The Hyatt Union Square New York boasts a modern and elegant atmosphere that many guests find inviting and serene. While the hotel's central location near NYU and Union Square is a highlight, some travelers express that the cost does not equate to the value received, pointing to high expenses for what they consider mediocre experiences. Room cleanliness is generally upheld, though their small size and occasional noise are noted. Reviews of the service are mixed, with commendations for staff friendliness alongside criticisms of inconsistent service delivery.

Hotel's Favourite
What a great location which is ideally located to terrific restaurants, bars and shopping venues. The hotel is very clean and has a boutique vibe in the overall look, furniture and there was even a jazz group that played in the hotel bar. One thing I do want to point out is how willing the staff was to make EVERYTHING perfect during my stay. Top notch in execution and it's very clear the staff loves what they do. Hats off to Roger, who I saw engaged with a person who wasn't…very polite. Roger kept his composure and went above and beyond in accommodating this rude individual. Keep your head when others around you are losing theirs. I can't wait to stay again at this location. Just can't say enough about the visit.

I needed to visit NYC for a followup appointment for a surgery that I received last summer. I arrived at the property on Monday the week before Christmas and stayed for two nights.

The room was indeed small as others pointed out, but nicely equipped. I arrived off of a red eye from LAX and after a baggage fiasco, didn't get to the hotel until around noon. The did have a room available for me at this time, which was amazing. I instantly attempted to take a shower, but after about 30 seconds, the fire alarm started blaring. I assumed it was some building-wide event, but it was actually only in my room, and brought on by the steam from the shower! Kind of crazy. I was happy that they were able to move me to a different room, but I was warned that this is a problem the hotel has in general. Luckily, this didn't re-occur in the second room I was given. Besides for the shower fire alarm, my only other criticism that the hotel could somewhat easily address is the TV situation. The TVs seemed on the small side and the TV / entertainment console was this weird plastic material. It looked like it was taken from a Carnival cruise ship from 2002, definitely in need of an upgrade. Only other gripe is that Delta lost one of my bags. Unbeknownst to me, it was delivered at 9:00 pm on my second night. Since it had my name on it, it would've been easy for the staff to look up my reservation and give me a ring, but no such effort was made.

I really appreciated the fact that the hotel had a hot tea and coffee stand setup in the lobby. Additionally, my Globalist status awarded me breakfast coupons that I could use in the restaurant. It was so nice to be able to wake up and have a fresh, hot breakfast and tasty coffee in the onsite restaurant. After two nights at this hotel, I moved to what was supposed to be a more luxe hotel uptown (Conrad Midtown) and even they couldn't provide these things for me! Bravo Hyatt! I didn't get the chance to checkout the cool bar / distillery attached to the hotel, but I'd like to in the future. And of course, the hotel's location in Union Square is fabulous. I paid around $250/night and for the quality and location of the hotel, I thought that was very fair. I'd definitely return!

New York's Union Square neighborhood is a bustling center of restaurants and other great experiences. The Hyatt is a very reasonably priced option less than a block off the square. The rooms are small but well designed. They include a small refrigerator and a good sized bathroom with very good quality towels. The hotel has a great bar and restaurant on site as well. As a business traveler I appreciated the number of power outlets at the desk and options not only for television but the incorporation of Chromecast into the system so you can stream video from personal devices. A very well thought out hotel.

My family recently booked a few rooms at the Hyatt Union Square on a weekend. Having read all the reviews, I really wanted to avoid staying at this property, but the family event we were attending was just around the corner, and this is a part of Manhattan with very little choice of hotels. So, I reluctantly ponied up 25K Hyatt points/night for my stay. At least that was way less painful than shelling out more than $500/night, including tax, for such subpar accommodation.

Having been primed by all the negative reviews to lower my expectations, I wasn't too bitterly disappointed by my stay. The lobby is indeed tiny and crowded, front desk service is perfunctory, and the front entrance was boarded up with plywood during my stay. But, I did manage to check in without a long wait, so it could have been worse. My room, as expected, was small and dark, with outdated decor, and showed quite a bit of wear and tear. It faced the interior courtyard, so had no view to speak of, but the upside was an absence of traffic noise, so my sleep was undisturbed. One nice, unexpected amenity in my room was the mini-fridge, which allowed me to keep drinks and snacks chilled. The bathroom was clean and spacious enough, but the towels were thin and scratchy--the kind I'd expect in a budget motel. However, I was pleasantly surprised that when I texted the hotel asking for a bathrobe and extra toiletries, these items were delivered within five minutes.

It's a shame that the hotel's owners don't seem to have spent a dime on upkeep, maintenance, and service at this hotel, instead relying on its prime location to keep the rooms occupied. If I hadn't absolutely needed to stay right at this location, I would have been much happier spending my 25K Hyatt points per night at a much nicer hotel elsewhere in Manhattan, like the Thompson Central Park.

Room rates are $400+ for one person per night in a no frills room. $35 amenity fee, in addition to rate. Zero COVID restrictions in all of NYC. Only after you check in do you get a piece of paper stating that, due to COVID, housekeeping provided once every 4 days. They’ll drop towels outside the room if you need them, or you can go to the front desk to get the 2 bottles of water included in the $35 daily fee. Room service, which is (as with every hotel) very expensive, is available. Anything that brings additional revenue to the hotel is apparently immune from concern about COVID. Any services traditionally included in the room rate or mandatory fees? Sorry, no can do. Seriously?

This is nothing but greed and the choice not to be transparent with guests during the reservation process is deceptive.

Thank you for your review please note we provide information prior to arrival related to the change to services. While Covid restrictions have been lifted there are still affects of it in the hotel industry and many hotels have not been able to go back to daily service. We fell in love with this hotel, with its convenient location and pleasant environment, when we visited here four years ago. As soon as the city reopened, we redeemed all our Hyatt points for a one night stay to relive that experience. Our checkin last Sunday coincided with the pride parade. Nearby streets were closed to car traffic and jam packed with high spirited, boisterous celebrants. Tents lined the street fronting the hotel entrance making access to the lobby somewhat challenging. Our compact room was clean and comfortable. However the overall stay experience was different this time as some hotel services and many nearby shops were not in full operation yet. To their credit, the hotel provided bottled water in our room and there was freshly brewed coffee in the lobby in the morning (something the Marriott Marquis where we stayed the previous 3 nights failed to do).

Poor value for the money. Floors in bedroom and bathroom were dirty and dusty with the grime sticking to the bottom of my feet and socks. Corners had accumulated grey dirt in the corners. Used my towels to clean the floors which should never have to be done in any hotel. The sink was inadequately cleaned but the shower appeared ok. Paper cups and tiny toiletries with very poor quality hand towels ( not satisfactory for any hotel let alone a four star property) led to disappointment in my $500/ night stay. The terrace was very nice but the furniture was dirty, both chairs and tables. The one above average item was the bed. Comfortable.

The hotel location is excellent, the decor is not really what I would have chosen for a hotel that aims to be high quality but that is a matter of taste. The room and the bathroom were clean and in good shape. But what made this a disappointing experience was the poor service. They didn't clean the room, the phone didn't work, so to order room service I had to go to the lobby, they sent the food (expensive food from the restaurant) in cardboard boxes, without cutlery so I had to go to the lobby again to claim them. The restaurant is good, I would recommend it. But I doubt that I will come back to this hotel. The person in the front desk tried to help, at least.

Thank you for your comments we appreciate you taking the time to let us know about your stay. At this time the hotel is not providing daily housekeeping service and we are reviewing this for the future. AS for your comments about in room dining during Covid all restaurants went to a take out model and the hotel partners at Bowery Road have continued as many guest are more accustomed to this experience. In the future please note we have a texting feature that all guest can utilize to request items to be repaired, delivered or replenished.

We stayed a week at the end of August to move our son into college. The room was very comfortable. The location was great, central to many places and subways. At night, your room key is required to get into the main entrance after a certain time. We appreciated that security feature.

The best part was the staff. Carolyn and Lea happened to be on shift whenever we needed assistance. They went up and beyond what was needed to help us with some very unusual situations. We had a number of packages shipped to the hotel prior to and during our stay. Carolyn dug them out from the storage room for us each time. When we needed to return some of the items, Carolyn and Lea found the original box we discarded, and gave us some stuffing and packing tape to use without me having to ask. Everyday, Carolyn, Lea and the other 2 front desk staff kept us well-stocked with bottle of water whenever we needed it. They were always pleasant and patient. We would definitely stay at Hyatt Union Square in the future.

We booked a block of rooms at this hotel for the weekend of my son's wedding, and based upon the rates that they charged, we expected a wonderful experience. We were sadly disappointed. One of the rooms we booked was a terrace suite, which had a large outdoor terrace where we hoped to be able to host our family. The terrace had a number of planter boxes, which had overgrown plants and weeds and had not been tended to for months. There were cigarette butts on the ground, which my grandchildren were picking up. The outdoor furniture was incredibly dirty and even changed the color of my wife’s nail polish. The outdoor area was totally filthy. When we reached out to the hotel to have someone clean it up, they never sent anyone up to our room. Anytime we called for anything, no one ever came to help. To add insult to injury, after we checked out the hotel claimed that we damaged the room, and without our knowledge or consent, put thru a "damage fee" on our credit card. When we spoke to the manager and asked for pictures of the damage and receipts for any repairs, etc., she said she was under no obligation to provide them to us. We spent a fortune to stay in this hotel, and had nothing but disappointment. Run do not walk.
