We sat outside. Pretty nice! Service slow. We had to ask for water 3 times and it arrived after dinner. Expensive tap water. The food was expensive and not First class. Not a number 1 restaurant at all.

Based on the reviews I was expecting a bit more. The beer was fine and the Dunkel was tasty. The Gose beer is an acquired taste. Sour, salty, wheat flavor, bit sweet all in on glass. It was good but not my thing. The ambience is what you come for. It is the classic German beer hall. Loved this aspect. The food, not as good as I have had. I had a Schitzel, frits and salad. The schnitzel while large, the breading was falling off of it and it was luke warm. The proce point i though was too much. 26 Euros for a schnitzel and fries.
All in all, go in have a Gose because it is so unique but I would think twice before ordering the food. Maybe the Pork knuckle was better??? It is a cool venue so at least go look inside.

Unsere Original Leipziger Gose ist ein s.g. "sour beer". Es wird mit Koriander und Salz gewürzt, der saure Geschmack kommt von zugesetzten Milchsäurebakterien. Hier gibt es nur zwei Möglichkeiten: entweder liebt man den Geschmack oder man hasst ihn...
Die soufflierte Panierung bei unserem Wiener Schnitzel ist beabsichtigt und ein Qualitätsmerkmal. Das schreibt u.a. WIKIPEDIA dazu: "Die Brösel dürfen dabei nicht angedrückt werden, damit die Panierung trocken bleibt und „soufflieren“ kann, also das Schnitzel nach dem Backen nur locker umhüllt." Natürlich macht unser Erklärungsversuch Ihren negativen Eindruck nicht wett. Wir hätten uns deshalb gefreut, wenn Sie gleich direkt vor Ort bei unserer Servicecrew Ihre Kritik geäußert hätten, als erst jetzt im Web. Selbstverständlich hätten wir Sie dann auch sofort für den "Mangel" entschädigt. Gern können Sie uns mit einer direkten Mail (an winkler@ratskeller-leipzig.de) und der kurzen Angabe zu Besuchstag und -zeit (eventuell haben Sie ja auch noch die Rechnungsnummer o.ä.) sowie Ihrer IBAN (Bankverbindung) eine Nachricht senden. Got a table for 2.
My wife went to the toilet and the waitress came with menus while she was away and tried to get me to order a drink for her.
I refused when she came back the waitress came again and made some comment about me being afraid of my wife.
Wr ordered food and the waitress tried to reccomend the most expensive wine on the list which we refused and came back 3 or 4 times while we were eating to ask if we were enjoying it.
I eat faster than my wife and she came to clear my plate while my wife was still eating.
When we paid the bill she said tip not included, god knows why we would give a tip.
Not the best experience which is a shame because food and venu great.
The waitress was a very short asian lady with short hair.

Fantastic authentic beer hall beers and food.
Lovely friendly and helpful staff, we arrived at 6pm on a beautiful summer afternoon, so unsurprisingly the huge amount of outside tables were booked. The hostess suggested we could have a drink outside in the sun until the tables were required and then she would find us a table inside for food. We had a beer taster of 6 beers and the hostess added two others to try, fantastic wheat, blonde, dark etc selection.
Glad we ate inside so we could see the interior of this amazing characterful building. Fantastic food and good advice from the waitress on what to order.

Fine - prices were not as good as some other places for the type of food we got, but it was pleasant and the outdoor seating on the Platz was nice.
