Daughters room ready when we arrived but not ours. Ok, we are early. So we hung out in her room. About 2 PM we heard housekeeping go into our room and we could hear them cleaning it. And we heard them leave. So we waited about 30 - 45 minutes and husband called down and asked if he could get an update as to when our room might be ready. And he was told it was not yet ready. He replied, ok, we heard housekeeping in there, we heard them cleaning, and we heard them leave about 30 minutes ago so we were hoping to get an update. And the answer he recieved was "you know we dont have to provide you a room until after 4 PM as that is our check in time".
At 4:15 I walked down to the desk and the room was ready....
The parking garage is small and the turns to go from level to level are very tight.
Each room has a balcony but no furniture to sit outside. The room size was little larger than average with high ceilings. We had a room with an adjoining door and enjoyed the first 3 nights of pure bliss quiet but quickly realized there was no guest next door. On night 4, a family with a child checked in and we were made aware by a howling sound he made which penetrated the adjoining door easily. The bed quality was average and room was clean. There is a large display TV, room safe and coffee maker in the room. WiFi is also complimentary during your stay. This hotel does not offer any complimentary coffee or breakfast as others in the area do. They only have the Doubletree warm chocolate chip cookies upon request. The hotel is right along the major freeway so at night the traffic is light but as the morning comes, the loud noise from the cars, trucks and motorcycle gets very loud even with the sliding doors closed. The reception staff was random and there could be a very friendly person at one shift and another that would not even acknowledge you. This hotel is probably good for a quick stay but if we were there for a longer period, I will go back to other hotels which have been much more pleasant to stay at.
Our room was clean, but the public areas of the hotel need deep cleaning, painting and a refresh. Housekeeping did not arrive until 4:30 in the afternoon.
This time though… I’d avoid. Truly there are other comparably price items in San Diego, and you don’t need to bother with this one.
The only reason that It got two stars from me was the staff- they were very kind and doing their best under the circumstances.
The lobby is fine, but know that they are under new ownership (hopefully this will help) and they aren’t serving alcohol in the hotel. The breakfast buffet was ok, I guess but not a good value unless you are a Hilton Diamond and it’s free.
The rooms… yikes. At first glance are fine, but if you look any closer, it appears maintenance is non existent in the hotel. Broken outlets, crushed lamp shades, questionably clean sheets, odd dark spots on the bathroom floor… not good. When I pulled back my sheets the first night, I found a daddy long legs crawling in the bed. Fine he won’t hurt me, but gross, no?
Also the jacuzzi was broken the whole time we were there and the pool deck looks like it hasn’t been painted since the 60s.
Also there are some meeting rooms in the basement that are depressing. The stairs are very uneven walking down and it looks like it’s the back of house down there. Not great.
San Diego is a great hotel city, its just not this one.
"Avoid at all cost. You would be better off at a motel for the price. Really taken in what other customers are saying."Read full review
