A very warm welcome upon our arrival on a very cold day added to our appreciation of the Evergreen Inn & Tavern. Although the oldest inn in Connecticut, it now has new owners (previously, the Curtis House). They graciously made every effort to ensure that we were comfortable and happy. If you are going to spend a few days antique hunting, it's best to get into character by staying at this grande dame of a place. It is truly special.

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 2 and Room 5. They were large, antiques (of course) and bright.

A lovely restaurant with a warm and welcoming staff. Our server Julia was terrific and despite the evening rush, never lost her wonderful sense of humor or her attentiveness. Cocktails were delicious as was every course. We enjoyed the pork special, which was among the best I have ever had, perfectly cooked, quality meat and properly seasoned.
With a great staff and wonderful menu who would not want to go back again and again.
Well worth the drive.

Really clean and cute rooms, good food, good pillows, can actually use the TVs. One thing to note is that there is no elevator but that kind of adds to the charm. Overall it’s a very pleasant place to stay and just very cute and very clean and nice.

Beware: I had lived in the Woodbury area for over 20 years and moved to Massachusetts recently. A few weeks ago a good friend invited myself and my youngest daughter to see a concert at the Palace in Waterbury and so I booked a room at the 1754 House. Unfortunately my daughter tested positive for Covid the day before we were to go and so my husband called the 1754 House and told them that we had been exposed to Covid(no test yet) and we would have to cancel (24 hour notice). After a few tries on the phone, they did cancel our room but still charged us the full price - so much for doing the right thing with these people! If I were a parent with a child at Westover, Taft, or the Gunn school I would think twice about booking or eating here. I wonder what the Covid policy is with employees?

Amazing experience but two huge issues. Let's start with the good. This place is quaint, charming and cozy! We arrived for our dinner and stay and were greeted by Scott at the front of the house. This man is a true gem! Found us a spot to sit and have drinks by the fire, offered to take a plcture of us and was so attentive the entire evening! Drinks were wonderful. We sat for dinner and let me say I can not recall a better meal! The filet was cooked perfectly and we also tried the burger which was stellar! The restaurant is perfect for an occasion or just a night out. The service was also top notch!
Now to the bad. Our room was quaint and cozy. No mini fridge which was dissapointing. But that we can live with. The bathroom a good size especially for an old home but the toilet is so close to the wall you can barely sit or stand and I am a very average sized person. My 6 foot 2 boyfriend was not able to even use it. The bed....terrible! So hard and uncomfortable. We got zero sleep. It saddens me because this place is amazing and we would love to return but those 2 things may make that impossible.

Our family came from around the US to celebrate a life. We had the carriage house to ourselves. The rooms were dated but clean. We really liked that the four bedrooms opened up to a common sitting area, with fire place, frig and coffee maker. The bath soap and shampoo quality was poor. I had to go buy my own. The continental breakfast had coffee, tea, instant oatmeal, some apples and granola type bars. This needs to be addressed and improved. To be fair, Everygreen has new owners and it is obvious that they have plans to improve the property. They also own a B &B downtown and from the outside, the property looks very nice. The owner was speaking with a contractor about the exterior of the inn and workers were replacing damaged wood on the exterior. Given some time, this property has great potential. I would like to return in a few years to see what improvements the new owners have made.

1754 House Inn & Restaurant is a super charming New England Inn. Their rooms are clean, comfortable, and decorated beautifully! The bed was also super comfortable, not too firm or too soft. While the inn rooms are fantastic, the stars of the show are the staff! Everyone is super nice, very helpful, and accommodating. The restaurant is also absolutely delicious and worth every penny. Everything about 1754 House is top notch!

Connecticut’s oldest inn is under new ownership. I very much hope that they succeed and that other guests do not share my reaction. The squash soup lacked character and was served by itself. The turkey was bland, thickly carved, industrial. (The flavor was better cold as a left-over.) The tiny portion of green beans ignored the rule that New England cuisine is based on variety of vegetables. The stuffing was dry at the edges yet the best part of the meal. The mashed potatoes were odd and the roll should not have been served. Cranberry sauce interesting but too sweet. Wine mediocre. The labor-saving apple crisp was a cop-out for Thanksgiving. The alternative was not Grandmother’s pumpkin pie but a bar of pumpkin and risotto suitable for a ski lodge, mislabeled tart”. No coffee. The price for the above was the highest I have ever paid in a restaurant. Though I am in mourning for Curtis House, you should give these people a try and see what you think.
