Nestled in the Methow Valley, Sun Mountain Lodge offers a tranquil retreat popular for winter sports and natural scenery. However, some guests have reported inconsistent housekeeping and room maintenance, which, along with slow service, has led to mixed reviews. While the spacious rooms and serene atmosphere are appreciated, several travelers have found the hotel's value diminished by high prices and extra fees for amenities. Additionally, the remote location comes with limited technological conveniences.

The lodge and property are rustic and whimsy. I gave the lodge direct feedback regarding our stay... service rendered vs. payment. Our room wasn't serviced during our 3 night stay and the front desk didn't seem too concerned about it when I approached them. Getting our own towels etc wasn't a big deal and at the same time, for the price per day, it was an expectation based on the outline of our reservation and promised services. The mountain bike trails are excellent, the bar is awesome and the staff employed at it were incredible. Shoutout to Kenna and Willow. The food is pretty pricey but the convenience of an onsite restaurant and bar were unsurpassed and not having to make the trek into town made the prices worth it. Views are incredible. Swimming pool and hot tub are both salt water and a must if you stay here. Be ready for very limited mobile reception. There is wi-fi while around and in the main lodge and the two adjacent buildings but not at the Patterson Lake Cabins or anywhere surrounding the property. There was a group of young men down from our room at Mt. Gardner who were quite loud until late in the night. There is never an easy answer for this but there were at least 6 of them staying in one room. We had massages as the spa. While the massages were amazing, the ambiance and lay out of the massage rooms felt a little..... weird. They appear to be old hotel rooms that have been half hearted converted into massage rooms. I probably wouldn't spend the $300 on it again. I think with small and thoughtful spa renovations, it would be an overall fantastic spa. Overall, we loved our trip away. There are just a few items that would make me stop to think before booking here again which is really disappointing because the location is unmatched and the vibe is great.

Our family loved staying at the Lodge's lake cabins! Our loft cabin was equipped with a complete full-size kitchen, spacious common areas and thoughtful attention to our comfort. Loved the AC and air filtration which was needed as smoke from a forest fire was blowing through. The dining room (while pricey) is actually a great value as the food is delicious, fresh and tastes home-made. The Activities staff are awesome and gave us tons of ideas/tips on how to make the most of this gorgeous location.

Once again, Sun Mountain came through with a completely awesome visit. We have been coming or years, and this was our first venture with Covid 19 constraints. Sun Mountain made everything seem safe and made picking up food so very easy. The staff in the ski shop was great, Ray and Bret are very capable instructors, and were so positive!

Pricing should reflect the overall lack of service provided at this upscale lodge. The website perception was that of deep sanitization, outstanding service and wonderful views. The one common theme that was outstanding, were the incredicble views. However, the rooms at Mt Robinson were awful! Dust accumulation on the chair and chair pads were visible. Upon taking a bath in the jetted tub, there were huge piles of actual dirt that came from the jets, to implicate it had not been cleaned or "santized" in a very long time and dust accumulation on the ledge adjacent to the tub. The lamps were non functional and some of the wiring to the lamps were either broken or not up to code. Furnishings were old and out dated. There was no fridge, which we thought was odd considering the to-go breakfast they served was cold and assumed we could re-heat the food but there was no microwave either. For the cost again, especially during Covid.. there should have atleast been a fridge or microwave. The dinner food was amazing but the breakfast was cold and bland & served in a mediocre cardboard box the smashed everything together. In addition, for the most part this community is most welcoming or catered to 55+ yr old guests. The neighboring guest called on our location two times to complain about the noise all before 9pm and the 55+ age guests at dinner the following evening complained about our voices over dinner. The experience was embarrasing and less than pleasant. If this area was meant for this age bracket, then perhaps you should advertise for this audience. As I am in the customer service industry myself, I would be incredibly ashamed for the lack of care and consideration the employees produce here. It would also be pertinent to indicate that, lack of leadership is a direct reflection of poor communication between employee to staff.

My daughter and I recently stayed at Sun Mountain Lodge for 2 nights. The lodge is situated at the top of a ridge with fantastic views. The lodge itself is impressive; the rooms are beautiful, the beds are comfortable. Due to Covid Phase 2 there was no daily maid service but the front desk was ready with replacement linens, coffee and other items. I would like to say that the problems we had were due to the Covid situation but I'm not sure that was the case. Breakfast was included in our pkg and we were required to make reservations the day before. Both times I called and made reservations for dine in (not take out) breakfast - left a message per request - and both times the reservation was not noted or made by staff. The first morning we were able to dine in as they had a vacancy and the service was excellent, food was good. The second time we checked in at the dining desk at the time we requested. The reservation was not entered into the system but it was written in a book (I assume where messages requesting reservations were noted). We were asked to wait while other diners were checked in and seated then we were told we could either wait another 45 minutes for dine in or have take out in 15 min. Since we were leaving that morning we opted for the take out. I posted a photo below of our biscuits and gravy take out. It was dumped in a box, placed in a paper bag and left on the table for us to pick up. The night before we had a takeout sandwich, fries and salad. The sandwich was put in the box (not wrapped) and it looked like a handful of fries had just been thrown in on top of it. The salad was very good and packaged separately. I couldn't help but make comparisons with our local Perkins restaurant whose employees packaged food separately (in high quality take out boxes) and was visually very appealing during their enforced closing and subsequent food truck service. I feel that the Sun Mountain Lodge, which is touted to be a high end resort, could have done a much better job in this area.

Sun Mountain Lodge was disappointing. While the views were stunning, the resort itself (if you can call it that) was nothing to write home about. It was very dated, from the shingled exterior, to the perpendicularly striped carpet tiles in the entry way, to the old furniture in the rooms.
The mattress was so uncomfortable we didn’t sleep a wink. The pillows were so lumpy they looked like they hadn’t been changed in 20 years. And no throw pillows? Kind of odd for a hotel.
We paid for a Mountain View room. Out one window was a view of a tree and an unkept pool, and out the other was the dirty roof with the mountains in the background. Mountains weren’t exactly the center point of attention. Can you really charge the price of a Mountain View room for that?
What really shocked me was the lack of amenities given the price of the room. I could maybe understand the lack of a tv to encourage guests to disconnect, but what else are you supposed to do at night during COVID in a sleepy town? Especially when the room is uninspiring at best? There’s so much opportunity for the business to be creative there! What about a food truck for the guests? Or a mulled wine/cider tent by some fire pits outside? I am so grateful to have brought a laptop to watch a movie on. There wasn’t even a mini fridge to store our food, or a microwave, or tea. How could you charge guests such a high price with so little to offer?
The food was good, although the take out presentation was quite poorly thought through. They placed our soup containers on top of our sautéed vegetables so that our vegetables ended up squished and our soup containers ended up dirty on the bottom so that we couldn’t even place them directly on our table. My fiancé pointed out that the cocktails were lazily poured. He was asked if he wanted his Old Fashioned on the rocks... (are they aware that’s not how that drink is meant to be served?) It was made with too much simple syrup and bottom shelf whisky.
The breakfast that was included was sub par, particularly because there were only two options - breakfast sandwich or oatmeal.
We left a day earlier than we intended to stay. Upon checking out, the woman at the front desk asked if there was a reason we were leaving early. I politely told her that the mattress simply wasn’t comfortable so we couldn’t get any sleep. Instead of offering us some incentive to stay through our reservation, she just apologized, and we were on our merry way. That’s no way to run a business. $250 wasted on a poor night’s sleep. Another $250 thrown away.
Will I come back to the lodge? No.
Will I recommend it to a friend? Absolutely not.
I’m sorry to say it. Thanks to the gorgeous drive and the stunning views to make the trip worthwhile.

Excellent location, beautiful views. Easy access to hiking, lake and Winthrop.Dining room food very mediocre last few years. No evidence of deep cleaning in rooms. Our room needed to be vacuumed, floors wiped down, along walls and under bed large dust accumulations. Activity center staff superb. Gift shop staff very kind. Reservations agent was great. Young man at Patterson Lake cottages office superb. We are returning but work on returning the Dining Room to its past glory and clean the rooms as advertised.

I visited Sun Mountain Lodge April 13-16, which seemed like a perfect time to visit! The weather was warm and sunny, and the wildflowers along the trails around the lodge were plentiful. The lodge was not busy at all, as we arrived after the winter sport season and before summer. Also, covid, right?

We dined in the restaurant one evening, and the limited menu was understandable because of adjustments due to covid; however, we decided to only eat in the restaurant one evening because the menu was so limited. I ordered probably the best old fashioned I've had in awhile!

Breakfast was included as part of my reservation, and the breakfasts were so delicious! Their takeout system is on point, and the staff were very friendly. I don't usually eat breakfast, but I definitely enjoyed it during my stay.

I booked a scrub and massage at the spa, which was wonderful. The scrub is a very nice pumice scrub, and it left my skin so smooth and refreshed. The massage was just what I needed.

The room, Mt. Robinson room, was beautiful. King bed, jacuzzi tub, and a balcony with a panoramic view of the mountains. When I entered the room, there was music playing, and it was so inviting. There was also a gas fireplace, which I used often. The room also has a fridge and coffee maker, and there are plenty of outlets to charge devices.

I booked through bookings.com but then noticed that Sun Mountain Lodge was offering a special, so I called them and rebooked directly through Sun Mountain Lodge. The reservations staff were so kind and accommodating and moved me to a top floor room, which I appreciated.

Every staff member I encountered was friendly and helpful. The grounds are amazing! Beautiful views and so many areas to walk in the hills with beautiful views of the mountains and the valley.
This was my first visit, but I plan to make it an annual trip during spring break. So rejuvenating!

Sun Mountain Lodge has excellent location with ski right from your room onto excellent well groomed ski trails, plus separate snow shoe trails. The road up to the lodge is well maintained, of moderate slope, well plowed and sanded, so ordinary cars prepared for winter driving are fine. It can be quite cold at times, which means great snow. Just bring warm gear for skiing.

Great location and facility - staff helpful. Just need some attention to details in rooms (clean windows, uncluttered furniture arrangement conducive for enjoying the incredible views) and food service (hot food hot and buffet care). For the price - attention to detail is critical.

Driving from Sun Mountain Lodge into Winthrop is about a 20 minute drive, then on to Washington Pass is probably another hour and a half if you don't stop to enjoy the scenery. They are starting to clear the snow on the pass which is about a 6 to 8 week process, so an opening in early May is possible.

So far as we know, the only place have TV is at the lodge on the tv room and at the Restaurant. Im a big TV person, but honestly you don need watch tv if you stay at sun mountain lodge, is lots of great beautiful views on any season to you can admire with a cup of wine or your favorite drink, in case the tv is for entertain your kids i suggest to bring your iPad or device with downloaded movies or tv show... enjoy Winthrop downtown.

With small children, you might consider renting the Patterson Lake cabins - lovely cottages on the lake below the Lodge but with still a part of the Lodge with all its privileges. We have stayed there several time with kids, with plenty of open space and lakefront fun like swimming and kayaking.
