Solid Service, Nice Location, Corner Suite is a good value

Reviewed Apr 20, 2024
PRO:

- I saved a lot of money by booking months ahead and paid three star hotel prices for what turned out to be a four star property—IF you book a suite
- Location is good if you do not need to stay in the central part of the city
- Abundant selection of very nearby restaurants, supermarkets with 0 to 10 min of hotel
- Hotel staff members at every level were consistently professional and very competent.
- The property is older but well-maintained, updated, clean and was quiet inside and outside during my entire stay.
- Cleaning service is daily (check as times vary by day); cleaning staff were first class in responsiveness and attention to small details; a well-managed team.
- Nespresso machine and 3 complimentary coffees with condiments, replaced daily
- Insulated electric tea pot for hot water and complimentary teas and tea service, replaced daily
- Mini-bar with snacks and beverages. reasonable prices…for a minibar
- Bathrobe, in-room safe, slippers, large towels, shower AND bathtub (separated), usual laundry bag and forms
- Sleeper sofa in junior suite living area
- Bathroom hairdryer had a convenient 110v-220v outlet for USA electrical plugs

CON:

- Elevators are slightly larger than airplane lavatory and require you to open and close outer doors by hand. There are two elevators, but riding with a stranger in either one is more like a first date. They need to fix this.
- Standard rooms may be a bit too small for longer stays, but the junior suite was more than comfortable.

WARNING: Lobby LOBBY DOORS ARE LOCKED FROM 11 pm to 7 am! Oddly, guest room keys will not open the door. I had to wait for front desk clerk to buzz me in, but they were not always at the front desk when I arrived after 11 p.m. (Dinner, cena, is around 10 pm in Spain, so I found this practice to be strange.)

RATING: Standard rooms = 3 stars, Junior Suite 4 stars; Solid service, value and location = OVERALL RATING of 4 Stars * * * *

DETAILS:

I loved staying at this hotel because it returned great value my money and exceeded my expectations for a three star property. Location, value and staff, especially the housekeeping team, changed my initial impression from three to four stars.

There are several NH branded hotels in this area of Barcelona. Because I was traveling alone, I looked for a place without the more expensive amenities that my wife deserves and usually likes. I made the right choice with NH Les Corts Barcelona. Even so, my wife would have loved the close-by L’illa Diagonal upscale shopping mall, which sits along one of Barcelona’s most important roads, Avenida Diagonal.

I booked in January 2024 for my eight day stay from April 10 - 18, 2024 and reserved a top floor "junior suite with special view and terrace” for exactly €1435.53 or €179.38/night INCLUDING all fees and taxes.

The comfortably sized eighth floor corner suite had a very nice view of Barcelona’s mountains. On a clear day, I could see a small portion of the Mediterranean Sea. (Photos of terrace and room submitted with this review to TripAdvisor may or may not attach. IDK.). Outdoor furniture included two lounge chairs, a table with two more chairs and several nice planters.

As other reviews noted, the hotel restaurant, like most neighboring eateries, have typically limited menus. The property is surrounded with small, family-owned restaurants, fruit and vegetable shops, supermarkets and most every service the many residents of this Les Corts neighborhood may need. Hotel guests also benefit.

My research showed that Barcelona’s city water supply is among the world’s best so I enjoyed drinking tap water for the first time traveling abroad and save a ton on bottled water. Even so, complimentary (glass) bottles of Spanish water com with the room!

I did not use the subway (metro) because I found easy downhill walks into even more “touristy” parts of central Barcelona and then took 4-9EUR taxi cabs back up the hill. It took me less than 10 min to walk by various Metro stops, had I wanted to use the train.

Good hotel at a good rate. The stay was good. Breakfast was okay but can be better. Not much choice in the breakfast menu. Front office staff were very good and did hospitality at its best.

Just one feedback about the lift/elevator. The need to open and close the door is very old fashioned and could be changed especially for people with luggage.

As we walked into our room, we noticed that the sink in our room was clogged up. Immediately we reported it. We stayed for 5 days and it never got fixed unti lthe last night We left a message for hotel manager, but she never returned our call. Email a complaint to their corporate office. They didn't believe us.

The best was the breakfast and friendly staff. However the wifi is insufficient to work during my stay. I also had a terrible experience because one of the rooms had loud music the entire night and the reception was unable to solve it.

This hotel is in an ideal situation for travellers to Barcelona. Close to Barcelona Sants station, and several metro and bus stops. A short walk to a great shopping centre on the Ave Diagonal. Excellent facilities. Clean, well set out rooms. Lovely, friendly and very helpful staff. Highly recommended.

I stayed her while attending the ISE Show. in Barcelona. Nice residential area, easy in and out, VERY clean facility and rooms. Top floor, room 804 was great and worth and few extra Euro's for the private terrace and extra room space to relax. 2 elevators here, the right side one (small) got stuck twice, had to be rescued and let out. Take the daily breakfast add on for a few Euro's more, worth it.
