At this hotel you can hear everything from the rooms in the same floor and there is no cleaning during all your stay. The only nice thing is the common areas, rooms are very old. If you request to get your room cleaned during you stay they only have a few spots available per day.

The place has a cool vibe and the staff was really nice. The location is also great, close to the subway and mains interest attractions. I had two problems though, the first one was that the room was not clean, I found an used bandaid and there was someone else’s hair as well in the bathroom, dirty windows and closet, I asked it to be cleaned and it wasn’t during my whole stay. The other thing is that booking a room for myself and for the same price as other hotels I had hoped for more of a hotel infrastructure with daily cleaners, but I think I didn’t read that part carefully when booking. Other than that, I could hear water running all the time, it was annoying.

We booked the hotel because of its location in the city and the advertised amenities for mobile workspace as we’d have to login periodically on vacation.

The decor in the lobby was awesome but unfortunately that’s where it ended. The staff was friendly.

The rooms were in disrepair - no hot water for 2 days, water damage on the ceiling, lightbulbs missing, and duct tape in various places holding things together. Although the staff was friendly, there was a general lack of care and no on site leadership. The hotel pushes you to download an app for interface - none of the features work. The phone number is disconnected, and the chat feature is disabled.

Would not recommend staying at a Selina property given our experience here.

!st off I read the reviews on this hotel, and we were using Hotwire to book 2 rooms for 2 nights, so we took a chance, huge mistake, once you walk into the lobby it goes down hill for the start, very old and very outdated. there was no one to at the front desk to check us in, finally she shows up, zero personality, puts us on different floors, we requested same floor, but there were no other rooms available due to not being cleaned. Once in our rooms, it went down hill even more, you could hear water running non stop in the pipe system, and the fan on the AC made a loud noise, plus no lamp shade on bedside lamp, then we checked on our friend in the other room, even more issues with water running in the pipe system, bathtub not clean, cob webs around the light bulb in bathroom, just nasty, I went down to complain to the desk clerk who acted like she could care less. Said the engineer will be up to check it out, he shows up, nothing can be done, it is what it is.
We contacted Hotwire and told them everything that was going on, pictures & video's. Filed a request for full refund, which is now pending. We told hotwire to move us. which did in the end to a beautiful very nice Westin one block away, we had to paid for the rooms at the Westin, in hoping for a refund from Selina. When we told the desk clerk we were leaving, turned in the keys, and we said we can't stay here, her comment was, I would not stay here either! She had spoke to Hotwire and was waiting on approval from management. This place is a dump. This place is not the place you want to start your vacation or a visit to Chicago. You have been warned. do not book at this hotel. FYI. this was a hotwire hot rate were hotwire selects the hotel for you. The hotel is listed as a 3,5 star hotel on hotwire, its not even a 2 star.

OK , so my partner and I stayed at the Selina for a couple of days last week. Luckily we hadn’t seen the bad reviews before we went! It wasn’t what we were expecting but it wasn’t that bad. Definitely it has seen better days, it is now more of a hostel than a hotel. Several large public rooms including a bar and restaurant, are empty and not used. There is a "communal kitchen" on the second floor with a fridge ("label your articles") and a microwave but not much in the way of cooking equipment or plates and cutlery.
No provision of any kind of food or drink, no facilities to make hot drinks in the room. We were on the 14th floor. Our room was clean and the bathroom wasn’t top class, but perfectly acceptable. No aircon but the rotating fan in the room was quiet and kept us cool.
The location was excellent, just off the Magnificent Mile and we could see Bloomingdale’s from our window! Maybe we wouldn’t stay here again but it wasn’t the ordeal described in some reviews.

Staying at this hostel was a terrible experience because the information provided by the staff upon checking in were deceiving and false. My friend and I booked separately and got placed in two separate dorm rooms, and upon checking in we asked if we could be placed in the same room, but the staff member said that was not possible because other people reserved the beds and he couldn't place us together. The first night, I slept alone in the room, the three other beds were vacant for the whole night and nobody showed up. We confronted the staff with that and they said some people were late and didn't show up. The second night, I had two beds vacant in my room, and when asked the staff again they were making up excuses and dodged our question. I am not sure if they were lying to us or hiding something, they were just being weird about it.
Another terrible story that happened to my friend, who stayed in a separate room, was on the second night of our stay. At 4 am, a staff member barged into their room and started yelling and waking everybody up asking for their IDs. Turns out someone was drunk and checking in at 4 am and thought his bed was occupied by a random person, which was not true, the bed was empty. He told the staff member and her solution was to force her way into the room and start yelling to wake everybody up to make sure people are staying in their assigned rooms.
Overall, very bad experience with terrible and disrespectful communication and attitude from the staff. Absolutely do not recommend this place.

I had a few of my employees in Chicago (where I'm based) for a company retreat and the experience was going great until the last 2 days. The second to last day the hot water was completely out for an entire day. Also, I extended the trip by 2 days by stopping by the front desk and I was told that the final 2 days would be discounted by 30%. When my team checked out, that discount wasn't applied.

What a total dissapointment. Right now, we are waiting for some from the front desk to show up to collect our luggage from the storage room, as well as other guests too to be attended. Long wait, but no one at the front desk. We had no cleaning service for the 2 nights that we stayed, slippery bathtubs, so it´s no safe for elder guests and my room had a permanent water dripping sound from the air conditioning system. No nice smiles at the front desk. Never coming back.

Stayed at the Selina for a few days when going to Chicago for the Eagles football game. I have to admit that the bad reviews had me a bit concerned but I liked the location and could put up with a few negative issues.
OK, check in was a breeze and the front desk staff couldn't have been more cordial or helpful. Actually was able to check in a few minutes early as my room was ready. Front desk staff always spoke to the members of my group on the way in and out.
The room, small, and even by Chicago hotel standards it was small. It also had two single beds and a bunk bed. Missing, a television and a phone. Now I didn't actually book the room so I didn't have a basis to complain. Contrary to other reviews, the room was spotless as was the bathroom.
So what might I complain about....the heat or lack of it. The weekend was cold, with temperature in the high teens and low twenties. However, on Saturday night the heat stopped working. The fan blew plenty of cold air, and it made no difference where the temperature was set. While getting ready for the game it was 59 degrees in the room. I spoke to the front desk staff on the way out and was assured the heat would be working before we returned from the game. Now, I cranked the heat up to 78 hoping to get a little heat out of the system while getting ready for the game. When I returned after the game it was indeed 78 in my room.
OK, the hotel is older and could use a little TLC, but it was clean, centrally located, had friendly staff and was decently priced. Yes, I would book again, but not if I needed reliable heat or air conditioning.
