Detailed Reviews
The location was wonderful... Right in town & walking distance to shops & restaurants. It was clean enough, considering lots of sand gets brought in, but good to come back to after a day of hiking. Only complaint was that the trash cans for the units were right outside our place & were overflowing by Thursday morning, right after we arrived. We called about it & Sally said that trash comes on Tuesdays & offered no solution. Sitting outside was not an option due to the odor. Other than that, it met our needs.

The Kokopelli Lodge is located in the center of Moab - but off the main road in a quiet side street. The location is superb. The owner is new, down to earth and very, very helpful & friendly. He is keen and enthusiastic to improve the place which has its own simple character.
If you like hearty food then a must-do is to have breakfast in the Moab Diner (all the locals seem to - it was always busy....) try a steak and pitcher of homebrew beer at Eddie Mcstiff and checkout the locals in Woodys pub/bar/pool hall (a bit redneck but they were really friendly to my wife and I). These are all fantastic 'genuine' places - the real moab & all really close to the Kokopelli.
I would definitely stay at the Kokopelli again - its a place that fits in to the personality of Moab ....
PS: The obvious places to visit are Canyonlands and Arches - but also consider taking a drive/bike ride by the Colarado Scenic Highway 128 Just North of Moab before the river. The scenery in these parts is absolutely stunning, a vast sureal landscape well worth a visit.

We stayed a night at their lodge and the location is excellent - very near to the main street. We parked our car just right in front of our room. We had a room with 1 queen bed, small room but well-equipped with A/C, microwave, fridge, TV, free wifi - all we needed. We liked the funky colours and stylish decor in the room which had surely brightened up our day. The staff at the frontdesk were very friendly and helpful. For the good price and quality of stay, we will stay here again when visiting Moab next time.

Response from moabinnkeeper, Owner at Kokopelli Lodgings
Responded Oct 31, 2014
Thank you so much for the kind words! Our staff is truly concerned with the happiness of our guests, and it is always a great boost for them to hear that they got it right! I'm glad you appreciate our slight "quirky-ness" and the value of the Kokopelli Lodge. We look forward to your next visit!

The pictures shown for 72 S 100 E are NOT what you'll find at that address. We stayed at 72 S 100 E, and I've attached a picture of the building - it's an 8-room OLD motel. We stayed at the end unit #8. The shower tiles were black with mildew/dirt; after walking on the unit's floors for 10 minutes, our feet turned brown from the dirt; the sheets looked like they hadn't been changed; the wall paint was chipped in several places; there was dust on all the furniture; the driveway/parking area was potholed and weedy. Complaining to Arches Vacation Rentals, the property manager, did no good; they expressed no concern, nor did they offer a refund. Price was outrageous for what it was.

Lumpy mattress. Storage and dumpsters outside door. Dirty toilet mildew and stains on bathroom ceiling
It was not a pleasant place to stay. We ate dinner outside twice and the grounds were so dumpy we went else where
Much better places to stay in Moab

Booked through priceline after I booked a 80 cleaning fee was added without being told. Beware they hide the fees. I don't know who to blame priceline or this joint. Wouldn't have minded so much if I had been aware of the charged. I don't like being deceived.

Dirty and run down. Bedspread was torn. Bathroom extra gross. Stained bathroom floor, walls have holes, maybe water damage. Mold, mildew and shower with no pressure at all in shower. No one to complain to, very convenient as they must have lots of complaints. I emailed Arches once home and no refund. Said they would notify housekeeping and maintenance. These are long term issues that have been happening for years. Yet they have no problem charging nearly $200/night.

Pros- The location was convenient to walk to restaurants and a few mins drive to Arches NP entrance. And it was a budget stay. Cons- It wasn’t clean. First the doors didn’t seal so dirt can blow in, making the floors appear dirty. There was hair in the bedding (not ours). But the big thing for me, was the towels. They smelled sour, if you used them to dry off, you could smell it all day.

I stayed at one of the Kokopelli Suites at the end of May 2012.
The Suites are a small set apartments on a side street, some blocks away from the motel.
When I arrived at 8:30 pm I found the office closed at 8 pm. I never heard of a motel closing at 8 pm in the summer. Anyway, I located the Suites using the map they had left.
I am not a demanding visitor, just the basic comforts. The days are spent outside and all that is needed is a quiet place to rest and the ability to make meals. I think of Suites as something modern, or at least better than a motel room. Typically can be quieter, and have a kitchen.
While these “suites” were in a quiet area and have a small kitchen, that’s about it.
It is really run down. The online description and pictures were deceptive. It's not a suite, it's an old, small block apartment, and it looks unchanged for many years.
There is no air conditioner, it's a swamp cooler. It is very loud, and the vents are covered with mold.
The old thermostat is broken, you can't set a temperature, which means one has to get up and turn it on or off. Their instructions for the swamp cooler are to leave a window or door open for it to work. For the bedroom, this means leaving the sliding back door open. I can't imagine people being comfortable sleeping with the bedroom door open to the outside. The latch on the bedroom sliding door is worn out, but with effort can be closed and locked. This is not something one should have to point out to the owner or manager.
It seems there used to be a bathroom door, but they put in a hanging door over the opening. This means the bathroom just has something that you slide in front of the opening. It’s the first place I have seen which just didn’t fix the door but instead just decided to go cheap and use a cover instead.
The place is strangely uncomfortable. In the living room it's an old love seat, a small chair, and a TV stand on the other end. There is lack of places to simply put stuff, except on the floor of the living room. There is a lack of lights - the TV is on the switch for the living room light. The TV only gets some of the channels listed.
The kitchen is small. It comes with most cooking utensils, a range, microwave, toaster, refrigerator, etc. The provided utensils, cups, plates, dishes are camping grade. There is a counter at the kitchen with a couple of seats, there is no dining area. They do not provide paper towels or napkins.
They expect you clean up all the dishes and take out the trash. Doing the dishes seems reasonable. But taking out the trash? What place requires the visitor to do that? And there are all these rules about things or they will charge you. They charged me an extra $10 after I left because I didn't come into the office (open from 9 am to noon and 3 pm to 8 pm as mentioned before). I never heard of having an extra charge for having to go into the office, especially after booking and paying online.
I stayed in other places during the vacation, but this Kokopelli Suites sticks in my mind as a very bad. It wasn't as advertised, it was unsafe, it was run down, and overpriced. But I stayed because I did not have the time to pick up and search for something else.
When I was looking at motels in Moab, most were around the price of this place, but I think I would have been a lot happier somewhere else.
I would never go back, and recommend to fellow Moab travellers to not even consider the Kokopelli “Suites”.

We were a family looking for a budget-friendly place in Moab for two nights. We ended up at the "Suites" property, which is different from the "Lodge" or the "In-Towner" properties. The Suites are a strip of four converted apartments located about four blocks from the main highway in a quiet residential neighborhood. Ours was a two-bedroom, two-bath arrangement with a kitchen/dining/living area. These were housekeeping suites -- no daily maid service without an extra charge. Kitchen had dishes, stove/oven, microwave, fridge. The walls and decor were colorful. Generally clean.
The only negative was the state of upkeep. The carpet was starting to pull out of the tacking in the middle of the floor. The screen door off the back bedroom was falling of the track. The sliding door to the 2nd bathroom was supposed to be a pocket door, but was installed on the outside of the wall, allowing it to easily flop open. Some of the trim work was just bare, unpainted wood. Back yard looked kind of disheveled.
But, this place cost us about half of what some of the other hotels in town were running. And we liked having the two separate bedrooms and the kitchen. So we were willing to put up with the state of upkeep. If you are looking for a bargain that is serviceable but not fancy, this could be a good deal for you.

Response from travelgirl028, Owner at Kokopelli Lodgings
Responded Jun 16, 2012
Thanks for the input and suggestions. All your issues have been addressed with the exception of the second bathroom door - it was never a pocket door, but a regular door that swung inward to create a very tight space getting into the bathroom. To make access better, we created a "barn door" situation that is becoming more popular in modern building and serves the same purpose as a pocket door. The back yard is getting an overhaul and new photos will be on the website soon.

I'm afraid we sold the golf condo a couple years ago. Several other great options though. Give us a call!
Do you supply coffee in the rooms. I know there is a coffee maker, but do you supply coffee packets.
We had coffee in our room.
There are several places to go that are per friendly. You would have to call the lodge and find out their policy. But I'm sure it will be fine. Awesome place to visit.
Hi Kathy-
Yes, we are extremely pet friendly and that includes cats! This has been the year of the traveling cat and we have had at least a dozen happy cat guests at the Kokopelli. Please email us directly through our website of you have further questions. Hope to see you soon!
