that. Also the room was quite stuffy and uncomfortably warm at night. I'm not sure if the air con was turned off as it was out of season, but however low I turned the dial, although the unit made the right noises the air wasn't cool.
Other than that, everything was fine. The room was clean, the staff were polite and there was a safe, free WIFI and a minibar in the room.
The location was almost perfect; 10 minutes walk to Sagrada Famillia/San Pau Modernista, 20 minutes to the beach, 30 minutes to Pasaje de Gracia, 35 minutes to Las Ramblas. There are two Metro stations (serving two lines) within 10 minutes; Gloria (L1, useful for Espana), and Monumental (L2).
There are plenty of supermarkets, restaurants and bars within easy walking distance just by walking up the street.
