There's budget hotel and then there's.... this. The pictures and the room I got are completely at odds. I paid 70 euros a night so although on the budget end, I do expect a few basics in line with similar budget hotels elsewhere. I was assigned to Room 14, this is more of a large closet than a room. It's really dark, and instead of mitigating this by adding daylight-type bulbs, there's cheap yellow bulbs that just make it depressing. Most egregiously, the bed is a low bed on wheels, with a mattress that moves with just about every sneeze. It was hideously uncomfortable. Again, for 70 a night I would expect a normal bed - not fancy, by any means, but at least on legs!
The room was described as facing an internal courtyard. This is in fact the shaft for a large (and architecturally beautiful) apartment complex. Essentially, it meant no sleep - constant sounds of toilets flushing, TVs, radios, people getting to know each other, snoring etc. The staff are nice enough but mysteriously lose their ability to speak any language if you complain about anything.
Be aware there's no air con, which was absolutely fine in September but if you visit in Summer you will essentially be in a very hot small box. There's no mini fridge to keep a bottle of water cool. The towels provided are threadbare and not particularly clean - again I wasn't expecting luxury fluffy towels, just clean and fit for purpose.
Beware that 'reception' only operates 9am-9pm, which is idiotic. And if you need something during the day you'll have to ring the bell and hope they answer. At 9pm they disable the bell. When my room key stopped working (at 9.30pm), I was able to get hold of someone on the emergency number (which is only INSIDE the corridors, so take a picture of it before you go out). Turns out, someone had forgotten to change the battery for the door lock. 30 mins and one electric drill later, I was able to get inside.
The area itself is lovely - close to a metro and Aerobus, there's some really great local bars/restaurants and a very lovely cafe/local bakery right outside the hotel. At 70 euros a night, I really was hoping for a decent sleep, a bed that stays still and a towel that actually dries you off - these are not unreasonable expectations!
