The CitizenM New York Bowery hotel stands out for its modern, stylish atmosphere and eclectic, hip vibe, which guests often appreciate. Its prime location is a hit for its convenience to dining and transit, though some have concerns about nearby areas. While the rooms earn points for being functional, their size and tech-focused features like iPad controls receive mixed reviews.
Cleanliness is a strong suit, yet service experiences vary, with reports of both helpful staff and occasional disorganization. Opinions on value and amenities are divided, highlighting both positives in smart design and negatives in unforeseen costs and limited refreshments.

The staff is so warm, friendly and professional. Food is delicious. Rooms are bright and extremely clean. You can adjust the lighting colors and levels for ambiance via in-room iPad. It also controls thermostat and tv. One free movie per day! Great mini fridge. Shower is really nice, because it has two shower heads, one rain and one hand held. As it is modular, the space is small, but the bed is big with drawers underneath, including a safe. There are two seats and a desk. It may feel small for someone over 6’4”, but that ain’t me. The view from many of the rooms is really nice, and no buildings blocking your view or sunlight. I wouldn’t pay the prices for any of the other neighborhood hotels, when they are not worth it. If you need to cook, the East Village Hotel costs two to three times the price. It’s cheaper and more fun to stay at Citizen M and order there. During non-Covid times, the shared lower level living room is large and cozy There is actually plenty of ventilation and open air in that space. I would be comfortable sitting there, even during lockdown. The rooftop bar has a great view. I have stayed here three times, and every single employee is a gem.

I stayed here at the end of december during christmas. I did stay in a CitizenM hotel before (2 times Schiphol location) so i already kind of knew what i could expect.
When i did check in i had the option to choose the side of my room, i asked a staff member which was the best option for some nice Manhattan views. She put me on the highest floor as possible so it was a good start!
When i entered the room i noticed the room was much bigger than the rooms at the Schiphol airport location. (idk if this was because i had a room for disabled people or if that is normal) and also the amazing view out of the window, Everything was clean, the bed was huge and comfy as used to and the shower was perfect.
I also ate breakfast in the cafetaria. Usually i never eat breakfast in hotels but this time i had an early morning and decided to give it a try.. for almost 20$ i had a very nice breakfast, they offer a nice selection of food and everything is fresh.
I also went to the rooftop for the views and i wasn't dissapointed.
Every staff member is very kind, from housekeeping to front desk.. they are all very friendly.. Especially Luigi from the front desk.. a very nice and helpful person, he helped me fix my zipper from my coat.. while he was helping me and calling local tailors for me i noticed he was also helping other people! big shout out to him! And before my trip i had some questions and they always answered very fast on WhatsApp
The location is also good. it takes about 90 minutes to get to the hotel from JFK there are several subway stations nearby so you have always a good transportation option to the populair sightseeing places. And ofcourse many options for late night snacks.
After all his i decided that i will always book a room at a CitizenM hotel if its possible.. excellent staff, clean rooms, good breakfast and the best beds ever!

My husband and I stayed with our two year old for three nights. The rooms, of course, are small (but let’s face it, just about everywhere in Manhattan is!), but the design is incredibly smart and rooms are well equipped and kept: the technology is great (you can use a mini iPad to control the lights, tv, temp, etc.), shower heads are lovely, they have a deep storage drawer under the bed and it’s incredibly well-furnished and CLEAN. The location is also perfect: my husband and I used to live in NY and this was a walk away from most of our favourite places/neighbourhoods, and it’s also close to several different subway lines. Since we had a two year old, we couldn’t check out the rooftop bar, but the cafe/living area below was perfect to relax by the fire on a very comfy couch while enjoying a drink. The staff is also genuinely friendly and polite- some of the best service I have ever had. I would definitely book here again!

The rooms are well designed and the hotel lively and interesting. There might be an argument that the rooms are better for one rather than two. It’s not just the space, perhaps more a personal space and privacy issue.
The bed was great and the storage and safe under it well thought out. The location of the hotel next to Nolita and Chinatown a fun one as well
The technology is great but it doesn’t work all of the time. Our controller for the room said that we needed to contact a member of staff. We did, and as older guests got that looked reserved for when your grandmother can’t open her emails. Nobody fixed it and instead we just booted it about three times a day.
There aren’t enough cleaning staff. There are plenty of instructions on opting out of your room being cleaned but we’d often come back in mid afternoon to find an unmade room. Maids were still making up rooms so it’s more of an issue of how many of them there are. For many business travelers it won’t matter but it can be an issue for tourists.
The bar in the roof is lovely but it’s very crowded and when we were there closed 4 nights out of 7 for private parties. It’s a big selling point for the hotel but it’s of little use for guests who can’t use it.
Bowery is Bowery and just outside the hotel isn’t upscale.
Some of the staff are great, some useless. You’ll also get different answers. We asked about a black car company for the airport and got different answers on the cost. None were right. One of the baristas in the cafe downstairs deserves particular mention. His great theatrics in making two lattes at seven thirty in the morning went unappreciated by me. From the clanging of the jug to the twerking of the change he might have thought it impressive. Me I looked at the coffee that he had spilt on the floor with the result that I ended up with basically two hot milks.
We stayed in a very quiet and known cheap week in January. The rate that we got was very reasonable. Looking out into the future, we are considering going back, the rates are much much higher. At the price we paid it was a great stay despite some of the issues. But at $300+ a night? At those levels expectations rise on issues like service, things working and access to the amenities (the bar).

From A-Z, my stay at CitizenM Bowery was amazing. The staff are really top notch, the amenities are fabulous, the work space is phenomenal, rooms are fairly sizable, there are no suprise charges. They really try to customize and tailor the stay for you. The in-room phone even displays the registered guest's last name as the Caller ID for outgoing calls! It came up on my cell phone as ‘Citizen LastName’ which I have to admit is actually pretty cool. The staff is soooo accomodating and so friendly, coffee is available for purchase 24/7 and I believe food is as well. Location is awesome, as there is much to see and do, including boutique shopping. I’ll be making this my go to hotel for NYC, and the enclosed rooftop bar definitely has something to do with that! Also, they are VERY COVID SAFE and I couldn’t have done a better job decontaminating surfaces and rooms myself. They are very on top of it, which includes bathroom and elevator cleaning every hour; which is way more than 99% of facilities, including medical offices, care to do. I cannot recommend this place enough!

The room was perfectly compact, without sacrificing any necessities. We especially loved the room settings easily adjusted on the supplied I Pad. The bed was an oversized King, very comfortable. The shower head is also oversized, supplying your choice of raindrop size. The room was immaculate. We enjoyed both the rooftop bar, and the canteen. We are looking forward to staying at CitizenM properties in other cities, highly recommend.

Let me start by saying the staff was amazing and took COVID 19 precautions serious. They enforced mask, social distancing, and were constantly cleaning areas that guest touched or used.
As for my stay. My room was everything! It was clean, chic and the view was awesome. The bed was comfortable and allowed for a good night's rest. Breakfast options were limited due to COVID but I was pleased with the full breakfast that was provided. The check in/out process was a smooth and the staff went above and beyond. I already plan on returning!

I stayed here for the 1st time in the 2nd week of March 2021. As soon as I walked into the doors, I received friendly service. The lobby's were clean and the attendants frequently sanitized each sitting area. Social distancing was practice and so was non-contact check-in/out. I stayed on the 14 floor with an amazing view. My room was neat, clean and had the brightest white linen and fluffiest duvet ever. The electricity in the room was ran by an I-pad ; turn off TV, lights etc. The lights could be changed to a spectrum of colors which created extra ambiance for the quaint size room. The room had a refrigerator, but no microwave. Cleaning services were available daily if wanted. The body washes smelled luxurious . They had one for the AM, and one for the PM. They were so nice, I had to inquire about purchase. Also, the bottom floor, there was a cafe in which you could eat meals at. My hubby and I only ate breakfast there and there was unlimited coffee with the breakfast until a certain top. The roof top bar was cool. The view was absolutely stunning. The drinks at the bar were ok. Inside the stairwells were art by many local artist, so to see it all you had to start at the top floor and walk all the way down to the bottom. If you like art, especially urban and graffiti style, you would appreciate seeing it. This is a very cool hotel, with professional and courteous staff. I will return. Oh and btw, the rooms are sound proof. What a plus!!!!!! Moreover, the location is really great because Soho, Chinatown, Little Italy are all within walking distance. It's a perfect little spot.

We stayed here mainly due to the location as there is just so much to do and eat in this area. We knew the rooms would be small but this is an amazing design to make maximum use of space. We had a high floor room with an amazing skyline view which I would highly recommend paying extra for. There was hardly any traffic noise too which is almost impossible to find in such a busy place! We used the roof top bar which had great views over Manhattan and lovely seating areas to enjoy an aperitif. The staff were friendly, everything was so smooth and easy right from the moment we arrived. Would stay here again in a heartbeat. Thank you CitizenM!

i've just returned from a great stay in New York at the CitizenM Bowery.
The hotel is in a great location for people that have visited New York before and want to get away from times square/midtown. the J train bowery station is steps away from the hotel which is convenient for for getting the airtain/subway to and from JFK, many other subway lines are a short walk away too.
The rooms are small but perfectly laid out to give you everything you need and the tech works well.
It was my birthday while i was here and the hotel went above and beyond to work with my wife to surprise me including balloons cake and a gift.
Check-in and Check-Out are super easy and i opted for a late check out which is until 6pm, this was a great option as i had a late return flight.
My room was on the 11th floor facing west which gave a fantastic view of the freedom tower from my bed which was a joy to wake up and fall asleep to.
i didnt have breakfast or anything from the canteen but did go to the rooftop bar which offers great views and even dim sum from the nearby Nom Wah.
Overall a fantastic stay and CitizenM will be at the top of my list for future trips.
