The DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel San Diego - Hotel Circle garners mixed reviews, with some guests appreciating its location near attractions, while others criticize its placement. Many guests feel the hotel falls short in providing value, pointing to pricey extras and dated features. The amenities offer a mix of family-friendly options and a pool, yet suffer from maintenance woes. Room conditions are inconsistent, with space being a plus but odors and decor needing improvement. Opinions on the atmosphere and service are varied, with commendable staff at times but an overall need for modernization. Cleanliness is generally good, though some areas require attention.

My family and I stayed here this past thanksgiving weekend for two days and upon arrival the hotel looked clean and staff pleasant, however our first night there the heater needed to be serviced, the sink in bathroom drained very slowly and the tv went out. My husband called the front desk and was told they would send someone to service it however because of covid 19 we could not be in the room while the service man was there. My family and I left for two hours taking our valuables with us however when we returned to our room we found that the person who was sent to service the tv had left their dirty nasty mask on the floor went through all our suitcases taking all my husbands cologne. We reported it to the front desk in which they apologized and said they wished they could give us a discount but because we already paid online there was nothing that they could do. I was shocked to see something like this happening at a four star hotel. If you decide to stay here be careful cause someone there has sticky fingers.

Staff was very friendly and helpful during our stay. The biggest downfall to the room was the faint smell of cigarette smoke, as well as the too soft pillows that just deflated when you laid on them. There is a shortage of outlets in the room and the ones that are there are a little inconvenient. The rooms all have balconies which is nice for fresh air, and the refrigerator in the room works very well, it would be nice to have a microwave to reheat food. The room was very clean, and the water in the shower was hot and had great water pressure. The market amenities were a bit under stocked, but they’ll do in a pinch. The pool was nicely heated and a great place to relax a bit with a nice picnic area to eat and have friends or family visit.

Stayed the first week in January while attending a youth sports tournament in the area. I had read reviews prior to the stay and was skeptical. My room was on the 8th floor and I did not have any issues with the elevator or cleanliness. Tub was a little slow to drain, but removed the stopper and problem solved. I did think the cost for breakfast was a little pricey; however it was good and had a variety of items. I would consider staying here again.

Awesome staff and great pool. For sure family friendly. One thing is this hotel is ready for an update all around. The hallways and rooms are smelly but it’s all carpet. The bed linens had stains and I asked for trash service which we got then I saw her set it in the front of the elevator and let someone else deal with it. I could have done that myself.

Stayed here with family on a trip to San Diego. The outside is beautiful - the pool, the firepit, the trailer and picnic tables. The rooms are very dated and very much in need of maintenence. Cabinets are scratched in the bathroom; the cabinet door hiding the refrigerator hanging almost off the hinges; mildew on the shower curtain; unnamed substance (blood? jam? pizza sauce?) on the bedskirts in both bedrooms. Very fancily dressed single women roaming the bar and hallways in the late evening/night. No housekeeping services. The breakfast buffet is actually good but rather limited (the only cereal was oatmeal, no cold cereal), the fresh fruit was only melons, the bacon was way over salty, and the price was rather steep.
Daughters room ready when we arrived but not ours. Ok, we are early. So we hung out in her room. About 2 PM we heard housekeeping go into our room and we could hear them cleaning it. And we heard them leave. So we waited about 30 - 45 minutes and husband called down and asked if he could get an update as to when our room might be ready. And he was told it was not yet ready. He replied, ok, we heard housekeeping in there, we heard them cleaning, and we heard them leave about 30 minutes ago so we were hoping to get an update. And the answer he recieved was "you know we dont have to provide you a room until after 4 PM as that is our check in time".
At 4:15 I walked down to the desk and the room was ready....
The parking garage is small and the turns to go from level to level are very tight.

The hotel did not live up to brand expectations. It was "clean" , but smelled like mildew on our floor. Room felt "old" and was dingey. Shower/tub had chipped paint and was stained. We would have changed hotels if we hadn't booked a prepaid rate. The pillows were awful and the headboard hung on the wall rattled when pillows were adjusted and when our neighbors opened/shut their door. The $18 breakfast "buffet" was the same as what other hotels offer for free as "continental plus". We walked out and went down the road for an excellent breakfast. The staff however , was very nice and helpful.

The property is a little older, it can use some updating but that’s OK. When we got to the room I felt that it needed a little more cleaning, I didn’t press the issue because I knew we were only there one day and I always carry Clorox wipes so I wiped down the bathroom. A couple of the towels had small yellowish stains on them, no biggie just used the ones that did not. However, on the day we were to check out I washed my hair and grabbed the last towel to dry my hair and it was DISGUSTING. It had a lot of what appeared to be dry blood. Oh my gosh I was done and glad we were checking out. When I brought it up to the front desk staff they were like “oh wow not l cool we’ll bring it up to the housekeeping manager” For some reason I was expecting more, I don’t know maybe some dramatics (I wanted them to be as disgusted as I was lol) maybe some Hilton Honors points since I’m a member and you want me to come back. Now I feel like I should bring my own towels and sheet covers because obviously cleaning is not their top priority. The parking structure is a tight squeeze. I guess there’s not much they can do about it, but if you have an SUV forget about it. Also, I feel like parking should be free at this property. Last, does DoubleTree still provide chocolate chip cookies? We surely didn’t get any.

We needed a hotel for a short stay prior to embarkation to a cruise from the San Diego waterfront. This hotel is located very near the SD airport and just a 10 to 15 minute drive or rideshare. Firstly, they charge $28/night for parking and follow most of the large hotels in this area that do the same. There are a few street stalls outside but parking a rental in the dark street with risk of a break in was not something I was wanting to deal with. Since we arrived late in the evening, we were able to check in and get our key quickly.
Each room has a balcony but no furniture to sit outside. The room size was little larger than average with high ceilings. We had a room with an adjoining door and enjoyed the first 3 nights of pure bliss quiet but quickly realized there was no guest next door. On night 4, a family with a child checked in and we were made aware by a howling sound he made which penetrated the adjoining door easily. The bed quality was average and room was clean. There is a large display TV, room safe and coffee maker in the room. WiFi is also complimentary during your stay. This hotel does not offer any complimentary coffee or breakfast as others in the area do. They only have the Doubletree warm chocolate chip cookies upon request. The hotel is right along the major freeway so at night the traffic is light but as the morning comes, the loud noise from the cars, trucks and motorcycle gets very loud even with the sliding doors closed. The reception staff was random and there could be a very friendly person at one shift and another that would not even acknowledge you. This hotel is probably good for a quick stay but if we were there for a longer period, I will go back to other hotels which have been much more pleasant to stay at.

This is not the best Double Tree - it's a tired Double Tree, but located in a desirable area, and priced competitively against other facilities. We were surprised at the front desk to learn parking is $24/night. There is NO STREET parking near this facility, so no options. My son was unable to visit us at the hotel - NO PARKING for visitors.
Our room was clean, but the public areas of the hotel need deep cleaning, painting and a refresh. Housekeeping did not arrive until 4:30 in the afternoon.

I can usually give a pass to hotels, as I worked in the industry and recognize it is a delicate balance to run a hotel and please guests.
This time though… I’d avoid. Truly there are other comparably price items in San Diego, and you don’t need to bother with this one.
The only reason that It got two stars from me was the staff- they were very kind and doing their best under the circumstances.
The lobby is fine, but know that they are under new ownership (hopefully this will help) and they aren’t serving alcohol in the hotel. The breakfast buffet was ok, I guess but not a good value unless you are a Hilton Diamond and it’s free.
The rooms… yikes. At first glance are fine, but if you look any closer, it appears maintenance is non existent in the hotel. Broken outlets, crushed lamp shades, questionably clean sheets, odd dark spots on the bathroom floor… not good. When I pulled back my sheets the first night, I found a daddy long legs crawling in the bed. Fine he won’t hurt me, but gross, no?
Also the jacuzzi was broken the whole time we were there and the pool deck looks like it hasn’t been painted since the 60s.
Also there are some meeting rooms in the basement that are depressing. The stairs are very uneven walking down and it looks like it’s the back of house down there. Not great.
San Diego is a great hotel city, its just not this one.
