The Four Points by Sheraton Midtown - Times Square garners praise for its spotless premises and the attentive, friendly service guests encounter. While the hotel's prime location near top attractions is a major draw, opinions on the accommodations are mixed; some guests appreciate the basic, clean rooms and comfortable beds, others find the decor dated and the space limited. While the value proposition receives varied feedback, the central location and daily conveniences like complimentary bottled water are consistently appreciated. Concerns about safety near the Port Authority have been noted by a few travelers.

I’ve stayed at many hotels in the area and this was a little better than average.

This hotel is very close to Times Square and a major subway station. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was just as the photos appear, no surprises. With 4 of us staying in one 2 double bed room, I was happy to see 4 full length mirrors!! The shower had shampoo/conditioner/body wash dispensers rather than tiny bottles. There was no tub in our room but the water was hot and stayed that way even after 4 showers. We were on a lower level floor so I cannot speak of a view. While the hotel did seem busy, there are 3 elevators and we didn’t find ourselves waiting too much on them. We did not take advantage of any amenities, as there was plenty to do outside of the hotel.

While there is noise of the hustle and bustle outside, this is the norm in the area. The hotel is immediately across the street from the port authority bus terminal and I would not say it’s any noisier than other hotels in the area. Earplugs are also provided in the room.

I only have 2 complaints about our stay:

1) The main (automatic) doors were closed 4 out of the 5 days we were there and we had to come in and out through the side door directly in the smokers section. As non-smokers and with 2 allergy sufferers, this was a major disappointment to say the least.

2) It took quite a while for any type of service. For example, checking in, there were literally 5 employees at the desk (including 1 manager) assisting ONE guest—because he was paying cash—so I waited more than 15 minutes to check in when there were ample staff at the front desk to assist me. At another point during the stay, our room ran out of toilet paper (which I thought shouldn’t have happened in the first place with good housekeeping) and it took more than 30 minutes for someone to bring more up. There were a few other times we had similar requests and it took a minimum 30-60 minutes or more for service. Housekeeping didn’t answer the phone at any point during the stay but front desk did always answer promptly. Service staff were friendly and accommodating, but I felt quite slow.

Having said that, it was clean and as pictured and we had an overall pleasant experience so I would probably stay here again, assuming the main doors are operational.

This hotel is extremely well situated within walking distance to Times Square. The Reception Staff were extremely efficient and most helpful throughout my stay.. My room was very comfortable with a view across the City.
The Comprehensive Breakfast was well organized in a small area behind reception and once again the attending staff were pleasant and helpful. The Bar area off reception is very small and can become crowded. Although the Bar offers a very limited supper menu, I would not recommend this option simply because of the seating arrangement and time it takes to get your order. My recommendation would be for them to open the breakfast room for evening dinner. Having the vending machines in the basement is also a bit irritating. Overall a good experience and I would certainly recommend this establishment.

My name is Stacie Sullivan and I’m hoping you can help me with reservation 2390218136. I spoke with the front desk supervisor twice shortly after booking today (4/16) on booking.com and she said she would take care of the cancellation and waive the fee. It was only about an hour ago, but the booking is still showing up on booking.com as active.

I booked a 3 night stay for a friend who is stuck in NYC with no money, but I’m in Boston and she doesn’t have access to my card. I was told that the room could be charged on my card but incidentals would need to be charged on another card that she would need to have in her hand. She doesn’t have a card so that was the problem. I asked whether you could charge my card or pay cash and was told no.

So I had no choice but to cancel the booking and now I’m trying to figure out how to help my friend and worry about this booking at the same time. It’s very disappointing and frustrating. None of my emails have gotten a response.

I just want to be reassured that the reservation is cancelled and the fee is waived, as promised.

If someone could email or contact me when the cancellation is complete, I’d really appreciate it.

Sincerely,

Stacie Sullivan

We booked one night through booking.com two days ago. On their website, breakfast was shown as "included"; however, while checking in we were told that breakfast is not included in the price.
The bathroom in our room had no hand soap at all. After taking a shower, I noticed there were only hand towels available on the shelf, no bath towels. After calling the receptionist, we were told to pick the towels up ourselves at their desk (we stayed on 9th floor). After bringing the towels to our room, we were shocked to see that they were old ripped towels. Two out of four towels had holes in them. That just shows that the service is so poor.
How can this hotel be qualified as a 4-star hotel? Terrible service, terrible staff. Any motel out there would provide a much better service and good overall experience compared to this place.
Do not use this hotel if you don't want to be disappointed.

We had an excellent week in this hotel. Even before we arrived, the hotel gave us an upgrade and tickets to the One World Observatory as we were celebrating out 25th Anniversary.
All the staff, be it Front Desk, Bar, Housekeeping, were always friendly, happy to help, and keen to make the stay as enjoyable as possible.
We had a room on the 30th floor, which gave us an amazing view. The room itself was spacious, a large and very comfy bed, good air con, tea and coffee making facilities, which were replenished daily (with the option of calling at the desk for more if required), a safe (at no extra charge), iron and ironing board, as well as a large smart TV.
The bathroom had a large walk-in shower, with shower gel, conditioner and body wash supplied. There was soap, tissues, mouthwash as well as some other extras by the sink, with a hairdryer also under the sink.
All in all, this was a great base from which to explore New York, and allowed us to sleep well and recover from one day's walking to head off into the next.
Will be happy to return, if we make it back to New York.

December 2021 - COVID Review:

My husband and I stayed here for a week visiting NYC. The location is right in Midtown and is a short walk to many of the things that we wanted to see. Times Square is only a few blocks north and Madison Square Garden and the Amtrak train station are a few blocks south.

I guess depending on where you're from and what you're used to, the strip that the hotel is on (40th Street) can be a little sketchy at night. It's right across from the Port Authority bus station but certain parts of the sidewalk when coming from 8th Avenue can be questionable, but luckily there would usually be others walking around the same time we were.

My main complaint was the bathroom sink and shower in our room. The sink faucet is so sensitive that if you move it just a little too the right, it's ice cold, and if you move it a little to the left, it's way too hot. It was hard to find a happy, warm medium. The shower would also make a lot of squeaking noises when you turned the shower head on and if someone uses the sink while you're in the shower (it doesn't matter what temperature they use), your shower water becomes ice cold.

Overall, it was a decent stay. It wasn't a huge room, but we also didn't spend too much time in the room besides to shower and sleep. The elevators require you to use your room key before you can press any of the buttons to go up. The lobby also has water jugs and a small hotel bar.

Our Middle School Choir stayed here 4/12-16. The location is great - the immediate area is a bit sketchy, but we never felt unsafe. From the minute we arrived, the staff could not have been more friendly. Georgelina and Monica at the front desk welcomed us like family and were so very helpful throughout our stay. Rooms are bit on the small side but were clean and since we were out and about so much, was not an issue at all. The breakfast each morning was fresh, hot & tasty. Everything from bagels & croissants to fruit/cereals to eggs, bacon, french toast & sausage. The crew kept everything stocked and clean, even during the most crowded times and always greeted us warmly. There is a teeny bar in the lobby which was perfect for a quick glass of wine to end the day. The location is close to all sorts of transportation. Port Authority is across the street, subways are at the end of the block. One tip I found awesome - the front desk will arrange for transportation to the airport. It was less expensive than Uber/Lyft or a taxi and we could book in advance to assure a timely departure.

We chose the hotel for the convenience of the location. You can easily walk to restaurants nearby as well as Macy’s, Central Park and of course Times Square. Rooms are OK size wise although there is a very small wardrobe. OK for us as we stayed less than a week. It is also difficult to avoid the 3 lifts as they are located beside all the rooms on the floor. The bathroom has a good sized shower and no bath. Annoyingly the shower head could not be height adjusted and there was just a small single shelf above the sink to put toiletries etc. There are plenty of sockets in the room but half didn’t work! We also had problems with the room safe and had to call for an engineer 3 times just as we wanted to go out. On the plus side, the bed was very comfortable and really friendly staff particularly at breakfast and in the bar as well as the safe engineers. Breakfast is in a very small area and we had to queue on a couple of mornings but staff were quick to clear, clean and the breakfast had good choice. However I’m not a fan of paper plates and plastic cutlery!

I cannot say enough good things about the staff at this hotel. They were all very kind and attentive. In particular, the restaurant staff in the breakfast area each morning went above and beyond to make sure we were well taken care of.

The rooms themselves were fine. They were small, as is typical in Manhattan, but the hotel itself was relatively clean. The area around the hotel was ok. It was a short walk to the subway and not far from Times Square. Probably not the safest or cleanest area in Manhattan, but not terrible. To be honest, I'm not sure there's much of an advantage to staying in/close to Times Square. Unless you're in town to see a lot of Broadway shows, you'll still end up having to use public transportation to get to most sights.

Unfortunately, for three of the four nights we stayed there, there was a large group of Irish teenage athletes in town, and they were all spread throughout the hotel. They were unbelievably and unreasonably noisy, which really put a damper on the overall experience at this hotel. I know it's not the hotel's fault, but I do wish they would have made more of an effort to keep this group all confined to a few floors so their rooms were not interspersed between those of other guests like us. It was not a restful experience.

Overall, the staff was great, and the location and rooms were fine. I'm not sure I'd stay in this area again, but if you want a hotel near Times Square, this one serves its purpose.

We booked this hotel through the Marriot website. It was VERY reasonably priced, extremely centrally located and overall a nice hotel. We arrived early and were allowed to check in at 9am. This was greatly appreciated as we arrived early and had a tour at 3pm that we wanted to rest before. The hotel was clean. The rooms are small, but aren't they all in the city? We could walk just about everywhere...Times Square, theatre district, Hell's Kitchen, Madison Square Garden, Pier 83 for a sightseeing tour of the island from the water...just about everywhere. We did also walk to Central Park but the walk to the Museum of Natural History was a bit far so we "ubered" back. Our room had 2 double beds, a decent size bathroom with a nice hot shower and good water pressure, a desk, ample lighting, a closet and drawers with ample space and a safe. There was plenty of choices for food (Carlo's bakery was a block away), pizza delivery available, great restaurants right down the street. It was in the middle of the action for sure and the price was right. Would definitely stay again. They did have a breakfast buffet but it was $21/pp so we skipped it. Enjoy

Location: close to Times Square, bus station and metro. I felt safe. Unfortunately, New York has once again become a dangerous city, especially to walk around at night. Security: Inside the hotel, you will be safe, I left my watch, cell phone and money in the room and nothing was touched. The maids are helpful. Housekeeping: The maids, like all the staff, were attentive and kind during my stay. I don't see any concerns. I recommend Four Points by Sheraton Midtown-Times Square in New York.
