First of all, I must give credit to the Owner. He stayed open and saved a room for us as Nothing was available in Dryden and Ignace. Price was high, but after a long drive, from Regina, I needed some sleep. Room was clean, but No Microwave or Fridge.

Very old and in need of renovation. Very, very hot in July with no air conditioning, spent a sleepless night! Certainly not worth the cost. Manager (?) was not overly friendly or helpful, even though we had driven from Portage la Prairie, Manitoba that day. Wouldn't stay there again.

Room Tip: There are no good rooms in my view. Stay in a bigger town or city.

I was traveling with my dog, and when I got to Ignace I checked my trusty Google device to see how much further the next town was -- only an hour or so, 110 kms... Ignace was a super busy spot, any gas station was packed and the hotels / motels and restaurants were the same. Approximately 8:30 pm according to my watch. Google machine says Upsala has three different motels / hotels, gas station, restaurant, etc. ... Yup I'ma keep going.
So when I get to Upsala it's pitch black darkness, I find the little gas station but it's closed for the evening and doubles as a truck stop I guess. Check the Google machine again because I didn't see any accommodations yet. I call one of the motels listed (Parkview Inn) -- Yes we're open just another two miles east of town - theres a blinking lighthouse out front -- Okay so I drive up and find this place, crazy lighthouse disco strobe light flashing my road buzzed brains out - but I'm SO thankful this place is open because I was preparing myself for sleeping in my car at the gas station over night... Eeep!
Motel owner gives me a reminder of the time in this part of the woods, it's 11:45 and they close / shut off the disco ball at midnight. My watch is wrong and I'm somehow two hours behind but anyways. He also tells me that this is the only motel in town. The Google machine isn't accurate with anything in this town so don't count on it.
Get into my room, it's an average room, kind of musty smelling. Large but I assume it once held two beds at some point in time. There is a fan blowing in the room and the bathroom light/fan is on & door closed. Turn off the fan and shut off the bathroom fan because it's fairly chilly this night. Thats when I hear the beeping noise. There is an alarm clock or something going off in a nearby room...or is it coming from the ceiling?? I turn on the TV to drown out some of the beeping.
A noise outside - I have some new neighbors next door! Yay! Please be your annoying alarm clock and you can shut it off! I wait for silence... but the beeping continues. DANG IT. I turn the bathroom fan/light back on for white noise and turn up the TV volume a bit......
I crawl into bed because I'm really tired anyways. Watch some TV and think I will leave it all on to fall asleep to... nope just cant do it. I shut it all off .... I must have been really tired because I fell asleep to the beeping and didn't wake up until my own alarm clock wakes me up. STILL hear the beeping!! (I know I should have called the grumpy motel owner when I got into the room but I felt I already annoyed him with my late-ish arrival.)
Room was clean and bed wasn't totally uncomfortable. Rate was a little more steep here (~$100) but it's a cash cow for this guy no doubt.... and what are you gonna do, sleep in your car at the gas station with the truckers?
Stay in Ignace.

I was stranded here for four days back in 2014 after falling asleep at the wheel and rolling the car somewhere between Ignace and Upsalla. My husband took a taxi into Thunder Bay to find no rental cars were available for several days. During that time, Brent, the owner cheerfully drove me to the restaurant, brought me back, kept my supper on his fridge and looked out for me and our two dogs. There was a lame red fox nearby and Brent looked out for her too, making sure she got a daily ration of dog food. The motel is your basic family run roadside motel, perfectly adequate for its purpose. A highlight is the public park and lakeside Beach right across the road where one can enjoy a lakeside picnic for supper as the restaurant closes early. I recommend this place without reservation.

Upsala is a very small town in the middle of moose country. This hotel is a bright light when you are driving in the dark (which is not recommended in this area!) The owner lives nearby so they are always open if you need a room late late at night. He greeted us kindly, let us heat up some soup in his microwave and walked me back to our room because he was concerned about bears meeting me in the parking lot. Very kind man! The rooms are basic but very clean and they allow pets. We thought we had missed it as google maps doesn't exactly know where it is, but the hotel is right on the highway, the only hotel in the area.

Very old and poorly maintained. Extremely over priced. If you ever get the chance to stay here, don’t. We had no choice and were charge $170. Total rip off! A place that inspires tenting! Has huge potential to be a great parking lot!

It's a quite run down motel , and is certainly over priced for what you are getting. There are other opinions not far ahead that appeared to be much better opinions. The place was sketchy in all honesty.

Driving up the place looked attractive.
However it was late in the evening and we noticed no cars in the lot. The neon sign said "open". The office door was locked.
The owner did not say hello. He opened the door and flatly stated the price.
When I asked if the price included tv and internet his response was extremely rude and condescending. "Well do they have those things in Winnipeg?" was his response.
We told him that response was unnecessary and proceeded to leave. He followed us out insulting us with expletives.
We have never experienced such behaviour.

I've stayed at the Parkview a couple of times travelling to Thunder Bay. It's a good basic motel with a frig, microwave and wifi. U fortunately for the owner I usually show up around 10 PM. He's been welcoming each time. The rooms are a reasonable price.
