This was our third visit to Matanivusi and it just gets better and better. Previously we have been with our three boys, this time on our own and it was the perfect getaway in the lead up to Christmas. Being such a small resort means it is really personal, the friendly local staff all greet you by name and everyone goes out of their way to make your stay enjoyable. My husband got great surf twice a day every day - both locally and at Frigates, and we enjoyed the SUPs, snorkelling, relaxing by the pool, private yoga sessions and massages in the new Spa (highly recommended!). Brian, Donna and Tony were as welcoming as ever, and of course we loved seeing the two dogs Coolie and Burleigh again!
The rooms are light and spacious, accessed along the cool jungle walkways and all with gorgeous views. The whole setting is really raw and beautiful, far from the touristy resorts of Fiji.
The food is also amazing - locally produced and fresh-cooked, the only difficulty we had was choosing what to eat each meal as the options have gone from two to four! Everything was fresh and delicious, and all included in the price so you never even have to think about it. Tony surprised us on our last night with a special seafood platter (it was our wedding anniversary) / our table was set up on the new deck by the water and we needed two tables to hold all the lobster, prawns, crab and fish, it was really special. To Brian, Donna, Tony and all the staff, thank you so much for a fantastic, relaxing few days, we can’t wait to come back xxx

We had our first experience of Matanivusi Eco resort at the end of January this year and boi oh boi did they not disappoint. We were crazy enough to still go ahead with our booking despite the TC Cyclone that was developing and aimed to hit Fiji that same weekend. We were lucky enough to be nestled away and safe with very little damage while we were at the Resort. The local staff treated us like we were old friends and made us feel very welcome. Food and service was excellent. So much so that we decided to make a second trip in March and again warm and kind service.

The resort is an Eco Resort foremost so my only suggestion to locals going there (especially now with Border closure) is respect the space. If you're taking snacks and alcohol please be upfront with them and offer to not only pay appropriate corkage (disclaimer - they don't actually offer corkage and discourage brinigng your own alcohol) but also be respectful of their effort to minimise their carbon footprint and take back your waste to dispose of properly.

Its a great place to have a brief getaway and unplug. Definitely recommend to savvy locals that would love a fun and chilled out little getaway and keen to support our local tourism sector.

Vinaka vakalevu.

Just where do we begin? We stayed at Matanivusi mid-March for 7 days for my 50th birthday.
The accommodation was beautiful eco freeing bungalows, with a tropical feel right on the beach. I mean right there!
The hosts, Donna and Brian were extremely friendly and their nature was reflected in their incredible staff. From the kitchen and resort staff to the surf guides, all the staff made every moment memorable.
The food, one word - sensational! Fresh and delicious everything. They even arranged an amazing seafood dinner on the beach for my 50th celebrations.
As a keen surfer the hosts had everything covered to ensure we maximized surf time with boats ready to go out to the breaks at anytime. They even turned on the swell and offshore winds!
The snorkellling was world class, the water crystal clear and the fresh coconut on the beach after young Uli climbed a tree to grabbed the plumpest fruit he could find, simply outstanding.
We were also lucky that they had just open their beautiful Spa, which was such a treat.
Also all the guests staying here were lovely people to meet too.
Thanks again to everyone at Matanivusi, we will be back.

We loved our stay at Matanivusi; it was exactly what we needed. My partner went surfing every day, while I went snorkelling, read, did yoga and made friends with the other surf widows.

The staff were so friendly; Junior kept us on our toes with his wicked sense of humour, Captain Morgan found some brilliant waves for my partner, Melaki (not sure I've spelled correctly) gave a wonderful pregnancy massage and Tania, the yoga instructor, only arrived half way through our stay but was a beautiful addition to the Matanivusi community and led us through the most magical classes underneath the huge banyan tree.

The food was consistently outstanding (although I wish they offered half portions - they're definitely cooked for people who have been surfing all day) and waking up to the sound of the ocean right outside our door was heavenly.

I loved the commitment to sustainability, too, which I think attracts a smarter, more conscious and interesting, laid back type of guest (pretty important when there are only 12 rooms and you're eating together every night). If you're looking for 5 star luxury, this probably isn't your vibe (think worm toilets and BYO - ideally eco friendly - shampoo), but if you want genuinely passionate staff, awesome location, delicious hearty meals and activities on demand, Matanivusi is for you.

I’m still daydreaming about my time at this place…

If you're looking for some seriously EPIC surf, this is the place to go. My husband and I came to Matanivusi for the ultimate surf trip for our Honeymoon, and all I can say is WOW. It was everything and more - a trip we will never forget, not only because we seriously scored perfect waves every single day for 6 days with no crowds at all, but because of the absolutely beautiful owners and staff who work there and the amazing service they provided. We seriously felt like we were part of a little family, it was one of the most wonderful, memorable and unique experiences we have ever had on a holiday and I will really miss all the people that we got the pleasure of meeting. The food was seriously so good and flavoursome and had that homemade feel to it. Every day they had different items on the menu board for lunch and dinner and I felt this weird excitement when the board came out for us to choose our meals, to see what selections of deliciousness we got to choose from haha. Far beyond better than the food we ate at The Fiji Marriott/The Intercontinental Fiji!

The resort itself is soo lovely, yet humble. Walking to the Villa’s feels like you’re in a rainforest with the most STUNNING trees I have ever laid my eyes on. The Villas are all feel super private and are right in front of the crystal clear ocean! It was sooo relaxing and beautiful sitting on the balcony every arvo after a long day surfing, reading a book or drinking a cocktail. There’s also an awesome pool and spa overlooking the beach and a gorgeous little outdoor bar table where you can have arvo cocktails into the sunset.

We had multiple massages and facials at the amazing Spa there, it was absolute bliss and highly recommended.

Another thing I really love about this place is that the meals and the boat trips are all inclusive, so there was no shock at how much you would pay at the end (unless you’re like me and drank way too many cocktails..), and you have access to surf all day, rather than going to a huge resort where you have to pay $$$ to hire a boat to surf for a couple of hours. It is really bang for your buck.

Brian and Donna who own Matanivusi are the biggest legends - so engaging and friendly, and each and every staff member that works there are the most gorgeous people you will ever meet, they literally make the experience what it is and it would absolutely not be the same without them.

I could write way more about this place and the individual people who work there, but I will stop now and you can see for yourself!

We will 100% be coming back here ❤

Bula Georgia! We miss you guys. Thank you so much for your review. It was so much fun having you here for your Honeymoon! I'm glad to hear you and El will be coming back. He has to give the "El's Bell' a workout lol. All we want to do is make people's holidays special, so I'm really pleased our staff were able to accomplish this. Until the next time.... ❤

We had a great time at Matanivusi!

The room was comfortable and quiet. The food was great and they did a good of accommodating our vegetarian diet. Donna was wonderfully helpful from her warm greeting until she saw us off—she made sure everything was taken care of and went out of her way to help schedule some off site scuba diving for my wife. Brian woke up early to personally take us surfing on a number of occasions before the boatmen got there. He clearly cares a lot about this place and works hard to keep things running to his standards. He's also a wealth of surfing knowledge and has seen it all.

James and Chad we're great surf guides and got me into some of the best waves of my life. Emory and Weiss were fantastic boat captains and got us out to Frigates safely, many times and in some rough seas. The main surf boat had band new engines, ran well and was comfortable and safe. Frigates is way out in the ocean and you absolutely want a great crew and vessel if you're heading out there. The team packed great food and we were able to comfortably spend all day out there. There were a lot of great aspects to the trip, but that was the main draw for me and the team definitely delivered.

The whole Fijian staff were amazing (apologies for any misspellings). Kreiga, Sala, Junior, Sany, Coola, Meleki, Ma, Mariah, and anyone else I'm forgetting. They were the best!

Charlie was the visiting yoga instructor and she was awesome and super accommodating in terms of class schedule.

The other guests were great as well and we surely made some lifelong friends.

The eco aspects of the hotel are significant. They do a great job as stewards of the land they're on. Get Weiss to give you a tour of what they're doing.

Enjoy!

Vinaka to all!

A week at Matanivusi is a week you won't forget. There are multiple surf spots all within an hour from the resort, so no matter the conditions you'll always have waves somewhere. The food is incredible, there are multiple dishes to choose from everyday for each meal. If you're lucky enough to catch a fish they'll make sashimi for you and serve it beautifully. The staff really create a 'family' vibe by setting a big table each night for all guests to sit at. This gives you the opportunity to mingle with other guests, which you'll end up being best buds with by the end of the week. If you're unlucky and get a super rainy day with no surf, there's still plenty to do. Yoga, snorkelling, kayaking, a hot tub, beachfront pool and local waterfall trips. The staff are so welcoming and genuine, we felt very well looked after. A unique, fun and adventurous experience I will never forget!

We chose this resort as a destination for our 13 year old to pursue his surf passion whilst we recharged our batteries. We couldn't have found somewhere more special - mostly because of the genuine desire of each and every one of the team to leave no stone unturned in the effort to ensure that our trip met our expectations. The small and secluded nature of the resort makes it a very genuine experience. Attention to detail is commendable. The facilities are fantastic. Every other guest that we shared the time with was either a returning guest or was emphatic that they would be back. I felt that our son was always in safe hands, despite me through ignorance of surfing underestimating the level required on reef breaks. Our son had an absolute ball. He was mentored and pushed to his limits not wanting to miss one single boat heading out to the reef. The menu and execution of it was such a treat.

This was our third trip to Matanivusi & we’ve loved every trip. When you arrive at Matanivusi you are treated like part of the family, everyone is helpful, friendly & makes sure your trip is special checking in that all your individual needs are met.
The surf this trip was great ranging from 2-6ft, with a couple of trips to Frigates, Serua Rights, Fiji Pipe & Shifties. Snorkelling trips were also regular. Each night an announcement was made after dinner updating the plan for the next day.
They also helped us link with a River Tubing Day Trip which was a good opportunity to see a different part of Fiji.
The food as always was amazing with a highlight being the Fiji Night where staff prepare a traditional Fijian dinner (you can also help).
The Spa was a must after long surfs with a variety of massages & beauty treatments on offer. The deep tissue massage was excellent.
Unfortunately they didn’t have a yoga instructor this trip but they have one starting next month.
We hope to be back fro our forth trip!

My husband and I spent 6 days at this beautiful Fijian resort. The location is stunning and our gorgeous Bure looked straight out onto the water. Everything was clean and super comfortable. The strong sustainability ethos of the resort was also impressive. My husband wanted to celebrate his 60th birthday with a surfing holiday and he was not disappointed! He managed 5 days of awesome surfing, including 3 trips to Frigates, while I enjoyed relaxing by the pool, snorkelling, a massage and plenty of beach walks. The resort is naturally beautiful, but what is truly outstanding about this place is the staff! From the drivers who transported us to and from the airport and to a local waterfall, to the cooks, wait staff, masseurs, surf and snorkelling guides, housekeeping staff and so many others- everyone was incredibly friendly, welcoming, caring and worked hard to make sure we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We were told that once we entered the doors of the resort, we were all family and that is exactly what it felt like. Our stay was topped off with a special celebration for my husband’s 60th including a Kava ceremony, traditional Lovo, music and delicious birthday cake. We would love to return to this beautiful place one day. Vinaka Vakalevu to all the staff!
