I booked a yoga and ariels package here in January 2020. The hotel staff were very responsive when I had questions and queries. The hotel, yoga loft, aerials school and restaurant are all owned by different people but they work together to try to create a comprehensive retreat service. It works fairly well.

Check in was fairly simple, they gave me a key and a lanyard (that I could keep!) and showed me how everything works. There's a locked gate to the rooms but I felt very safe the entire time. I had a trapeze view room. My room was very basic, the best part about it was the giant water cooler. Seeing as this is an eco-friendly, on occasion things don't work as smoothly such as when I was there we lost water a few times. I have heard people say the rooms are very noisy, but if it's windy or rainy, it's almost impossible for the hotel to control. I was not near the road so I did not experience any road noise. I really enjoyed the breakfast they offered in the mornings, probably my best meal of the day. The grounds were very nice, I never went into the pool (why would you when the beach is right there!) but it looked pretty inviting. This is not really a hotel meant for relaxation, it's more of a base for people while they are being active (kite surfing, yoga, fitness, etc). The staff was excellent here, including the owner. Very visible and interested in how your stay is going. You can't really beat the location, it's an ocean front hotel that is reasonably priced - just don't expect luxury.

This resort is such a gem for circus and yoga lovers! They have aerial classes, trapeze, a gym (classes available), organic locally grown meals (so fresh!), located right on the beach, and the hotel is eco-friendly and sustainable (bonus!). I was only here for 6 days with my boyfriend, but we cherished every moment. I was honestly living the dream:

Service is stellar, in person or via email. There is always someone at the front desk (8:30-5:30pm) to help you if you have questions (and in English!), and also they reply super quick via email. I asked sooo many questions prior to my visit and Victoria answered each one and made me feel comfortable with my choice.

I like that their booking dates are flexible. A lot of yoga retreats we looked at were only certain dates in the month, but this one you can come and go whenever.

We choose the weekend yoga package (plus a few nights), so we had 2 yoga classes a day with breakfast and dinner included. The rest of the activities you have to pay extra (kite surfing, massages, classes). We are in Kite Beach so it's always breezy! Beautiful view from the yoga loft.

Also included in the package was a farm tour—which was an experience I'll never forget! Not only did we taste fresh herbs and fruit grown by aquaponics, but we had a delicious homecooked meal afterwards and went river tubing down the most scenic lagoon. It looked like you're right in Jurassic Park.

Food is high quality with lots of flavour. Choices for dinner are abundant and breakfast is hearty (you choose from one of 8 items (nice lady cooks it for you when you want), plus a juice and smoothie. So healthy!)

We got lucky; our stay was quiet and intimate. Not many people in the gym or pool and I learn so much more in aerial class than my group classes at home!

Everyone is so nice, the food is premium and what is bad to say about the views?? There was nothing I would've changed about this experience, everything was amazing. Highly recommend!!

TIP: best currency is USD and in cash. not everywhere accepts card

This was such a wonderful “come as you are” facility. I felt like I was at home! The staff is kind and always checking in. They eat with you, they help plan fun excursions around the area. They want you to feel welcome and nourished on this beautiful beach! I would highly recommend for affordability, the delicious well-prepared food (made with love and care!), the great yoga classes offered to the public, and the spacious rooms.

I had the opportunity to travel last week to Extreme for a little escape from the everyday. It was exactly what I needed. Off the grid with excellent, high-quality yoga sessions. The hotel is quiet and allowed for a lot of rest and reflection. Right on the beach with lots of sand to walk in either direction. Carlos and the team in the restaurant were spectacular and the food was incredibly fresh. Loved my fresh ginger and mint tea (picked from the garden We were two ladies on our own and we never felt unsafe. We walked to town every day and also took a cab on one occasion. Highly recommend this little slice of heaven. Can't wait to go back!

Extreme is a special place. Daily exercise and yoga classes are excellent. The yoga loft overlooking the beach is beautiful.

The food is a highlight. It’s local, organic, healthy, vegetarian & substantial. Fruit, overnight oats, eggs, juice & coconut water for breakfast. The dinner buffet is abundant and there are lots of leftovers in the fridge for lunch the next day.

The hosts Ashley and Gio are delightful and so helpful & caring. Robbie the owner is warm & welcoming.

The infrastructure is dated but solid - apparently it was the first building built on the beach, before the kites. The room is basic and functional. A desk, balcony with 2 chairs and ocean views, fans, WiFi, drinking water, a fridge, comfortable beds, fulsome pillows, and the light blanket worked for us for Dec/jan weather. Take your own toiletries and a beach towel.

The gardens are lush & well-kept. Cute chickens free roam. The grounds are regularly sprayed for mosquitoes, so although there are still some around, we did not need deet.

You can be as social as you want with other guests who tend to hang out in the beachside dining lounge, or if you want alone time, that’s easy too. We saw the security guard regularly, and no outside guests are allowed which all makes it feel like a very safe community.

The restaurants along kite beach are very good. El Cocotazo was our favorite for lunch & afternoon cocktails.

For more options & dancing it’s a short bus trip/taxi/motorbike into town. Or walking is an easy 30 mins or so along the beach.

There’s a kite school right next door & you can be in the water as soon as the wind picks up. When the surf’s up, it’s less than a 10 min ride to Encuentro. Or if you take one of the hotel bicycles, it’s about 20 mins.

If you’re up for a unique & fun & healthy adventure, Extreme is well worth a visit.

My girlfriend and I went on a week long yoga retreat booked through a local yoga studio. We enjoyed our stay so much that we ended up staying 2 extra days after everyone else left! The staff was so inviting and personable, the grounds were clean and well kept, plus there were tons of amenities: saltwater pool with loungers, private yoga studio with an amazing ocean view, 24/7 weight room. The owner has a clear and focused goal of sustainability. The free roaming chickens that wander the well kept grounds supply eggs for breakfast, which is available 24/7 along with the leftovers from the previous nights meal if you feel inclined to have a midnight snack! While we were there they installed 2 cisterns to capture rainwater to fill the pool from and there is also an aquaponics system behind the building. I spoke with Robbie the owner and he said that all of the food was locally sourced from nearby farms. How cool is that? The place is very inspiring and I was left feeling better about myself and the world at large knowing there are still people out there that care about this planet we all share. Oh, and I actually lost 2 lbs while I was there which is the total opposite of my past 2 vacations. Thanks to all of the staff and crew that made our stay so memorable and enjoyable.

I had a great time at this hotel in Cabarete, Dominican Republic. eXtreme is geared for kiteboarders and is located right on the beach of Kite Beach. My girlfriend and I travel the world to find great kiteboarding spots and we were just amazed at Cabarete and Kite Beach -- the winds were awesome when we went during the summer. We were relieved to find out that all hotel guests received a kiteboard locker so we could easily store all of our gear. We were also pleasantly surprised to find out that the hotel had free wireless internet access (802.11b/802.11g) in its beach bar and by the pool. It was great to spend the days kiteboarding and then check our emails watching other people kite. The hotel looks like it also went through a recent remodeling and we were invited to their grand opening of the hotel lounge/bar. The lounge served a great mix of international food including some incredible mexican food and indonesian dishes. The hotel also had a great kite school and repair store -- I broke one of my kite lines, but was able to get replacement gear right at the hotel.

When we first arrived, we were pleasantly greeted by the hotel manager Diana -- she really was super friendly and showed us briefly around the hotel. Our room was clean and our bed was firm. The housekeepers were also superfriendly and we found that the entire service staff was really super nice -- we learned that the Dominicans are really great people.

One of the most pleasant surprises we had at the hotel is that we got free kiteboarding lessons from a pro named Hamish Macdonald. The hotel had a raffle for everyone who bought a drink during happy hour and my girlfriend won a free hour with Hamish. She was able to really improve her kiting because of the great wind and the lessons from Hamish.

As for the wind conditions and water conditions, I think Cabarete had a good range for beginners to experts. Since my girlfriend was a beginner, she was able to learn inside the reef (which was about 1/4 mile out). I was able to catch more challenging rides out near the waves and the reef -- in addition, the wind was about 10-20% stronger out by the reef so it got really crazy!

Overall, I highly recommend this fun hotel in Cabarete. It is really a great place for travelling kiteboarders and specializes in making sure kiters have a great time

The air conditioner didn't work, the ceiling fan didn't work, the room wasn't cleaned for two days, and the room was stained with mold on the walls. I never spent more time than to sleep in a hotel so I look for the very basic. Never stay at this hotel longer than a day. My friend checked in a day before me and checked out the next day. I checked in the next day and checked out two days later (and of course they were not willing to give my a refund for a 7 day stay). This place is disugsting

I read many of the reviews before going on my trip and saw the few poor ones. I took their opinions into consideration but after experiencing the hotel and the atmosphere I realize why their reviews are so poor.
First of all if you are a resort goer and expect a similar resort experience at eXtreme, then yes you may be a little disappointed. This hotel IS CLEAN, and a good place to stay the night. But traveling is not about staying in your room, so as long as there is a bed and clean sheets with a shower, life is good.

What makes it unique:
What eXtreme is all about is the atmosphere. And that is something very hard to find. It is an intimate environment since the hotel is smaller, so you make friends quickly. Everyone is very chill and relaxed all the time, but attentive if you ever need anything. I needed to use the phone to make a local call and several staff members offered their personal cell phones. When you first arrive, it is a little intimidating because it seems like everyone knows each other. But after a while you find that you become friends with these people very quickly and soon you're the one on the inside looking out as new people come to the hotel and join the gang.

THERE IS SECURITY:
I noticed this was an issue in some other posts and I want to clarify this. The hotel has cameras all over the grounds and guards working simultaneously. Trust me, I met them at night after coming home from festivities. They wonder around, and are always aware of who is staying at the hotel and that is why they don't question you when you come in at night. They are incredibly informed of what is happening and who is staying at the hotel. The gate to the rooms is a sturdy rod iron one with a large lock on it that only guests have keys to. That door is going nowhere anytime soon. You should feel nothing but safe here.

Staff:

All the staff is incredibly friendly. Papo, one of the hotel managers who also runs the Jujitsu school is super nice and concerned for guests welfare. My friend had a small cold when we were there and he was always checking up on her, making sure she was feeling well and offering local remedies like coconut water etc. He is an all around helpful and nice guy. Then there is Rob, who is another manager. He is funny and is always trying to make sure guests have a great time. His biggest concern is that you are getting what you want out of your vacation. And if you're not, he will try and help you make your time there that much better. One day Rob brought in a large bag of exotic fruit to share with everyone, including guests and staff and everyone just chilled and talked while eating fruit. Like I said atmosphere is everything here!

The Circus:

There is a Circus school here that can teach you flying trapeze, silk scarf and a few other things. Paul runs the operation and is awesome. His helpers are all incredibly friendly, and helpful when you are terrified of trapezing. :) Even when it feels like they don't have you when you are grabbing the bar, they definitely got you (inside joke that your going to have to try the Trapeze to find out lol). The circus is one of the things that makes eXtreme very unique and a different experience. Definitely worth a try!

The Restaurant:

Pretty much a life saver. You start to feel like everyone is family when staying here and the family who owns the restaurant definitely takes care of you. The grilled fish is excellent! As well as the pancakes with mango and banana in them. Fruit salad is amazing, as well as the Pesto pasta! Well...everything is excellent but nothing compares to the Mango cake (when they have it). I have had some gourmet cakes before at all sorts of restaurants, but this mango cake was THE BEST cake I have ever tried. If they bake it one day make sure you get a slice! Seriously it will change the way you think about cake forever. On top of that, there is wifi at the restaurant so you can bring your laptop, chill have a drink etc. The prices are pretty average, but the food is amazing. Nothing compares to the service though, like I said they treat you like family.

Surfing,

There are two surf spots at Encuentro Beach that are excellent. "Chino's" and "Bobo's Surf's Up". I definitely recommend either of these places if you are learning to surf. Instructors are friendly, their teaching skills are awesome and all equipment is included for 1000 pesos. It's a pretty amazing time, so if you are looking to surf this is the place to do it! If you ask people around the hotel they will recommend the same places.

The facilities:
Yes the rooms are not the Royal York or the Hilton. No there is no complimentary hair dryer stuck on the wall, or iron or coffee maker. They do give you towels, and if you feel like you need more, for wash cloths etc, just ask. Like I said it's chill and they can't read your mind, so if you need something just ask someone. You'll be glad you did. There is a mini fridge for use and a safe with a key. There is no air conditioning, but you have a private patio and are right by the ocean so there is a lot of air flow. Ceiling fan comes in the rooms as well. It can get hot, but it's the Dominican, its always hot. My one and only recommendation is to bring an alarm clock. Or a watch with an alarm on it. The rooms don't come with clocks so if you want to meet people in the morning to surf, it's pretty difficult to get up on time. But other than that it's clean, so don't worry.

Transportation:

Gua-Guas are super cheap way to get around. They look like large mini vans and will usually have a guy hanging out the side door. When they come down the road you know its a Gua-Gua because they will flash their headlights at you. Ask people in the hotel how much getting to certain places should cost!! If you ask the Gua-Gua "how much is it" of course they will charge you more (why wouldn't they). So to get an accurate price, ask hotel people and just hand the money to the guy, say thanks and walk away. Nothing more. Moto's are the motorcycle's hanging around which you will see everywhere. They are a bit more expensive but more practical at night. Usually 50 pesos (per person, not per bike) will get you to Cabarete. If you try to take a taxi everywhere you will find yourself out of money pretty fast, so try to be less North American and hope on a Moto or a Gua-Gua :) When in Rome do as the Romans do.

Restaurants away from the hotel:
Blue Moon restaurant is amazing. It's a traditional indian dinner that you eat with your hands. Eneyda runs the show and you can book with her. Rob knows her and can help you set up a dinner. You need a minimum group of 8 though. But if you can scrounge up everyone you are set for an awesome night of food and drinks with friends!

Overall comments.

Absolutely amazing, I was seriously contemplating cancelling my flight home after one week. If you are a chill person, generally athletic, adventurous and are social, this is definitely the place for you! You will only be as disappointed as you make yourself! So if you're high maintenance, probably not the place for you. You simply can't beat the value here. Oh and nothing will go missing from your room by the way.
