We loved our stay at the Altura Hotel. The property is so beautiful and well maintained and there are common many areas to relax and enjoy the surroundings. The family that runs it was extremely welcoming and Ramiro even helped us book tickets for the volcano. The breakfast is amazing! Would definitely recommend staying here if you are in this area!

The place is beautiful, you have great view of the valley and you’ll be at 10 min from the Poas volcano so the place is very convenient. You can also visit some waterfall and coffee tour near by.
The staff is very cool and they will help you to book any activity you want to do.
The room includes everything you need, typical Costa Rican breakfast is includes. You can also play with the two dogs, they are really nice and they love to play, especially Coco (the big white dog)
You’ll enjoy the place for sure

Fantastic and convenient place to start or finish a trip to Costa Rica if you want to avoid San Jose. It is close to the most beautiful volcano , Poas, and also to the airport. You can take your rental car and spend your first night here in preparation for your visit to Poas Volcano (10 mins drive) The lodging and breakfast is just fantastic. I fully recommend it.

My family of 5 stayed at Altura for 3 nights. The grounds are just gorgeous with the most amazing views. It’s one of those places where you can relax immediately and just be there to enjoy the hotel and the people. Breakfast was delicious and the owner Roberto is charming and hospitable. My husband needed an inhaler and forgot his so Roberto went and got him one. Ramiro was the manager and he was very helpful with ideas and just a pleasure to hang out with! My 3 teenagers loved collecting eggs every morning, petting the donkeys and LOVED their huge Pyrenees Coco and the many cats. We had two rooms which could have accommodated 5 of us but we chose two rooms that were on the top floor of a large modern cabin… like a fourplex. Mattresses very comfortable! Don’t forget to try strawberries with condensed milk at any roadside stand & Chubascos for lunch.

Our teen kids became very excited on exploring our shipping container accommodation. They loved having their own floor and lounge area. The combination of the inside steps for excitement and the outside steps for ease of use worked very well. We enjoyed the views down to the valley from the grounds and from our roof. The staff were very helpful with ordering food to be delivered for guests and we enjoyed eating around the fire pit. The icing on the cake was a spectacular view of the Volcan Poas crater the next morning.

Being welcomed with a relaxing massage while watching the sunset in the Sunset Suite is priceless.
The tub, being the centerpiece of the room, looks elegant and the valley view is breathtaking. The bed is so cozy and the check-in went quickly and smoothly. And of course, the breakfast is delicious as always. Thank you for the great experience.

My husband and I met our family at Altura Hotel for a two-night stay. Adrianna, the receptionist, was amicable and helpful. Our “Standard Room” was anything but standard! It overlooked the whimsical gardens and was clean, spacious, and comfortable. We loved the locally-made bath products. Spending two nights on the side of Poas volcano felt like being in heaven! It was quite windy during our stay, so bring a light jacket! Each morning, we were treated to eggs cooked to our preference, fresh fruit, coffee, and delicious bread. The resident puppies (friendly, large mountain dogs) and gatos made us feel right at home during our stay at Altura hotel. As a bonus, the local area has plenty of great restaurants and is a short drive to the Hacienda Alsacia coffee farm.

We stayed in a “suite” that was one big room for four with two uncomfortable beds and ugly furniture. The Wi-Fi didn’t work and neither did tv until morning. This would have been okay at a reasonable price but all in the room was $175 which was a price point where we had two spectacular stays in CR. This said the young woman working there was very nice (unlike older guy and apparent owner), breakfast was good, and grounds are lovely. If going to the area just find somewhere that night. You’ll pay much less and it won’t be worse

Stayed one night in the suite. The room was very dusty and dirty, with cobwebs hanging from all corners. Windows were very dirty and the curtains had stains. The temperature in this suite was COLD ALL THE TIME. They provided a small heater but that was not even being close to providing a relaxing environment. They only provided one extra blanket and I had to sleep with a had and jacket. Plastic flowers everywhere...also covered with dust. Maybe it was nice in the past but overall it felt like it was a ghost of a better time. Highlight was the view and the breakfast-yummy but small.

I love this place! It’s so peaceful and tranquil. Room was a two story container unit. My daughter and I really enjoyed our stay. Breakfast was delicious. Romero took us to the volcano and picked us up. He even provided us with a driver to take us down to Quepos at a very cheap rate. The driver was awesome as well.

Hi, there are a couple of local drivers whom provide such services. Non the less we highly recommend a rental car, because of cost and availability.
