I was quite surprised to find that other guests had a poor experience because I was thrilled with every aspect of my stay.

As most of what I wish to share regards my benefits under the Bonvoy Rewards program, I'll list the general consumption details first.

This is a convenient location, not too far off I-95/Turnpike with ample shopping and dining options in the immediate vicinity by car. I suppose that, if the property were at capacity, parking MIGHT be an issue but I found the lot sizeable and had no issue.

I gladly would stay here again.

On the specific question of my elite benefits, if you have Bonvoy Platinum status or higher, I particularly recommend this locale. I am a Titanium and have found recognition of my status to vary widely in Marriott hotels around the USA. Not so here!

Within moments of checking in through the app, my suite upgrade posted, without attaching one of my credit card suite upgrade certificates. It was complimentary and most welcome. In fact, my suite was embarrassingly large (but that didn't stop me from enjoying it thoroughly).

Although I stayed just one night, my room was spotless when I arrived. I found the bathroom more than spacious and would have nothing but praise for the housekeeping staff, who were hard at work just before 8AM when I popped down to the lobby restaurant for breakfast.

It was, in fact, the breakfast which made me feel even more valued as a Bonvoy elite. My status entitled me to a coupon for whatever I wanted off the menu. It was delicious fare and a HUGE value for my Bonvoy status. The only other Marriott hotel I have visited which offered a similar breakfast value based on status was the Renaissance Atlanta Airport (the one right off the rental car train). I loved that breakfast, too, just loved it.

I recently stayed the weekend at this Sheraton in South Portland, with my son and his twin three year old boys--a weekend getaway. We thoroughly enjoyed our time: played in the well-maintained pool, ate dinner and breakfasts in the hotel restaurant. The service was consistently friendly, warm, welcoming, helpful. Food high quality. The room was perfect, the beds comfortable. When we left, the twins asked, "when are we coming back?"

When we arrived one of our night stands was falling over next to our bed. The 3 people at the front desk didn't see it necessary or important to change it out for us. Even though you couldn't place anything on it because it was falling over at an angle. My husband asked for a key to another room and he switched the night stand/lamp out with one that wasn't broken.

The shower glass was gross. I don't think the actual glass in the shower has been cleaned since probably covid. There was a hole in the wall next to the shower. Also, orange grime crud in the rails of the glass shower slider door.

The location is great, the rest of the hotel is beautiful and appeared clean. The restaurant on site was really good for breakfast.

We were supposed to stay 5 nights and relocated for the remaining 4 to a different hotel.

The manager did call us the next morning and explained about being short staffed ect...and was concerned. I just feel they need to check the rooms that will be checked into before the guests arrive if they are having issues with housekeeping. Maybe take one of the 3 people off the desk at 10pm to check on things?

Strongly don’t recommend staying here during the COVID-19 pandemic. Most high contact surfaces (door handles, business area computer keyboards and mice, doors, elevator buttons) aren’t cleaned more than once a day.
Upon arrival my in-room table was sticky and the seats were dirty.

The front desk won’t give guests complimentary bottled water like other Marriott. Like other Sheratons, the rooms are stocked with Starbucks coffee pods but this location only offers guests powdered creamer.

Worse, there are ridiculously high prices for items in the hotel store and no vending machines.

it would be smart to bring your own disinfectant spray and Clorox wipes to clean off your room’s door handles, toilet, and faucet because mine were all dirty.

When we first arrived, we checked into our first room and it clearly had not been cleaned properly. The bathroom tile had hairs all over it; the rug was covered in crumbs; and the white comfortable had obvious stains in multiple places. I called the front desk, and they were able to change our room - only to find out, the second room was even more unclean! The rug had more crumbs, there were weird stains on the bedframe and end table, and there was even a Band-Aid (or something?) wrapper on the ground. No way we were sleeping here! I was able to get a full refund, but for $500/night, you'd think this hotel would actually clean their rooms...especially in the midst of a global pandemic. Gross!

We really enjoyed staying at this hotel. I’m guessing it just recently had a renovation because everything seems so new and smelled new. Love the modern touches in the rooms. The room was modern but not cold feeling with all metal. Very updated everything looks like it had a bamboo look to it. However, I don’t think it’s a Destiination hotel or really a family hotel. It’s more for couples and business in our opinion. It was a lot less expensive than what we were expecting.
We only had petty complaints like not an extra blanket in the room and we booked for four adults but only a set of three towels. Nothing major. Beds were very comfortable just melted into them. Most Marriott properties I have say that are very comfortable.

Have you ever gotten to a hotel late, counting on a good nights sleep so you can get up early and function effectively the next day? That is the opposite of what happened to us here. We booked a room through Hotwire for one night on June 1, to catch a 6 am flight out of the Portland "Jetport." Among to promised amenities was a free airport shuttle. After a long, tiring drive, we dropped off our rental and called to find out where to catch the shuttle. We were told by the frond desk that the shuttle had been discontinued due to Covid. We were told they had a "special rate" with a local taxi service. I made a strategic error in calling an Uber instead of Hotwire. It was late, we had to get up at 4 am, and we didn't know any better. Later I found out that Hotwire would have put us in a different hotel, but it's hard to know how to play the game. When we got to the hotel, garbage was strewn about the lobby. The desk clerk gave us $10 to cover the Uber fare there, but nothing for the morning. He provided the card of the hotel general manager, who I emailed that night, but haven't heard back from him. When we called the taxi service with the special "deal" we were quoted $20 for a ride to the airport. We ended up getting another Uber for $8. More than the money, the stress of not being taken care of, really made the experience stressful and disappointing. I hate to think of how much PPP money the Marriott corporation and the hotel itself took only to treat people like this once travel comes back.

Jake G. was appallingly rude to me when I checked in. ignoring me as an invisible customer!
I was told ahead of time gold elite would receive a coupon for breakfast and then he reneged once I I checked in
There is also no room service.

Very disappointed and would not recommend this hotel or stay here again as I was greeted and treated so poorly.

My husband and I were going to Portland for our anniversary so I carefully researched a great hotel several months before our trip. We had a wonderful time driving up from Boston and visiting Kennebunkport. We pulled into the hotel at about 9:30pm and schlepped all of our bags into the front door. We were greeted by a front desk clerk who informed us that the hotel was oversold and that 5 people including us were chosen to be walked to another property. She said the reason we were selected was because we were not BONVOY member and that we booked out reservation through Hotwire.

I told her we ARE Bonvoy members but she said it was out fault we had not included this information in our reservation. (there is no place to enter that in the Hotwire app). I paid $300.00 for a 4.5 star hotel and they sent us next door to a 3 star Holiday inn which was adequate but not the same and not really anniversary-worth. I checked and that Holiday Inn ran about $90.00 per night.

The front desk clerk gave me the business card of the GM of the hotel and I have left a few messages to call me back. I don't think it's fair that they pocketed my $300.00 and gave me a $90.00 hotel. What a rip off scam.

So, since I am a travel agent I will make sure I tell anyone looking for a hotel in Portland Maine and looking for a Sheraton what happened to me and discourage them from booking these properties as this was a terrible experience.

I stayed at the Sable Oaks Sheraton for a conference. Upon entering my room, I was immediately unsure if the bed sheets had been changed. The bed looked rumpled and dubiously made up. I took pictures and showed them to the front desk clerk who assured me it was not up to their standards but that they were short staffed. Ok, then shut down a floor to ensure each open room is up to your standards. It's the hotel's reputation that is on the line. So, nothing was done. Later, I looked for the remote and couldn't locate it. I looked around on the floor and there it was - next to a giant hairball!! Disgusting. Other people's remotes were sanitized and in a plastic bag. - not mine. Once again, I showed a picture and was assured it would be looked into. Nothing changed. I slept clinging to the edge of the bed to avoid a suspicious spot that looked like blood under the sheet. The top sheet was on upside down with the tag at the top. Just nasty. Don't waste your money here.

Response from Ed Palmer, General Manager at Portland Sheraton at Sable Oaks
Responded May 30, 2022
517rosemariier, Thank you for your feedback on the disappointing stay you experienced recently. I can assure you this is far below our standards and truly not what you can expect from our property. We have thirty-five years of experience here at Sable Oaks under both the Marriott and Sheraton flags. We work extensively with our room attendants to try to be completely not only clean but also sanitized. I have reviewed your observations with our entire housekeeping staff to assure these were isolated issues. Please reach out to me on my email epalmer@sheratonsableoaks.com so that I may compensate you for your issues. Best regards, Ed Palmer general manager
