Solid room with great value for price but if you’re staying here for the hotel shuttle, choose another hotel. Shuttle service wasn’t reliable on arrival or departure despite calling/coming to front desk to place name on list, despite claim of running every 20 mins in elevator or website. If you have a really early or late flight, don’t rely on this service.

Stay Report - 5/9 to 5/10

Location: The hotel is located on Crystal Drive and 14th Street just east of US 1 in Crystal City  towards the northern end of the hotels located there.  Two blocks away is the Crystal City Metro Station and a number of other restaurants.  Location wise it's very good for needing to be near DCA or to commute into see the sights.

Hotel: The hotel is a bit older but in a good state of repair.  The lobby is small but nice and has an attached restaurant.  The mezzanine has a Starbucks which is open 7 days a week, currently the restaurant is closed Sundays.  Their shuttle is up and running right now which is always a good thing and you can buy beer and wine from the front desk.

Check In: a very friendly agent recognized my Spire status, gave me the welcome amenity points and coupons for a breakfast sandwich and a coffee which came as part of my AAA rate.

Room: A little on the small side and feeling a little old in the CP way.  The bathroom was especially tiny.  Overall though it was fine.  Good soundproofing, no issues with Wifi, comfortable beds.

Overall it's good for DCA stays.  I'd be back.

I want to start this off by saying I never write reviews. before I wrote this review I tried to work with this property multiple times and got absolutely no where. their customer service is poor and they just don't care.

So i booked through a 3rd party and will never do that again because of the process I'm having to go through to get a refund. So I arrive at 11:30pm its late and I'm tired. I get into my hotel room and it smells like smoke and my girlfriend has asthma so she was uncomfortable and the room literally felt like I just booked a room at motel/super 8. (see pictures) the carpet had stains. the vents were dusty. the floor had burns and stains the couch had spills on it. the tub had rust. the entire room just made my skin itch I couldn't even sit. i told the front desk i cant stay here I would like a refund. His name was Willie and he was very rude from the time I checked in to the 10 mins later when i checked out. He didn't care to see why I wanted refund so fast or wanted to leave the property. His only response was " you booked through a 3rd party get the refund from them".

so i contact the 3rd party and they explain to me that he's being difficult and rude to them and lied to them and said the room was clean and didn't smell like smoke( see picture ). she explained to me that she wouldn't be able to give me a full refund because the hotel is refusing to admit that the room is dirty even after seeing pictures. overall they just stopped responding to the complaint.

so i call today just before this review to reach the assistant manager the front desk transferred me to him. i called 3 times but each time the phone kept telling me this extension doesn't exist. So at this point your doing it on purpose.

I'm not sure what's going but this isn't the Crowne plaza as a company that I know. If you cant maintain a property and cater to your guest your in the wrong business the two front desk staff members I've dealt should be replaced I've never been so furious in my life and but if I can save you sometime on where to choose to stay this place isn't it.

Shuttle
Not very reliable for airport pickup. They say that the shuttle is available every 30 minutes during the day but you need to keep calling with details when you are waiting at the airport. The driver seems to be skipping a few trips and not notifying hotel staff. Our wait time was 50-55 minutes.

Cleaning
Cleaning is substandard as the staff skips a lot of items and focus on only basic item - fresh towels. Bed had dead ladybug on it.

Rate
The rate is on par with other hotels in this area, and may be a little higher for the amount of services offered.

Front desk
Staff is not very helpful on several items. When we argued about shuttle problems, they did not admit mistake; rather it was pushed to us saying we must have not waited in one of their designated areas (We did). Free breakfast information was not shared with us at check in. We only knew about it from the website and raised the question when the breakfast attendant wanted to charge us. It was then that he told that coupons are given when you check-in, so we had to go back to front desk to get them.

Room
Decent size room with congested furniture in a small area. There is no notepad/pen or a clock in the room, which are the most common items in any hotel rooms, regardless of rate they charge. There is no microwave in any of the rooms and the only microwave available is in the lobby, which is inconvenient to customers. There is a fridge in the room though...

Overall, this hotel will not get anything more than two stars. Obviously, with continuous traffic in this area, this hotel does enjoy customers on a regular basis. But if they continue to behave this way, there is so much competition that may affect their business sooner or later.

The hotel exterior and lobby is beautiful and the desk staff were boasting about the brand new renovation that had just been completed in their restaurant/bar but, first huge gap: This is an IHG hotel and I am a gold member. I was not offered any free bottled water upon checkin, which in Canada is offered to every member upon check in. I ended up having to buy 2 bottles from their canteen as their also is none in their rooms.

When I opened the door to my room, I was hit with the over powering smell of room deodorizer! I don’t know what they were trying to clean up or if this is regular practice but, in a day and age of extreme fragrance policies in businesses and public places, I am shocked that they would still use this type of a product. I still can smell that deodorizer with the pounding headache!

I booked a room here, as I do every year. I have had minor problems in the past, and one really great over the top experience. However my most recent stay on Saturday is making me question whether or not I will ever stay here again. I dropped off my rental car at the airport. At 1134 pm, I made my first call to the airport about a shuttle pickup. I was told the shuttle was on it's way. I called again at 1147 pm and was told the same. I called back at 1205 am again it is on it's way. Finally, at 1226 am I was told the driver went home at 1130 pm and I would have to take an Uber or Taxi to the hotel and the hotel would pay for it! THERE WAS NO TAXI IN SITE. I was able to get an Uber, I told the front desk clerk the cost of the Uber (18.45) he refunded me 10 and told me to take 2 bottles of water. I contacted customer care the next business day, only to be told on their website that it clearly states the shuttle stops at 1130 pm. They would create a case and forward to management. I have stayed at this property many times in the past and I am an IHG Gold Member. I feel insulted, not only by what happened but I how I was treated!

So according to the hotel website their shuttle bus stops at DCA every 20 minutes. I rush out of the hotel to make it so I don’t have to freeze and make it to the correct area with a few minutes to spare. I see the shuttle bus come and go. It doesn’t even slow down. I immediately call the hotel and they refuse to have the driver simply loop around to pick me up.

We had a quick overnight stay because of a flight connection. Lots of problems here.
It's not that the staff is rude, they just don't want to be at work. Questions at the front desk are answered with one word and no eye contact. There is no bar soap in the room. When you call to ask for some it takes two hours to arrive, and then you get 6 bars. Bar soap is cheap - why not just leave a bar in the room for people that want it? If it's not used, it stays for the next guest and you don't have to bring up 6 bars.

The bathrooms are incredibly tiny. You can't close the door if someone is sitting on the toilet. The liquid soap dispenser is inconveniently located on the other side of the vanity from the sink (see photo). There is only one 110V outlet on the side of the bed, on the lamp base - no USB jacks. Rooms are basically clean, until you look behind the night stand and bed frame and see old potato chips, toothpicks, etc. Only one elevator of three was working both in the evening and the morning, so we missed the original morning airport shuttle we wanted to take. A room just off the elevator on the 10th floor was smoking weed at 2am and the smell traveled down the elevator shaft to us on the 8th floor. When it woke us up I called down to the front desk, but they said they wouldn't be able to verify where it came from so they couldn't do anything about it. Sure you can. You can knock on the door of the room where the light is on and the smell is coming from and ask them to stop. Your employees just didn't want to deal with it. Several other guests were also woken up by this and were talking about it on the one elevator ride down the next morning.

No way would we come back here - sorry. There are too many other good hotels in Crystal City where the employees care more.

Me and my boyfriend missed our connecting flight due to the irresponsibility of American Airlines. They advised us we would be staying at the Crowne Plaza for a night, to catch the first flight out to NYC. After an upsetting night, we arrived at the Crowne Plaza at approximately 11:30 pm. The Guest Service Agents were not at all welcoming. They were dry and with an impassive looks on their faces. I chose to bypass that since we had a long night. We were checked into room 718. As we tried to get settled in for the few hours we had before our early morning flight, we attempted to turn on the tv. It was nonfunctional. We called the front desk. There was no greeting. I was asked what was wrong with the tv. The young woman responded by saying someone would be on their way up, and NO ONE arrived. At our check out, the man behind the front desk didn’t say a word to us. All he did was whip out a clear box and gestured to place the keys inside. There was no thank you, did not ask us how our stay was …. Absolutely nothing!

I work in a hotel myself as a HR Manager. This is disgusting and unacceptable! Staff should be friendly, engaging, warm and welcoming at any time of the day. It is common for people to be inconvenienced and displaced during their travels. When arriving at a hotel they should be made to feel welcomed and cared for. I refuse to be believe guests voluntarily pay money to stay at this establishment. I do not recommend this hotel to anyone. This first impression is forever lasting one.

As other answers this hotel is in crystal city. I never get a car when I visit. Metro is easy and no parking. Also, Lyft is very fast, reliable, and cheap in the area.
