When we got to Karahe, we checked in and they were going to put us in a room on the hill side of the resort. We asked how much it would be to be put on the beach side and they quoted us a reasonable rate so we did it. We traveled from Arenal and was looking for a quick bite so we asked reception if the restaurant was open, they said yes for another hour. We quickly dropped our things in the room, and headed to the restaurant on the beach (10 min) later and they were closed. It was already late so we decided to just go to bed and wait for breakfast the next day. So be-warned the restaurant can close early.

Room was nice, clean and the balcony was nice. Hammock on the balcony was a nice touch.

There were gates down to the resort (from the road) and on the beach to make us feel safe. Restaurant's were in walking distance but it was on a hill so taxi or car would be easier.

Breakfast was okay. Basic and enough to fill us for our adventures for the day. Location is prime for this hotel as it is on the beach and close to Manuel Antonio Park. We did a day trip there and decided to stay a little longer and we were able to walk back (20-30 minute walk) to the hotel. Beach is pretty but beware the monkey's!

We stayed 4 nights at this hotel.
The hotel is nicely located just by the Espadilla beach and it has direct access to it. There are lots of animals wandering around the hotel gardens including agoutis, iguanas and capuchin monkeys.

We stayed on a standard beachfront room, which was clean, the bed was really comfortable and had a hammock on the balcony. We've had some issues with the mosquito net but this was solved during our stay. We recommend the beach front rooms as the other rooms are next to the main road and not as quiet. Also, one thing we noticed during our trip in Costa Rica, and this hotel was no exception, is that it is better to pay for a superior room if you are looking for better overall conditions, like bathroom and window maintenance. One example is that most superior rooms have a proper glass window in the bathroom whilst other rooms only have a net.

The breakfast and other meals we had at the hotel bar were very good. The bar staff were friendly and there is also bar service at the beach. Juan Carlos was working at the bar on many occasions during our stay. He was a very nice and engaging person. He recommended some hikes and was very knowledgeable on the local fauna.

Overall our experience was really good and the location was exceptional, so definitely recommended!

First we were disappointed because its a highly trafficed road between reception, the villa we stayed in, and the beach/swimmingpool/restaurant. Our 9 year old could not walk alone. The swimmingpool is very small, looks so much bigger on the website, the restaurant was a disappointment and breakfast really poor. Service at the breakfast was not good either. The first 24 hours our toilet didnt flush. So first we really didnt like it. But the villa had excellent sea view and the beach really nice (though the hotel only has 5 sunbeds and we got one only one of four days) and the wildlife better than the MA park. A lot of iguanas in every bush and monkeys in the threes. When we compared Karahe to other nearby hotels I think it was great value for the money and we really enjoyed the villa that was clean and had the great view. So it all depends on what you are after. Now that we know, we could stay at Karahe again despite the downsides since the upsides make it worth the stay.

The location is beautiful and central. What was disappointing was my bed was full of bed bugs located in the wicker headboard. I had about ten bugs on me the moment I turned off the lights. What is more disappointing was how management handled the situation. When we approached management in the morning (there is no way to contact management at night), we were told she was not here and that we would be notified by email. We were emailed that sheets are washed daily (which I believe) and that we probably got bites from ”coloradillas”. I have pictures of my bites, as well as, the bugs and we were still dismissed. I had left my room that night because of the nest. If you stay there, please look for mattresses removed from rooms and located outside of the building (something that we ignored) and prepare to have the bed bugs bite. Management will not take any accountability.

Response from Karahe B, Gerente at Karahe Beach Hotel
Responded Mar 5, 2020
With reference to your note about bedbugs, I would like to inform you that we do not have bed bugs in our beds. We change our sheets everyday. In the tropics there is always a misunderstanding regarding bed bugs. When people make tours to the National Park or walk over grass, there are very small bugs that get into your skin that we call “coloradillas” and they make you itch very badly and the only way to get rid of them is by rubbing alcohol. I think that that could be the case or else itching from mosquitos. In any case you mention that you have pictures of bedbugs, I would like to see them. Sincerely yours, Cecilia Lutz Hotel Karahe

Karahe is a great hotel with all necessities to spend some time on the beach on the Manuel Antonio/Quepos location. Breakfast included with monkeys around on the trees, walking distance to the beach and beautiful nature everywhere. A/C, hot showers, very comfortable beds.

From your room at this hotel you can walk straight to the Pacific Ocean. We enjoyed doing so daily. The restaurant and its service was excellent as well. We enjoyed breakfast (included), lunch and dinner there all three days of our stay. The teenager says they have the best french fries in Costa Rica! However, the rooms are quite damp and the AC, while cool enough, doesn't really help with the humidity. I expected some dampness at the beach, but we couldn't get anything dry and, of course, it was too wet to dry things outside either. An exhaust fan in the bathroom would help tremendously.

Quepos is a shabby beach town, overbuilt, very touristy. Our hotel room was clean, but needed an update. But the bed and shower were good. The main attraction of the hotel is the beach front, a rarity in Quepos. The hotel provides chairs and beach towels, and large trees offer shade. Vendors sell crafts, but they are polite and unaggressive. A beautiful beach for morning walks. The gardens are also pleasant. Tiny swimming pool. Adequate buffet breakfast in the open-air hotel restaurant. Watch out for the monkeys! The hotel is on a busy road, so walking requires care and attention.

I understand why some people are dissatisfied with this hotel. It seems most of them got a room in the section of the hotel across the road from the beach. That is definitely not the prime location, but if you want to save some money and are willing to put up with the inconvenience of walking up and down steps and walks and having to cross the road to get to the restaurant, pool, or beach, that's the place to be. But the best rooms are definitely on the beach side of the road, and you do pay a premium. I did a lot of research before I booked here, and I knew I wanted the premium room and timed my trip to accommodate that. The room was OK. Nothing spectacular but clean and comfortable, with a balcony facing the beach, which you really couldn't see much because of the trees. You have to keep the door to the balcony closed or you may end up with a room full of monkeys, and that's not a joke. The restaurant was OK. Not a big selection but the food was good. They have secure parking on the premises and it's a short walk on the grounds to the pool, restaurant, and beach, but watch out for the iguanas. You can walk down the beach to Manuel Antonio National Park. Everything is strung out along the one main road that follows the coast, but it's only a 2-lane road and there's not a lot of space to walk.

As said in my review title this is nothing thrilling as a hotel, but the location is perfect as it's on the beach and really close to Manuel Antonio national park. The hotel desperately needs revamping, the breakfast is extremely basic and not as safe with all the monkeys jumping around and stealing food and the facilities as a whole need modernization. Wifi is not good, reception is not available 24/7 and at the beach, for one of the hotels to actually be located on the beach, they could do with a few more sunbeds. The restaurant which is also the place you have breakfast needs more serving options too as it's pretty basic for lunch and dinner as well as breakfast. For a beach hotel, it actually also surprised me that out of all hotels we stayed at in CR, this was the only one where they didn't change our towels or beach towels and they didn't seem to really add more handsoap, toilet paper, etc. It was just they came, cleaned, made the bed and left so I couldn't justify the tip for the cleaner, sorry. For two nights it's doable as I mentioned location was key. But if for example you are going on a honeymoon or for longer than two days, maybe you should reconsider.

The staff went out of their way to welcome me and make my stay comfortable, the bungalow villa was modern and very comfortable. The location is perfect - on the far end of the beach with wilderness to one side, but the other hotels and a short walk to shops, activities, national park etc to the other side. Very peaceful and relaxing, lovely cocktails served on the beach and the beach itself is stunning. Thank you to all the staff for the lovely stay.
