Had a long weekend in Barbados, chose this hotel b/c it was a Marriott affiliate. Cab from airport about 20 min (about 30 on return, I think the driver took the scenic route), 20$ each way (called around on the way back, a few asked for 25).
Pros:
-Upgraded us to a 4th (top) floor ocean view room. B/c its across the street from the ocean, you have to be on 4 to really see it. Nice balcony for relaxing.
-Staff was always smiling and friendly (albeit a bit on "island time", but that's my own American impatience)
-Could walk to lots of beach bars and restos (and always felt safe). Could also walk to a few convenience stores, wine shops, etc
-Hotel included breakfast, which was surprisingly good. There was a made to order omelet station, fresh fruit, lots of local and western options, and Sunday had smoked salmon. We went out for breakfast one AM and spent more than the upcharge that included breakfast was (the island, while not expensive, is not cheap)
Questionable:
-Pool. Super basic, and covered in sun during the day (super hot, few umbrellas). We never went here during the day but did do a few night swims, which was a nice option
-As mentioned in other reviews, the hotel across the road on the beach lets Courtyard guests use it as well, which was awesome. However, the last day a security guard for that hotel (who could not have been more pleasant) told us that regretfully CY guests were not able to use the beach chairs (but could stay on the beach). As we only had an hour left at this point we didn't argue or question, but TBH this would have changed our entire stay, as the first few days we spent blissfully reading, napping, relaxing etc next to the ocean, under the palms, on the chairs (also unsure why no one mentioned this before but again, our trip was over).
Cons:
-Hotel needs a facelift. Carpets in halls stained, (rooms have tiles which I loved, very clean), bathrooms need a remodel, door to balcony was broken (screen fell off and door wouldn't lock). We never reported b/c we had nothing valuable in the room but still annoying.
-There are an insane amount of taxes and fees added to the bill (about a third of the room rate). That's crazy, even for a beach hotel (which isn't even on the beach).
Overall, enjoyed the stay, If you go out to the left, a few blocks down you can get on the boardwalk and take to a lot of bars and restos. There's this super cute beach bar in an airstream-Oasis (not to be confused with Oasis Beach bar) that serves super reasonable prosecco, wine, beer and pizza, great sunsets, nice owners, fun patrons and great sunsets.
It's also within walking to the UNESCO Garrison, George Washington house, etc and I thought the location nice. Just don't expect luxury:)
