We loved our stay at Kuleana and would go back again. We hope that maybe next time we would be able to get another location though. We stayed in 511 and the traffic noise in the bedroom at night and early mornings is very loud. It sounds as though the road is right there. We did also sleep with our windows open which didn't help for noise, but did help for airflow. We loved the view from the lanai and were able to see the whales from there. You can also hear the sound of the ocean from the front of the condo. Putting down the murphy bed was a bit of a mission every day, as you have to move the glass top table with all the chairs to put it down. Once the bed was down, because of the only space available for the table, you could no longer access the stove or fridge. A sleeper sofa would have made more sense as you would not have to reconfigure the whole living area every morning and night. The condo was clean. A rip in the shower curtain, but otherwise it was nicely appointed. Could not reach the pots in the cupboard above the fridge, so had to ask for help for that every time. We asked for beach towels from reception and were able to get a set for the entire time we were there. No beach chairs, umbrellas available, can rent from a store down the road. Beautiful view of the ocean from the lawn at the front. Nice BBQ's. No access to a swimming beach from there, had to travel to beaches. Nice heated pool. Staff polite even when reminding you to wear your masks. All in all I would return here for a holiday again,

If you want a quiet getaway without all the hustle and bustle of a packed hotel (like at Kaanapli), this is the place for you. It is a quiet place right by the beach. Our room faced the ocean and was just a quick hop to the private beach. Spectacular view with turtles close by. Our room (404) was a bit dated, but it was fine. We had a one-bedroom and our kids slept in the murphy bed. Very convenient to have a room with stove & fridge. You can't beat the location. It's north of Kaanapali and south of Kahana Beach.
Service is minimal, if any, but maybe because of Covid. You are pretty much left on your own...which is fine if you are not looking for 5-star service and want to be left alone. We rarely saw any staff, not even to check-in (key was left in a lockbox), and when we checked out, we just simply told the cleaning staff.
I would stay here simply because the location is amazing.

We stayed here the week after Christmas. My in laws rented five condos for our family, we had small kids under five, but we are a very nice, respectful family so we were shocked by how we were treated.

Let me start with positives: the condo we were in (201) was very clean and lots of room for two couples and one toddler. It was definitely the most updated condo out of the 5, the view is amazing, sunsets were incredible, sea turtles on the beach each evening, some surfing and swimming right off shore, pool was clean and refreshing.

Negatives: we did not feel welcome by the other owners who live at this resort and the security guard seemed out to get us. The first night we gathered on the grass near the BBQs with some pizzas and the security guard said we needed a permit to gather with the whole family - the next day my mother in law went to the office to obtain a permit and they had never heard of that rule or the permit he told us we needed. One night four of us were playing cards on our private balcony and the security guard came to our door and told us we had to go inside..... we explained that we had a sleeping child inside and were not being loud, he said he didn’t care. He went to each of our families condos and kicked them all off their balconies at exactly 10pm. I would understand if we had music or alcohol or were being obnoxious but we were not. It seemed ridiculous to not let us use a part of our condo that we paid for. One of the older owners who lived there chewed out my father in law at the pool. Other downsides, Beach was tiny, definitely have to drive anywhere you want to go, not walkable, HUGE cockroaches (we saw 2 in our unit, my sister in law next door counted 5-6).

This place would be great if you are an older couple, but I guess even my Oma would get in trouble here playing cards on the balcony. We would not stay here again.

Beautiful grounds not really a beach area, Seen a lot of Turtles out front of the resort. Be careful getting in the water though lots of rocks. Was warm in the rooms even with fans going. You can pay 10 a night extra to air conditioning in your room I did not use this service.

This is such a lovely property, There are 2 private beaches to snorkel with the turtles and an area to wash the sand off before you come back up from the beach. A nice pool. Tennis Courts, but there was so much else to do.
Gas BBQs set up facing the ocean to grill your dinner, the kitchens are fully equipped with plates, utensils, glasses, refrigerator, oven, microwave, coffee pots.
We went once and had so much Fun, we came back the next year and rented 3 condos one for us, our Mother, Brother and his wife and one for our Best Friends. We had the trip of a life time! We'd sit out and watch the most beautiful, un-obstructed views of the sun setting. It is quiet, but close enough to Lahaina it takes 5 minutes to town. The Luau buses stop right in front of Kuleana if you've booked a Luau so you don't have to drive and can just enjoy yourselves.

Stayed in 418. Kuleana was built in 1972 and has been so well maintained that 50 years later it is still a nice, but increasingly expensive option. We paid, during a 2 week stay adding in the numerous fees around $500/night. (A few years ago the cost was less than half that). It is a small one bedroom/living room combined with kitchen/1 bathroom unit. Our unit was on the 3rd floor (an easy walk up) and had a wonderful view of the water and whales that surfaced off shore. An end unit it also has a side window overlooking the next door unit’s roof top solar array associated wiring and collected water from the rains—not a great view but it does make the unit brighter. The unit itself was probably last redecorated over 10 years ago and need freshening up (a paint job, new furniture and maybe new cabinets). The appliances are modern. It’s cramped but it is in paradise and the Kuleana appears relatively well managed.

Kuleana is located north of the Kaanapali area a 10-15 minute walk to the “farmer’s market” natural food store to the south and the small shopping area near Hoohoi Road to the north. A Time supermarket and a food truck park is about 1.8 miles from the condo. The entrance to the parking near the Kaanapali “board” walk is in that same area. You really need a car.

We had a nice time but are not planning to return.

The location of this unit is prime. The balcony overlooks the ocean and the turtle sanctuary- you are so close you’ll need to close the balcony door to be able to hear the TV! Lanai is a wonderful place to sit, enjoy the view and see whales. When we arrived there was a small beach and easy ocean access for swimming and snorkeling. A storm came up one night and unfortunately the sand washed away leaving no beach and a difficult water access. The room is on the small side with little counter space. Pots are stored in the oven. Bathroom is fairly large and new. Unit could use a vacuum and mop, and cleaning supplies so you can tidy up during your stay. When we arrived 2/6 pillows were clean, others were very stained with yellow stuff and blood. Floor was not washed and there was lots of food under the stove. Every night ants would come out from under the stove. Screen door is difficult to close without a loud sound, yet there is a rule to not slam the door. Parking is very tight and you will get a notice if your tires touch the lines! Grounds are beautiful, BBQ area is lovely and ocean front. Destination Maui desk person got us new pillows, a broom and chairs for the unit. We paid for an extra night, but had to move units on our last day. We were given the wrong door code and couldn’t get ahold of anyone as it was Sunday. We could only reach Security, but he was unable to help. It cut into our last day and was quite stressful. We packed everything into our car so we weren’t charged for not vacating. Finally a maintenance man came and he had the correct code to our new unit. Obviously the codes don’t change - we wondered about the security of that! The new unit was 507 - this unit was older, furniture dirty, floor unwashed, funky smell in bathroom, walls needed painting. I would have been VERY disappointed if this was our room for an extended stay. Beautiful view once again.

No centralized air conditioning. The only AC is in the bedroom. You have to pay an extra $10 a day for the office to turn it on. There's a large stand-up electric fan that you can use in the living room/kitchen. The TV programming is terrible. There's a small strip of sandy beach which disappears during high tide, the rest are rocks. I won't come back, I'll find another resort.

We stayed a couple nights in unit 412. The unit was clean and comfortable for the two of us. I think it would have been a bit cramped if there were two couples but fine for a family of four, if needed. The beachfront view was enjoyable since there were large turtles sunning themselves on the beach in view of the deck. The location was good for a quiet, stress-free stay. It wouldn't be a good location if you're looking for nightlife in Lahaina and loud parties. Thankfully for us, the quietness was welcome after driving the road to Hana all day. The unit itself was no-frills and very basic but clean. (Though, the curtains were ripped but a note was included that they were in the process of being replace. Personally, I would have just taken them down.) The instructions on how to get to the unit and access the condo was a bit unclear and I had to ask for instructions the night before since it hadn't been provided yet. But, all in all, a good experience.

My family of 4 loved the Kuleana Resort. Was the building built in the late 60-70's? Yes. Units have A/C in the bedrooms and you use trade winds to circulate air through the condo. We honestly didn't find it uncomfortable in late June with temps in the upper 80's each day. The views and beach at the Kuleana were amazing! We loved the grounds as they were well kept and beautiful. The evening ceremony of lighting the tiki torches and blowing the conch shell at sunset were magical. If you are looking for upscale, fancy rooms this isn't the place for you. If you are looking for a comfortable place to put your head each night with a kitchen to make some meals and a beach that has soooo many turtles frequenting the area, this is your place. My family would return again! We can't stop talking about our days swimming with the turtles, sunsets on the beach, breakfasts on the lanai...I could go on and on. We also loved being able to walk down to the local Farmer's Market for fresh fruit during our stay.

Maui, Hawaii
Aloha, I was at Kuleana Resort recently on an all-day photo shoot. It is one of the most peaceful places I have been. Though the office staff was available and helpful and did see landscapers taking care of the beautiful grounds, I did not notice anyone policing the grounds for mask wearing. That said, Maui does have mask wearing rules and there is a high level of compliance. If someone refuses to wear a mask in a public area, that could be a problem anywhere on island. Hope you have a lovely stay at Kuleana Resort!

The beach is a rocky little pocket beach that looked like it holds its sand. Next door there is a nicer beach that is has a easy path to itthat was less rocky. Other resorts just up the street had lost thier beach.. We did snorkle at this reasort. Saw turtles and a bunch of fish.. there is rocky out crops along the shore with a little reef extending a couple hundred yards out. Napili and Napuali bays are 5 minuters up the road and had better fish, corals, and where better protected from the surf. We snorkeled almost every day.
