The view was the best! Some things need to be updated within the room. For example the bathroom needed some work. There was some mold on a wall. The keys needed to be activated again every day for some reason. It was not noisy. Staff helpful and friendly. Breakfast was tasty.

Have stayed several times with my wife and children. Extremely friendly and responsive staff, great breakfast, luxury suite is clean, huge with a spectacular view of Rio and Christ the Redeemer, pool was great and provided good security. Also fairly central to Niterói . Cannot really ask for much more. Will be there again this year. We really would not consider staying elsewhere.

I and my wife had a wonderful time when we stayed here late December for a week.

We decided to get an airport taxi to the hotel which was arranged at the kiosk just before exiting the airport. The kiosk staff take payment for the taxi so all you have to do is tip once you arrive at your destination. The journey time was approx. 30 minutes.

Check in was very quick and smooth. All the staff on reception speak excellent English.

We were really impressed with the size of the room and as we were put on a corner room we had two gigantic balconies. We had a front facing room which gave an impressive view of Christ the redeemer and sugar loaf mountain.

The room provided a large fridge, hob, and plenty of storage space. The hotel confirmed prior to arrival that ironing facilities were not provided, therefore we brought our own travel iron. The room was serviced daily to a very high standard, with fresh clean towels provided alongside.

Free Wi-Fi was provided in the room and live premiership football was shown on the T.V.

We took advantage of the swimming pool which is kept immaculately clean and the surrounding grounds are very striking. We had no issue with getting a sunbed. Please note that pool/beach towels are not provided so please ensure you bring your own. The views from the pool area are absolutely breath taking.

We visited the hotel restaurant twice during our stay. The service, food and price were all excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed the Caipirinhas.

As we are keen runners we truly enjoyed the running experience of Niteroi. We couldn’t believe how many other runners/joggers there were and felt very safe exploring the area. We always finished up at the kiosk/bar that was located on the sea front just on the left hand corner at the bottom of the bank. We sampled many of the drinks here and couldn’t believe they sold apple Smirnoff which was very tasty. There was an array of beers sold here at a very cheap price. A perk of this kiosk was that it was open 24 hours a day. It also sold water, cans of pop and snacks including French fries. We found ourselves buying a pack of small waters which saved us having to walk into the town for them.

As we are fans of the Outback Steakhouse (when we visit the U.S.A) we were very surprised to find one located in the local shopping mall. However it was nothing like its American counterpart. It took over an hour to get a table. It was unfortunately not worth the wait.

The other places we dined during our holiday included the buffet style restaurant which was located a short walk on the right of the hotel. Cooked to order pasta, pizza and other delightful treats were on offer, they also served delicious cold beers and tasty Caipirinhas. This was a lovely little restaurant and great value for money. We also visited the restaurant next door to this buffet restaurant which served great steak and chips. This restaurant was also great value for money and served great beer and Caipirinhas.

One evening we ventured out to Sao Francisco. This was a short taxi away and there were many bars and restaurants to choose from.

We utilised the various modes of transport Rio had to offer when we visited Christ the Redeemer. We used the ferry service from Niteroi over to Rio. It is a short walk from the hotel to the ferry terminal and took about twenty minutes to cross. It cost around £2 for two adults each crossing.

We were unsure of the best method of reaching Corcovado Mountain so we flagged down a taxi that dropped us off at Corcovado Station. From here there were two transport options to reach the apex; this was via the cog train or one of the organised mini buses. As the waiting time for the cog train was over two hours we decided to take the mini bus. This cost about £10 but it got you up the mountain safely and quickly and included a return journey.

Christ the redeemer was so spectacular likewise to the panoramic view of Rio down below.
For our return journey back to Rio we hopped onto one of the buses that were waiting outside Corcovado Station and made a visit to Copacabana.

We had an absolutely fantastic time and felt so welcome by both the hotel staff and the locals. We never felt threatened once and we felt safe walking around the area both day and night. We will definitely return to this lovely delight and big massive thanks to all the staff at the hotel who made our stay a pleasurable one.

Spacious self-service studios but not fully equipped (no kitchen knife, toaster, washing-up liquid or drying cloth). Great views, pool and jacuzzi and helpful staff, but remote from shops and restaurants (30 minute walk) and not safe to walk at night, so taxis obligatory and readily available. A/C bus 740D from the town takes an hour to Ipanema/Copacabana (5.30 reals) and the stops are not marked (use BRZ 3). Noisy (oil rig in Guanabara bay works 24/24, city airport nearby, noisy A/C) so take earplugs! Strange shower (turn flow down but listen for the flame for hot water, set unusual dial on the wall to max). Staff ignore the hotel's campaign to reuse towels. Reasonable selection in the restaurant and excellent Porcao restaurant nearby. Neither the front desk nor banks change cash – use the Cambio on 5th floor of the Plaza shopping centre. Credit cards widely accepted. Overall, best for Brasilians with a car.

Location - hotel seems to located off the beaten path on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro away from nightlife and activity. At 17:00 it was about one hour cab ride from SDU airport. I did meet colleagues for dinner in an area that seems to be populated and on the beach about 15 minute ride away.

People - front desk staff and restaurant staff are the only staff I encountered and all were delightful.

Facility - old and in need of updating and/or repair. Hallways leading to room were too warm, humid and very musty smelling. Kind of had a stale urine smell! I walked into my room and I would estimate the temperature to have been about 80-85f and very humid. I actually had a one bedroom suite. In the living room there was a window air conditioner unit mounted above the sliding glass door. It was running full but it was not cooling the room OR drying the air. In the bedroom there was another air conditioning unit but it was not turned on. I turned it on and it immediately started spitting condensation and black “speckles” on the white duvet on the bed. I did find if I closed the bedroom door, the room AC unit was able to overcome the oppressive heat and cool the bedroom to a comfortable (sleeping) temperature.
The main room door had a deadbolt but no chain or bar lock as is customary for hotel rooms. The sliding glass door leading to a nice balcony did not have a functioning lock on it, at all.
There was a hot water pot in the room for boiling water to make instant coffee. It did not work. I plugged it in and turned it on. After 20 or 30 minutes I gave up and unplugged it. The water did not warm at all.
Electrical outlets were relatively scarce and not conveniently located.
The bathroom had what appeared to be clean towels but did not have washcloths (face cloths?). Do people really not use washcloths?
The room had no iron and ironing board. My shirts are all permanent press but after being packed in my suitcase for several days they could use a little ironing.
Breakfast in the restaurant - acceptable. Selection was good and staff was friendly. Could try to figure out a way to keep the hot food items a little warmer.
This hotel was recommended by local co-worker, not for any reason other than convenience for her. It is close to her home and she was picking us up in the morning and driving us to our meeting. Next time we will use ride share or taxi and meet her at customer site.

Price - I would say the price was good but it was too expensive for the experience.

In 2018 I spent more than 150 nights in hotels all around the world. I have seen much. I know what is acceptable to me and what is not. If I had been planning more than one night stay here I would have left and gone elsewhere.

Unless the owners of this hotel make some drastic improvements I will not stay here again and I can not recommend it for anyone else.

This hotel has many occupants who “live” here- doormats are a clue!! We eventually agreed to stay after rejecting 2 executive suites- words cannot begin to describe the appalling state of those first 2 rooms! As previous reviewers state the hotel has a dirty smell about it. Although the desk staff are nice enough they are battling with a hotel that hasn’t had any money spent on it in years. Our final room needed a maintenance man immediately as the air con wouldn’t work and the safe wouldn’t set. (Our second rejected room had a safe that was not affixed and was light enough to walk off with!!) The breakfast was good enough and one member of staff (no name badges) worked very hard. Our evening meal - Brazilian soup and goulash was tasty and plentiful but when we bought a second bottle of wine to take to our room the manager said we couldn’t take the wine glasses with us- how bizarre!! I’m guessing that the good stuff disappears!! However he relented and brought 2 glasses up to our room! Many thanks for realising we really wouldn’t nick two Tesco wine glasses! The pool looks ok but the plastic wicker chairs are falling apart due to lack of investment/maintenance. Despite new owners I’m thinking the investment needed to bring this hotel up to an acceptable level would take years and a fortune. Would not recommend.

Nice view, excellent rooms, fair price. The room can host 4 persons easily, it has table, two televisions, huge locker, sofa, 3 environments, 2 balconies. My only remark is that the breakfast could be cheaper.

Rio de Janeiro and Niteroi are connected by bridge Ponte Presidente Costa e Silva (Ponte Rio-Niterói). The bridge’s length is 13290m. Niteroi is on the other side of Guanabara Bay from Rio de Janeiro.
From Rio to Niteroi reached very easily: ferry, taxi, bus.

We lived in a hotel Mercure Niteroi Orizzonte in February 2013 during Carnival.
Why? Because during Carnival (and peak season) prices for hotels in Rio de Janeiro several times higher than normal value.
So even if every day you will ride by taxi from Niteroi to Rio (Copacabana beach or Sambadrome, for example) and back, it will be much cheaper than to stay in Rio.

The hotel has a small and well-kept grounds, swimming pool and free parking. The beach is nearby. He is decent, but it's better to leave to other beaches of Niteroi, which are more interesting and where infrastructure is developed better.

Modern and large rooms. Very large by the standards of Rio de Janeiro. Rooms have balconies and all necessities including a microwave and refrigerator.
It offers a beautiful view of Rio de Janeiro. Especially at night. Photographers I advise you to take a tripod and telephoto (200mm not enough).

Near the hotel there are not restaurants where you can dine. Small restaurants located within a 10-15 minute walk from the hotel, but there they are closed very early. It makes sense to have dinner at Rio or buy food, cook and dine in the room.
As in many hotels in Brazil not all the staff speaks well in English.
Conclusion. We loved this hotel. I recommend it as an inexpensive alternative to hotels in Rio de Janeiro.

On the advice of a friend who lives in Niteroi, we booked a stay here while attending a wedding. We were told it was the best place to stay in Niteroi. That very well could be true, but this was generally disappointing.

The Good : Great pool area to hang out, great view of the bay & Rio, very relaxing & comfortable setting. Well appointed entrance & front desk. Free & abundant parking (unheard of in Rio & Niteroi , as far as I can tell). A good breakfast buffet at a reasonable price. Safes in the rooms to keep your valuables protected. They had some limited english speaking help at the front desk, which was very helpful as very little english is spoken in Brazil. The views from the rooms are great

The bad : Electrical sockets were falling out of the wall in our room. Another traveler in our group in another room had the electricity go out in their room & had to fix the circuit breaker himself. The internet in the rooms didn't work more ofter than it did work. It usually worked in the lobby, but it didn't always work there either. The sauna & hot tub were either broken or not turned on.

Other : The rooms were adequate - nothing special but clean. Rooms have a stove & fridge, so they are set up for extended stays if you need to do that. Views from the rooms over the bay & over to Rio are great.

Note : When we visited in Sept 2012, the Mercure sign was partially covered up, so it is possible that they may be heading towards some sort of ownership change inn the near future. Hopefully they can clean up some of these issues & it will be a better place to stay,

We couldn't find an Hotel in Rio that was affordable so we went at the Mecure Hotel in Niteroi. It was quiet, but empty. Very few guests. The rooms have been renovated recently but somewhat on the cheap side. Lots of furniture that seems to come from Ikea. Only a double bed, when there's space for a King size one...

There's not much to do around the hotel, and the neighbourhood doesn't seems all that safe. You'll absolutely need a car to go to Rio, you have to cross the Rio-Niteroi bridge (the only bridge) which is almost always with traffic. Outside rush hours, count at least a one hour transit one way.
