Cacelia is helpful, knows everything about the area and will point you in the right direction. Her home is full of art in various media and the accommodations are varied, so if you want a room with 3 beds, it is easy to arrange with her. The rooms are clean and spacious. The living room and kitchen downstairs are where people gather for breakfast or to chat. It's near the beach too!

I have had the absolute pleasure of staying with Cacilia Honisch at her Bed and Breakfast in Tlell on more than one occasion, and look forward to returning when I have the opportunity. The building doesn't look like much from the outside, but inside the warmth is not just from the furnace.

For me the location is perfect - close enough to both Old Massett and Skidegate on Haida Gwaii (formally known as the Queen Charlotte Islands) that I can stay in one location and visit both communities.

The kitchen/dining area is friendly and welcoming as it should be in most homes with comfortable seating for breakfast, or just having a great cup of coffee and conversation with your hostess. Friends and neighbours drop in and guests are made to feel as part of the family when they do. Cacilia is an excellent cook, so plan on accepting her standing offer to stay for dinner at least one night, but let her know at breakfast time so she can prepare enough food.

There are number of bedrooms and I have slept in two different rooms. Both very comfortable and large, with en-suite bathrooms.

Marley is a big dog that seems to always be on the wrong side of the door, but is very friendly to everybody in the neighbourhood. If you have a pet dander allergy, unfortunately you will have to stay elsewhere as Cacilia also has a cat.

You can get internet, but not cell service. Not an unusual occurrence for Haida Gwaii where cell service can be dropped when the wind changes.

Overall, this Bed and Breakfast is HIGHLY recommended for anybody, whether you are on business or travelling for pleasure.

Spacious but a bit spartan (not that I mind that), rooms not as tidy as one expects. If it says Bed & Breakfast, I expect more than a smallish bowl of fruit + yoghurt from the manufacturers plastic container. If you do answer yes, when asked, does any one wish something else, you will receive toast and butter. Ask for jam, you'll receive that too. Should be on the table to begin with. Either drop the second 'B' or else make it lower case 'b' and explain.

In the strongest possible terms I discourage people from staying at this B&B.

There were petty annoyances. For example, my son and I were sitting reading in the common room when the landlady came in and asked us to leave so she could watch TV. The landlady did not have a separate part of the house; we constantly felt as though we were intruding. The breakfast was a small bowl of fruit (in the landlady’s kitchen where we did not feel comfortable). We were also handed a tub of plain yoghurt with instructions not to stir it.

The real problems began when the landlady began criticizing our parenting choices. We let our teenage children sleep in until 9 a.m. and she let us know that we should have roused them earlier. We then went out for the day, returning at about 6 p.m. to rest for a little before going out to dinner. In the end, our children decided to stay in (and have food brought back for them) while my wife and I went out for dinner. The landlady expressed the opinion that our children ought to accompany us. Immediately after my wife and I left, the landlady entered the room that my children were sharing. (They had retreated to the small room they were sharing, leaving the landlady enjoying a glass of wine in front of the big screen TV.) She began abusing them, telling them that they were disgusting and that our family was sickening. She yelled at the top of her lungs according to my children. My children felt so uncomfortable that they left, walking off into the twilight – unaware of how far away we were.

We returned to the B&B, to find our children and the landlady gone. I drove out and found our children walking along the country road, in bear country. My wife found the landlady on the beach. The landlady confirmed that she had entered the room and that she had expressed the opinion that our family is disgusting, pathetic, and sickening.

We immediately left and found alternative accommodation.

For the record, our family is not disgusting. We have two lovely children who, like all teenagers, can be a little moody and require a lot of sleep.

This B&B is quiet and there is a short walk down to a pleasant beach. But avoid it like the plague.

Very disappointed in this B&B. We were there for 4 nights and the thin mismatched towels were never changed or for that matter the bathroom was not attended to at all. The shower had a stack of old empty bottles laying in the corner with the bottom of the shower curtain dirty and dragging and when you tried to open or shut the curtain the rod kept falling down. Being an old log house there were spiders and webs galore. Even at the head of our beds which was very disconcerting to say the least. These could have been vacuumed up each day. There are 3 cats around one of which was walking around on the tables. I will say a very nice fruit bowl was made for us each day and there was cold cereal out and we were asked if we wanted toast or eggs on the third day. There is no top sheet on these FOAM beds and the 2 pillows supplied didn't equal even one pillow. Overall I don't recommend this place.

This was my first visit to Haida Gwaii and I loved staying at Cacilia's - her place almost feels like something out of a story book. Everything from the entrance marked by a tall tree path, to the unique decor set throughout the house, to the comfortable rooms - all of it will make want to stay a few extra days.

We had over 12 people in our group and took over each room at Cacilia's place. Here are a few thoughts on my stay:

Hostess
Cacilia herself is absolutely wonderful and an amazing cook! After staying only 2 short days, you leave feeling like you've known her for years. Her dog Marley may cozy up to you, but the cat will most likely run away at the sight of you.

Rooms
The bed was super comfortable and the room was clean. I stayed on the second floor, left hallway which has a shared bathroom - but the the rest of the rooms have their own private bathroom.

On the property
Just off to the side of Cacilia's is a beach which is a great place to take a walk or have a little campfire after dinner. We opted for the campfire and watched the sunset.

Overall, I really enjoyed Cacilia's and would definitely return!

About 20-30 minutes north of the ferry in Skidegate.
Was a last minute booking, and Cacilia was gracious and welcoming. The room was quiet and comfortable. Cacilia is very knowledgeable of what 'tourists' want to see. Great stories if you have time to sit and listen
The breakfast and the company was top notch. Metres from the beach!!
Would highly recommend!

We have now stayed at Cacilia's B&B twice - in 2011 and 2019. Cacilia is a fine host - a very interesting and generous person (she picked us up at the airport and drove us back to the ferry on the day we left). Her house is very comfortable, full of light, wood, interesting local art and artefacts, and spacious. Walk out of the house and you are on the beach in about 2 minutes - what's not to like about that? We look forward to or next visit to cacilia's and to the inspiring and enriching environment of Haida Gwaii.

We arrived at 3pm, wrong, wrong, wrong. It was Cacilia's rest time. Better to arrive after 5pm, unload the suitcase and plan to go out for dinner. A refreshed Cacilia greets the guests at 8 am (not 7am!) with a very good breakfast and tidbits on what's happening in Tlell today. For us it was fantastic to learn that there were 10th anniversary festivities going on all day at the Haida Cultural Centre and Museum followed by a BBQ salmon dinner and an evening of Haida traditional dances. Thank you Cacilia.
The house is a large renovated pioneer house with a second floor addition, beachfront location, sunsets and sunrises galore! It is not a quaint suburban B 'N B. This lady has been greeting visitors to her home for a very long time. Come with a smile and enjoy the tranquility, you will not be disappointed.

Warm greating and just make yourself at home. Situated in Tlell mid way between Masset and QC. Big property to walk around and beach access path. Nothing overly close to walk too other than a few trails and the beach. Healthy breakfast of fruit and outmeal each day and toast or banana bread and coffee. Lots of area information from Cacilia for things to do. Firm beds with quilts.
