Awesome Place!

Review of Extreme Hotel
Reviewed Apr 16, 2024
Gio, Ashley & Robbie are great! This is an excellent place to get in shape. The yoga loft is my favorite place, because the view is incredible. The food is nutritious and very tasty. The personal training sessions with Gio are well worth the extra money.

Extreme is a special place. Daily exercise and yoga classes are excellent. The yoga loft overlooking the beach is beautiful.

The food is a highlight. It’s local, organic, healthy, vegetarian & substantial. Fruit, overnight oats, eggs, juice & coconut water for breakfast. The dinner buffet is abundant and there are lots of leftovers in the fridge for lunch the next day.

The hosts Ashley and Gio are delightful and so helpful & caring. Robbie the owner is warm & welcoming.

The infrastructure is dated but solid - apparently it was the first building built on the beach, before the kites. The room is basic and functional. A desk, balcony with 2 chairs and ocean views, fans, WiFi, drinking water, a fridge, comfortable beds, fulsome pillows, and the light blanket worked for us for Dec/jan weather. Take your own toiletries and a beach towel.

The gardens are lush & well-kept. Cute chickens free roam. The grounds are regularly sprayed for mosquitoes, so although there are still some around, we did not need deet.

You can be as social as you want with other guests who tend to hang out in the beachside dining lounge, or if you want alone time, that’s easy too. We saw the security guard regularly, and no outside guests are allowed which all makes it feel like a very safe community.

The restaurants along kite beach are very good. El Cocotazo was our favorite for lunch & afternoon cocktails.

For more options & dancing it’s a short bus trip/taxi/motorbike into town. Or walking is an easy 30 mins or so along the beach.

There’s a kite school right next door & you can be in the water as soon as the wind picks up. When the surf’s up, it’s less than a 10 min ride to Encuentro. Or if you take one of the hotel bicycles, it’s about 20 mins.

If you’re up for a unique & fun & healthy adventure, Extreme is well worth a visit.

While most resorts and hotels refer to their customers as guests, few truly make you feel like one. Extreme Hotel far exceeded our expectations in this category. The owner and the staff were beyond kind, so unbelievably helpful, and made us feel very welcome. It was more like staying with family or friends.

We were there for a week-long Yoga Retreat with a group of 13. Extreme Hotel ensured that our transportation to and from the airport was arranged and a member of the staff was there both to greet us at the entrance and to see us off as we left. And throughout our entire trip, they were happy to arrange transportation, excursions, and anything else we needed.

The vegetarian meals were made daily, and consisted of fresh ingredients that were partially grown and gathered on-site, and partially locally and responsibly sourced. Our endless supply of hardboiled eggs came from the sweet chickens that live on the grounds, and who roam free for part of the day. Other delectable breakfast options were the amazing assortment of fresh fruit, oatmeal, and a beautiful beverage station which included coffee, tea, and delicious smoothies. It was an at-your-convenience setup, too - accommodating the early risers and those wishing to sleep in.

Our buffet-style dinners were amazing each night and we always had plenty of fresh, healthy, and satiating options. There were leftovers every night and we had access to them, should we be hungry later on or be out and about during the scheduled dinner time.

There was an abundance of fresh drinking water jugs, and they were kept fully stocked in the beachfront dining area, the gym, and the individual rooms.

Each room was clean, decorated nicely, and had a mini-fridge for convenience. They also each had a private balcony with nice wooden chairs and beautiful views.

The gym was well-equipped, airy, and open 24/7. While we didn't utilize the personal trainers during our stay, we got to know them personally, and spoke to a long-term guest who did use them and raved about their sessions.

The Yoga Loft is to die for! The views cannot be beaten and it was for our private use throughout the week.

The beautiful, partially-shaded saltwater pool was a refreshing retreat from the sun and the surrounding area was so inviting with plenty of comfortable loungers.

There was no public access to the hotel grounds, which made it feel so safe and secure. We had all of the beauty and accessibility of the larger beachfront hotels, but the peace and quiet security of a private home.

Ultimately we loved our experience SO MUCH, we didn't want to leave! So when the rest of our group left after the retreat, my boyfriend and I stayed for 2 more days! The owner was amazing at quickly arranging for our extended stay and travel needs. We then got to experience the daily yoga classes and other private guest amenities.

We can't recommend this place highly enough and will certainly be back!

My girlfriend and I went on a week long yoga retreat booked through a local yoga studio. We enjoyed our stay so much that we ended up staying 2 extra days after everyone else left! The staff was so inviting and personable, the grounds were clean and well kept, plus there were tons of amenities: saltwater pool with loungers, private yoga studio with an amazing ocean view, 24/7 weight room. The owner has a clear and focused goal of sustainability. The free roaming chickens that wander the well kept grounds supply eggs for breakfast, which is available 24/7 along with the leftovers from the previous nights meal if you feel inclined to have a midnight snack! While we were there they installed 2 cisterns to capture rainwater to fill the pool from and there is also an aquaponics system behind the building. I spoke with Robbie the owner and he said that all of the food was locally sourced from nearby farms. How cool is that? The place is very inspiring and I was left feeling better about myself and the world at large knowing there are still people out there that care about this planet we all share. Oh, and I actually lost 2 lbs while I was there which is the total opposite of my past 2 vacations. Thanks to all of the staff and crew that made our stay so memorable and enjoyable.

Not what I expected (a surfcamp with a lot of young people to socialize with) , but a great place to stay in Cabarete! From what I’ve heard it’s not what it used to be a few years ago (a hippie-place with circus-school and sushi restaurant), and yes, it’s interiour and equipment is a little run down, but it has a lot to offer anyway!
So this is what you get:
Daily morning gym class, afternoon kite class, and the best yoga class I ever attended from Julia (the fun and kindhearted manager) in the evening. A great plus is the beautiful yoga-loft overlooking the beach! There are usually only a few rooms booked, so I had almost a personal trainer the whole week, which I enjoyed a lot!
On top of that, they have delicious, very healthy, vegetarian (almost vegan) food only! Breakfast and dinner are included in the price. They heat the precooked dinner after the yoga class for the whole group to share dinner together. Sadly everything comes in tupper boxes and is not served as you would imagine from a hotel, but the upside to this is that you can always go to the fridge and get your food whenever you want to (feels kind of like at home). For lunch you can eat the leftovers from the previous evening which are still very fresh and I like the idea of not wasting all of this well-made food! There‘s a coffee machine for you to use and fresh coconut water every day :)
I had a beautiful beachfront room that was quiet and somehow not as hot as everyone describes in other reviews. I have used the fan only once a week (beginning of january, very warm the whole day…). The only downside to the room was that it wasn’t very well cleaned and the shower takes a long time to turn to warm water (it’s solar powered).
I felt very safe in the hotel on my own as a woman. The staff was very friendly and the managers even became friends after a short time! They took every concern serious and tried their best to fix everything as soon as possible.
They have a lot of beautiful trees and flowers in the garden where fruit grows and chickens walk around freely. The pool was cleaned every day, even though it was only rarely used!

If you‘re looking for a calm, unique residence (that‘s not like all the overly-touristic beachfront apartment-blocks nearby) and if you love a healthy lifestyle or maybe want to get in shape directly at the beach, then this is the place to go!

I booked a yoga and ariels package here in January 2020. The hotel staff were very responsive when I had questions and queries. The hotel, yoga loft, aerials school and restaurant are all owned by different people but they work together to try to create a comprehensive retreat service. It works fairly well.

Check in was fairly simple, they gave me a key and a lanyard (that I could keep!) and showed me how everything works. There's a locked gate to the rooms but I felt very safe the entire time. I had a trapeze view room. My room was very basic, the best part about it was the giant water cooler. Seeing as this is an eco-friendly, on occasion things don't work as smoothly such as when I was there we lost water a few times. I have heard people say the rooms are very noisy, but if it's windy or rainy, it's almost impossible for the hotel to control. I was not near the road so I did not experience any road noise. I really enjoyed the breakfast they offered in the mornings, probably my best meal of the day. The grounds were very nice, I never went into the pool (why would you when the beach is right there!) but it looked pretty inviting. This is not really a hotel meant for relaxation, it's more of a base for people while they are being active (kite surfing, yoga, fitness, etc). The staff was excellent here, including the owner. Very visible and interested in how your stay is going. You can't really beat the location, it's an ocean front hotel that is reasonably priced - just don't expect luxury.
