Hi, this is Carolina, Bed and Beach Guesthouse’s owner and the person you spoke to during your stay here. I must say your review doesn’t come as a surprise. I’ll try and explain myself. You arrived expecting a hotel, not a guesthouse and didn’t like it here from the moment you realized your mistake. It was a non refundable booking so I understand the frustration. You made sure your frustration showed by complaining about almost everything: aircon not working, balcony door not properly closing then not sealing, distance to the beach (which can easily be checked using google maps), and for all them I went to your room with you to show you how everything worked fine. You even complained about other rooms’ facilities even though the guests staying in those were happy. Then, one morning, you found ants in your luggage and hell broke loose. As you explained, you forgot an open bag of cashew nuts for 2 days inside a suitcase next to the balcony and ants eventually found their way there (there is a big sign in the kitchen warning guests not to leave food open for long periods, as we have a garden across the street and and ants are smart). I apologized and offered to clean and check for ants but you wanted none of that, “your trip was ruined”, “this was an infested place”, “ants had bitten you and your girlfriend while removing them”. You wanted a refund and demanded that I immediately find you another hotel and I refused. I did because I felt you were trying to force that refund from the very first minute you stepped in here, threatening us with a bad review at every single complaint, no matter how unfunded they were or our response, and I didn’t like that. You’re absolutely entitled to reviewing us according to how was your stay here, and we read all reviews as it’s important for us to know which things we need to improve. However, it was not our fault that you booked a guesthouse instead of a hotel and you were trying to make us pay for that.
Just 3 notes I want to add:
- The device you saw on the ceiling is a cheap plastic fake camera, it doesn’t even have a cable. We installed it years ago just in case anyone tried to sneak into the guesthouse as it looks real only at a quick glance. We do have surveillance in the access to the guesthouse though and we check who comes in and out.
- It is really sad that you had to throw in a random cockroach picture only you know where you took it to make your review more colorful and hurt us. You know how bad it would look. It’s not true.
- The day you left, I went in the room, to check for ants to make sure everything was ok, and found your little revenge. You had disposed your bag of cashew nuts in the shower drain and smashed them until nothing was seen from outside, my guess is with the intention to clog it and cause a big mess. Luckily the shower drain has a double bowl system that can be extracted easily and I could take the nuts out without any damage. I still find it amazing that you took time of your holidays to plot and do this.
