This hotel is a very mixed bag.
I'm posting a new review, as on Tripadvisor there is no way to edit old ones.
I booked this trip to a five star hotel in Barcelona for my partner's 30th birthday. Booked a double guestroom and we arrived around 3:30pm, so about 30mins past check-in time.
Notes:
- I had left in notes that this was a special occasion, and a double bed would be preferred as well as some birthday decor. I booked through the website, but was told it is best to call ahead of arrival to ensure any special requests will be taken account of and prepared. -- The staff provided a little card and fruit platter (delicious) on the second afternoon in the hotel. - It was much appreciated, thank you.
- The first room we received had two singles and was in a desolate state (Rm 303 - shower head and lamps falling out, various other damages, AC not working). I did not receive support or any understanding from staff on the day of our arrival (even given special occasion of the trip and request made beforehand) and they claimed no other rooms were available. I tried again on the second day, and the staff for the day kindly provided us with a new room with a view as well - thank you for the upgrade, it was appreciated.
- Spa: we booked two treatments for our last evening in the hotel own spa - or so we thought. I went through the Melia App, through my own booking at the Melia Sarria Hotel, to the section that forwarded me to the list of treatments to be booked.
When we arrived at the Spa however, it turned out our treatment was, without any prior notice or information, booked into a Spa in a DIFFERENT HOTEL - about 20-30min away by taxi - unacceptable. As we were leaving early the next morning, we requested a refund (the Hotel Manager Alexis was very kind to support in this request - however I am still waiting for said refund to arrive - it seems to be a bit more of a complex process).
Tip: Call the spa or go directly to spa reception in hotel to book in for treatments. Even if you go through your booking in your app, there is no information where you'll be booked into.
- Spa Facilities: no clear information how much basic spa access costs hotel guests. Various information provided (calling hotel reception, flyer in hotel room, information on website, and in the app) - prices range from 9 Euro pp to 20 Euro pp. The steam room could be stronger (no col water hose), the sauna was appropriate though rather small, the pool was pleasant.
- We did not use the restaurant - no comment
- Room Service:
--Do not try and book through the app: the list is not complete - call room service and ask for the menu to be brought to the room and order via phone.
--Dinner: food was nice and warm, arrived within 30 mins.
--Coffee in the morning: arrived within 40 mins (relatively long wait time) - coffee was not hot, two pastries were added as a bonus.
- Location - the hotel is not quite in city center, but it's easily and quickly accessible by taxi of which there are plenty around. There is a handy 24hr store across the road.
- Rooms (Melia Guestroom and Premium City View):
-- generally the hotel rooms show signs of clear, long-term usage. The veneer is pealing off on many surfaces, glass walls are damaged in the bathroom, quick fixes have been done to some furniture, technical installations like lamps, vents and similar are either hanging out of the ceiling. Comparing it to other 5* hotels, it just simply misses the mark and clearly is due for a serious renovation. You can tell the staff is generally kind, friendly, accommodating and puts in alot of effort - but the things is, that it's not dirty - things are just broken or too damaged.
Thank you nevertheless for the effort of the staff to make us feel taken care of.
