the people at this hotel are cheerful and attentive. the rooms was so cold when we got there we had to rearrange the heaters and there only a couple of plugs in the room and plugged into that causing a power outage in parts of the hotel. the door is an old style key and is suspect at best for security and fire resistant the windows are very old and the air blowing around the windows added to coolness of the room at least they had an extra blanket in the dresser with exception of the bed the furniture is 60 or 70s vintage the rooms where clean as the bathroom was as well there is netflex in the room that worked well but no coffee maker but there was a fridge ordering food takes a while we ordered the fish and chips and waited an hour to get but was ok i think the entire hotel needs to be brought up to modern day standards we have stayed 3 times and the cost of the room is no bargain i think next year we would be looking elsewhere

Was visiting my home town for a talk at the local HS and got in the night before. Though the room was cramped, it was VERY clean and when I messed up the TV remote, someone was there almost immediately to 'set me right'. Ate that night downstairs and though the menu is limited, the food was great. If someone were wanting more variety, there are many eateries within a 5-10 minute walk. On a sidenote, this was the same place where I was kicked out of the bar for being underage in 1979!

After a tire flat on our way to Algonquin Park we've been forced to spend the night at Barry's Bay. Everything was booked but luckily we stopped by the Balmoral.
Liz (the new owner) came downstairs and rapidly accommodated me and my family in 2 rooms. She also called a mechanic she knew to get a new tire. Since there was not such a tire, they looked everywhere until she ended up booking an appointment on the closest Canadian Tire located 1 hour from Barry's Bay.

The rooms were very clean and comfortable. We slept over and the day after we went for a walk on the town while Liz came up with a plan: She would drive us 1 hour to look for our tire but instead she lent us her truck so we could do what we needed to do to replace the tire since our car was parked in a gas station.

Needless to say that Liz was very helpful, charming and very attentive. We'll definitely return there in our way to Algonquin Park or just to say hello as it was a memorable stay with such an amazing hostess in that little lovely village!

Thursday trivia night proved popular but when we got the 'bum's rush' from our server before the game was even over it was rather off-putting, even worse when she presented a dinner bill that was close to $100. Servers that work purely for their own convenience will be the ruin of any customer service business. The bar 'decor' also leaves something to be desired; the lighting is cold and uninviting as are the tables farthest from the wood stove in the winter. Food was fine, if it makes a difference.

Was there for lunch, table of 4, restaurant was not busy and to get the attention of the server was impossible. Cost of meals was high and the food was nothing that wowed any of us. The fish tacos was nothing but a piece of over breaded cod with little flavour in the slaw that accompanied it and the nacho chips with it were stale and the pico was watery tomatoes with no flavour. The ‘wild’ burger that was a mixture of bison and other game was dry and again without flavour. First and last time for us I ams sure.

We ate lunch at this bistro with some of our hockey team. There was about 20 of us and we arrived without warning. Everything on the menu looked so good it was hard to choose! The food was delicious, the service was excellent. I had the portobello mushroom sandwich. Delightful. One of the teens on our team kept raving about his burger as the best he's ever had in his whole life!! We did not expect such a gem of a restaurant in the tiny town of Barry's Bay. I just had to leave a review. Don't hesitate to eat here. I will make a point of going back whenever I am in the area.
Incidentally, we went on to win our hockey game so it must have been the food, right?

A friend and I went for lunch. Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate and we were not able to eat outside. Inside was very noisy. There appeared to be only one wait staff and there was quite a delay in service. The food was ok, fries undercooked. It wasn’t until we used the restrooms I was more concerned. While the sink and toilets appeared clean, the floors and baseboards were filthy. I am sorry, it concerns me what the kitchen looked like.
I won’t return

Food was good. Overpriced pub food. $18 for a burger! Menu is not very large. They were out of BBQ chicken and BBQ Ribs. Had fish and chips. Could substitute a salad for the fires. It was tasty. Staff was very friendly.

We stayed for a night after paddling in nearby Algonquin Park and found it the perfect place to relax aching muscles. The room was spacious, the bed soft and the bathroom what you dream about after camping. All facilities like fridge and WiFi were in best shape. The next morning, the compulsory breakfeast we not only enjoyed tea and tasty muffins, but a long and pleasant chat with the landlady. If we ever come in that part of Canada again, we will definitely book the place again

we were looking for a place to stay in Barry's Bay area on day 2 of our 3 day snowmobile tour and it was the only place available (it was family day weekend). The hotel is easy to access from the trail (its right on the trail). It was a little weird checking in because there is no lobby, you check in at the bar. The hotel is old, but has charm (more like a B&B). The room was small but clean. The bed was comfortable. There is a portable heater to heat the room, which kept us warm. For the price it gave us exactly what we needed after full day on the trails, peaceful, comfortable sleep.

They lock the hotel front door when the bar closes at 4 pm so you have a room key plus a key to get into the hotel after hours. For food we went on our sleds to the Ash Grove Inn Restaurant (5 mins max).

Overall expectations were met as a sledding enthusiast who was just looking for a comfortable place to sleep.
