The Hotel Riu Palace Paradise Island is praised for its clean rooms and varied food options, with its beachside location earning positive remarks from numerous travelers. However, guests have called out the need for updates, particularly regarding the rooms and evening entertainment. While the pool atmosphere and entertainment are vibrant, the music often strikes a discordant note. Service experiences vary, with commendations for friendliness contrasting with reports of rudeness. Cleanliness generally meets expectations, though it's not without occasional lapses, and the value proposition has been questioned due to various service and maintenance issues.

Stayed at The Riu from Feb 23- 27, travelled with sunwing. We arrived late and were pleasantly surprised that a buffet had put out for the new arrivals, decent selection available for that time of night. We had requested a room with two beds since we were two friends travelling together, they said they were at 100% occupancy and couldn't accommodate us. We were given a king room on the 15th floor with a great ocean/beach view. Bad side - only one elevator goes to the 15th floor, and it seemed to be possessed, the button never stayed lit and repeatedly would make it halfway to the lobby then go back up, annoying. As a smoker, not one ashtray located anywhere on the resort, only place was at the front entrance where there was usually many people out smoking. I realize that we smokers are a dying breed but, instead of people tossing their butts everywhere, provide an ashtry near the pool and bar areas. On our first full day we booked a 50 minute relaxation massage with Renova Spa, lovely atmosphere but again - we were taken in late 12:20 for our 12:00pm appointment, left waiting lying on the beds for almost ten minutes before the therapists came back, when they finished it was 1:00pm. We inquired when we finished about the short time and were told our time started when we were brought to our room. So thats still only 40 minutes, and we were left waiting in our room for 10 minutes. We got no resolution, only told that they would have to check the cameras and get back to us.
Food was decent with a good selection, bar & wait staff were efficient and friendly (mostly) and housekeeping was wonderful. We couldn't get in to any of the a la Carte restaurants because we didn't line up at 5pm, crazy that you can't make a reservation.
Overall not a horrible place to stay but far from the best, needs some improvement to keep their guests happy.

My hubby and I stayed for 7 days, our first vacation. Booked through Sunwing. Arrived at airport mid morning about 10am and picked up by shuttle to resort, all very smooth and easy to find where to go. At the resort we were arriving with a very large group to check in - very busy. They asked us to leave luggage in the lobby until our rooms were ready at 3pm. We got wrist bands and were allowed full access to buffet and drinks, pool and beach. Room was ready early, however, my only complaint for the stay was our “King Suite” was actually 2 single beds pushed together. We had to sleep separately the first night and then moved to a different room which was farther away from the beach, we paid additional for ocean view (floors 2-5 apparently all the same rate). And the new room with full king bed was identical. Beds are not super comfortable, pretty soft and they don’t provide full size pillows - just little lumpy things. I left note and tip asking for cleaners to leave extra pillows but they didn’t.
Food was good, we tried all the restaurants. The steakhouse restaurant always had a huge line and you needed to be there at 5:15 and wait for 45 minutes to get a table or you couldn’t get one.
My favourite part was the beach. Beautiful, but crowded. Water was warm, perfect for swimming. They organize and play Beach volleyball a couple times a day which was great as well.
All the staff were very friendly and willing to help. We would tip a few dollars at each meal and a couple bucks to bartenders.
Overall, I loved the Bahamas and the resort was great. I would recommend.
Definitely check out the excursions, they are reasonably priced and you get to see more of the beautiful island. We went on snorkelling excursion to Stuart Cove and it was amazing. Swim with the sharks!! Only $100 us each for 4 hours out on the ocean. Great time.
Wish we were still there! Didn’t want to leave. 😊

I traveled to the Riu Palace on honeymoon for what I expected would be a quiet relaxing time with my new wife. I had read the reviews complaining about the volume of the music round the pool and thought it cane be that bad, but it was. It was not only the volume it was the type of music, not quiet relaxing reggae or calypso but loud raucous grime and hip hop at maximum volume. The hotel seems to be a destination for mainly American guests of a certain age and either there for short stays or hen and stag weekends

I would say this hotel is ideally suited as an 18-30 hotel and not for more senior aged guests. Its a great location and the beach was fabulous.

The hotel itself was clean and tidy and reasonably spacious rooms, however avoid the even number rooms facing east as you will be located above the extractor fans from the kitchens below, these fans are like nuclear reactors and completely stop you enjoying the balcony and the views. We had to change rooms to the western side after one night which was carried out speedily and efficiently after we complained.

The hotel has no lounge area to relax in, the calypso is vast and cold with no ambiance to speak of as it is too large and certainly not a piano style lounge.

The buffet was good and we found the specialized restaurants confused and slow on the service side.

Well what can I say….it was our first time going to the Bahamas and the Riu Hotel did not disappoint, very clean, always got staff cleaning inside and round the pool areas. The staff are so friendly and always said hi as you walked past them. Our room was quite big with a fantastic view of the ocean, pool area and we could also look out over the rest of Paradise Island which was nice.

The food was really good, so much to choose from, it was nice that they did dinner in one restaurant (the steak house) then evening buffet was in the main restaurant, so you didn’t feel like u was eating in the same place every day. The Jerk station round the pool was delicious. There was never a queue to get food where ever you ate either.

The pool area with the swim up bar was so much fun. The bar staff are quick with your drinks and was always entertaining. Lots of choices for drinks and they would also try make what ever drink u wanted that wasn’t on the menu.

We had abit of heavy rain while we was there, it didn’t really stop us from doing anything as it was when we was going to go get ready for the evening and if it did rain while we were near the pool we just sat or stood under the covered bar. If u did go back into the hotel there was someone at the entrance with a towel if your needed one.

The beach is the best I’ve seen, absolutely beautiful, it’s a good stretch of beach so if you like a walk it’s a good option. The water was so clear too. There were your usual jet ski and other water sports there and you didn’t feel pressured to pay to go on them, they were quite respectful.

The evening entertainment was good, u could watch it from the bar area or take a seat in the show room like an audience.

Safe to say we will definitely be returning in the future.

Stayed here on a girls trip, we requested two rooms with two double beds in each and we got king beds 1 in each.there were only two working elevators waiting in long lines for the elevators was ridiculous. There was no room service, there was no food or drinks in the mini bar not even a bottle of water. There were 2-3 hour waits for the restaurants we ended up eating at the buffet every night. Majority of the staff was friendly but some seemed annoyed to be helping you. When going to the pool you get two cards and are only allowed two towels. So if you want to keep a towel on your chair and one to dry off with you cannot do that. The swim up bar was not open. The entertainment was an absolute joke. The line for covid testing was crazy and ridiculous we wasted majority of our day doing that. The pillows in the room were for toddlers, one throw blanket per person. The power outlets in the room did not work our main shower head did not work.the room darkening shades are a joke the sun comes right through. The waitress at the pool was great majority of the staff was house keeping also very nice. You pay for an all inclusive resort I understand there are covid restrictions but they should have learned how to accommodate their guests better and give them more of what they paid for. Would not recommend this resort and would not return.

Classic case of an all inclusive not being to handle being an all inclusive resort because it feels like everywhere bar, pool lounges have a capacity of 40 people. Starting from check in we got here at 1030am and it was a huge group of about 50 people. It was my husbands work trip event. We were told that our rooms wouldn’t be ready till 3 pm so we hung around the pool. Both pools are small and other than the swim up bar not much to it. Easy access to the beach. We checked back in around 245 pm and was told our room still wasn’t ready then 3 pm comes which is when the front desk said it would be ready by and was told it wasn’t ready and that it would be another half an hour. Sorry but that’s just not okay and finally spoke to to someone else who gave us a different room. This event was booked way in advance so they knew they had a group of 50 people coming to check in at one time. Around 7pm we went to their Japanese restaurant, Tengoku (could be spelling it wrong) and our group had a table for 16 and kindly asked if we could get two chairs not tables to join them. The manager was beyond rude and screams “no we are full”. We go next door to another restaurant killamium and the manager kindly explained that they were full all night. We spoke to another manager Terrell explaining just how simply rude the manager at tengoku was and how uncalled for it was. Other than saying sorry he didn’t seem to care and told us to go the buffet because every restaurant was full and said “why you want us to get you two chairs for at Tengoku so you can watch them eat?” So there’s three dinner restaurants other than the buffet that hold about 20 people each in an all inclusive resort. I mean who thinks of this stuff.

Steer clear away unless you want to just eat the same buffets all day and drink all day at an overcrowded pool area.

Only other good thing is that it was directly across from The Atlantis

Nick wrote a review May 2021
So a big reason we chose Riu for this trip was that we stayed at the one in Jamacia and knew what to expect. Unfortunately there were alot of things that were unexpected.

The room fridge and liquor bottle holders were never stocked due to covid restrictions, but you get your room cleaned everyday so not sure how that makes sense. The bottles especially, since they are behind a glass box and you can't touch them. You have to get bottles of water (limited to 1 per guest) at the coffee bar which they don't tell you at the front desk when you check in. We ended up telling others because they kept asking us where we got the bottles.

The restaurants are at half capacity and you have to waste at least 3 hours of your night to try and get in. There's 4 total restaurants and they alternate which are closed each day, so sometimes theres only 2 open and with 25 - 30 people capacity you're just wasting your time trying to get in. If you decide to try your luck you'll be waiting at least an hour before they open in-line to hopefully get a seat in the first seating (6:30) or the 2nd at 8:30. If not you have to go to the buffet which the food isn't really that great. The "first come, first serve" wasn't explained at check in as once we figured it out we ending up explaining it to other guests we met who didn't know what to do.

Swim up pool bar is closed for some reason (covid?) But everyone is already in the pool with their masks off so I don't get why its closed (save money?). Which sucks becuase there's only 2 bars on the resort. At night they have a DJ and everyone goes to the dance floor unless they decide to tell everyone to go back to their seats which was hit or miss depending on the night.

One of the worst things was waiting for the elevators. The middle of the 3 is broken and has been for a while according to someone else we met. So you have to wait a long time for the elevator and while you're on it as it stops at pretty much every floor. Throughout the week we probably spent an hour or 2 just waiting for the elevators. We were on the 12th floor so the stairs wasn't an option.

The pillows for the bed are literally decorative sized couch pillows so make sure you ask for extra when you check in.

When you go to the beach be prepared to be bothered by the guys selling "cigars" as they will come up to you multiple times a day every day and the resort doesn't seem to do anything about it.

The only great thing I can say about the whole experience is the staff are incredibly accommodating and super friendly. The room was nice and updated and everything worked and we had a great view.

The whole resort just feels like they used Covid as an excuse to save money on alot of the things I mentioned. If the Covid restrictions were meant to do something they should be the same across the board not hit or miss
Really sad to see as I know this resort would be much better normally.

My husband and I stayed here on our honeymoon from 5/30-6/6 and we wouldn't have stayed anywhere else in the bahamas. These other reviews are probably some of the rich stuck ups who seem to be there just to complain. Yes the music by the pool is loud, it's a dj bar what do you expect? Yes the elevators aren't instantaneous and have 15 floors with 35 rooms each to accommodate. It's called Island time! Be patient or just take the stairs. We never waited more than 5 minutes for an elevator.

Now that I'm done with my rant... This hotel was an incredible experience. They checked us in early and let us hang out at the coffee bar with cheesecake while they got our room ready for us. We booked ocean front room 430 and I highly recommend paying for the extra cost just for the bigger room and view. The hotel was so very clean no lobby smells and somehow there wasn't sand everywhere. The staff are just amazing. Nicest and most accommodating people I've met. No one here "expected a tip" as others said, but be decent people and tip for good service!

The food great as everything had a local cultural touch to it. Don't go to another country then complain about the food not being American enough. Get in line at 5:30 for steakhouse, 5:40 for kulinarium. Download the Riu app to see which restaurants are open on each day. We saved so much money staying here than anywhere in the bahamas for included breakfast, lunch, unlimited coffee, booze, and dinner. Atlantis dinner was $40 for the smallest pizza and two canned drinks. But, don't stay stuck to the hotel go experience food on the island like margaritaville, Atlantis, etc.

The beach was perfect. Grab a Pina colada, complimentary beach towels, and have someone bring you beach chairs to your spot. The dj does a great job playing music to get the pool dancing and it ends way before anyone is ready to go to bed, 8pm. The hotel literally had a sign saying they don't associate with beach vendors so quit complaining about them. Just politely decline their weed and they leave.

Most importantly I felt safe at this hotel. Security was on top of things and immediately caught anyone who tried to get in without a Riu bracelet. Atlantis however, anyone can walk in from any entry point. Also the covid testing was a bit long because many guests didn't have their papers, but be grateful they even offer that at the hotel! Even with the dj, this place was so much quieter and more intimate than any of the Atlantis hotels. No kids, all couples, and perfect relaxing getaway. Could not recommend this hotel more for couples.

Obviously trying to cater to younger crowd. Loud obnoxious techno/rap music by small overcrowded pool area, no way to escape the horrendous music. If the DJ looked around and played to the majority of the crowd it would have been more pleasant. Beach not picked up seagulls flying around as people left food and garbage that was not picked up, and yes the seagulls were pooping on you or your things. The Steak House service was horrible also very very loud if groups of 6+ in the room. The Buffett was just ok, pretty much the same every night. The Cylpso bar was also VERY loud. We had a hard time finding a peaceful place void of loud music or loud reverberating noisy people. The room service food was poor quality and slow service. The worst was the cockroaches in the room discovered a couple nights before we left. Definitely will not return nor recommend to friends. Very disappointed in this RIU property.

We stayed at the Rui At the end of November. To sum up my review, I would not stay there again.
Cons:
(1) Extremely un-environmentally friendly! The drinks were given in small, single use plastic cups with plastic straws. There was only one recycling bin in the entire resort. As a result, a ton of plastic is getting thrown into the trash, and cups and straws littered the beach (so sad to see). In addition, the jerk chicken stand uses plastic utensils and styrofoam plates. Bring your own reusable cup to try and limit the waste, but the resort desperately needs to change to reusable cups, plates, and utensils!
(2) The area on the beach where you were allowed to have the beach chairs is relatively small. Large groups from cruises also used the Rui beach for the day, which caused everyone to be packed like sardines on the beach.
(3) The pool was not very clean. A lot of sand on the bottom, and I found bandaids, cigarettes, limes/lemons, straws, napkins, etc floating in it.
(4) The beach only got sun from 10-3:30 since the building blocked the sunrise and sunset. The ocean was fairly rough while we were there.
(5) The main lobby and bars smelled like sewer, I think due to the cleaning solution they use.
(6) Getting seated for the restaurants required standing in line for 45 minutes to get seated at 6pm. If you did not get seated at 6pm you had the option to get a beeper for the second seating, but there was no designated time so you had to hang in the first floor from 7:30-8:15. Also, the restaurants were quite small. I believe the resort was half full, and it was difficult to get seating.
(7) You could only order 1 appetizer/entree at the restaurants (which other resorts usually let you) and the portions were small.
(8) No option to eat outside for the buffet.

Pros:
(1) The staff was extremely nice and welcoming
(2) The bars were well staffed, never waited long for a drink
(3) The food was good, I just would like a bit more selection at the buffet
(4) The pools were heated to ~90, and the pool bar overlooked the ocean.

Everything is included.... Nevertheless, we brought a ton of $1s with us to just tip staff here and there. It goes a long way. Enjoy your stay.

I can't answer that. I was only there for the beach wedding, rehearsal dinner and reception. Most resorts on Paradise Island seem to be safe. Taxi was roughly $25 per person
