Cordero Lodge is located in a quiet picturesque bay behind Lorte Island on Cordero Channel. It is approximately 25 miles northwest of Campbell River NOT in the town as suggested by the trip advisor address and Bing map location. In fact the only connection with Campbell River is that it is a convenient location to get the scheduled Water Taxi service. The lodge is only accessible by boat or float plane.
One of the popular services from Campbell River is Way West Water Taxi phone 250 - 286 - 3050 that operates from pier D at the Campbell River Discovery Harbour Marina. Several companies offer float plane service including Kenmore Air from the San Juan Islands and Seattle.
Cordero Lodge was sold in the spring of 2013 by the original owners who had created it 30 years ago. The new owner and staff are extremely welcoming and treat you like family. The have plans to develop specialty features over the next few summers. I wish them well as they deserve to succeed.
The facilities are very attractive but basic with a lovely patio and restaurant with a view of the bay. There is a long linear dock capable of accommodating over 20 boats and it is protected by a log boom breakwater. There are several rooms available for rent adjacent to the restaurant. Fishing and boat tours are available.
The lodge offers complimentary internet wifi but it an extremely temperamental satellite link and at best will download email very slowly. There is cellphone service on the Telus network that provides clear reception.
Cordero Lodge is run like a family business the overall ambience is like being welcomed as a guest at a family lake side cottage rather than a commercial lodge.
The Marina offers fresh water only. There is no store and they do not sell ice or fuel. They do NOT have shore power on the dock, contrary to what is printed in the popular cruising guides! The owner told me that they have plans to install shore power on the docks in the winter of 2013. Boaters are advised to stock up at Blind Channel Resort situated 5 miles away before arriving. Blind Channel Resort is very similar to Cordero Lodge, but with more services, but for some unexplained reason TripAdvisor has advised me that “the facility does not meet their guidelines to be listed” and have declined my review.
The German themed restaurant was the central attraction under the previous owners. They offer a choice of three entrees Schnitzel, scallops and a special that changes daily all at a price of $30. They are presented in home style cooking and the food would be typical of that found in a BC coastal lumber camp.
Cordero Lodge offers an authentic Northern British Columbia in a beautiful peaceful setting. It is not for all tastes as the facilities are clean but basic. Above average if you are looking for the basics, average if you wish a bit of luxury.The ultimate luxury lodge in this area is Sonora Lodge - with prices to match, and my favorite Dent Island Lodge - see my TripAdvisor review.
