This was our first trip during the pandemic and were not sure what to expect. Wow were we in for a surprise. The employees were absolutely amazing! Even though the staff was greatly reduced, their dedication and appreciation for their job and for us being there was more than obvious. The guides were incredibly knowledgeable, the waiters were so attentive, and Alma who did everything from picking us up at the airport, to opening/selling at the gift shop, to waiting on us at the restaurant was wonderful. We were truly spoiled during our stay. It is definitely a different kind of trip. This is truly an eco lodge in the middle of the jungle. There is NO internet, which was wonderful! We were able to connect with nature and with each other. Electricity is shut off a few hours at a time. You will know exact times when you arrive at the lodge. Getting to/from the lodge to the city is by boat only. Getting from the boat to the actual lodge is an adventure in itself. The staff will carry all your staff for you and help you get in/out of the boat but remember you ARE in the middle of the jungle. There are no real stairs but rather wooden boards that serve as stairs. Do wear light but long sleeve clothes to avoid mosquito bites. The lodge did think of everything though ! They give you citronella - for the bugs; a free stainless steel water bottle per person, as well as bottled water; flashlights (I was blown away by this! So thoughtful. However you need to Remember to charge them at night); umbrellas (they are all over the lodge). My only complaint would be that you cannot pay at the gift shop but have to pay at the port the day that you leave, which is kind of inconvenient. Food was good though not great. Meals were included and there was a fixed daily menu. The staff is more than happy to accommodate though. We were able switch some items for the kids for example and for my mom who has some dietary restrictions. As far the excursions, they are all included as well. We loved all of them, especially the ones at night time and our absolute favorite was the Reserva Tambopata. Wow!!! I cannot believe we had our OWN guide most times too (due to Covid) Hugo was the best. There is plenty of time to rest so bring a good book! They have board games like Monopoly but I wish we would’ve brought our own. In general, my children were blown away by this experience and I’m so grateful to the staff for all their hard work. I hope we get to comeback one day.

Spent three nights here and had the most amazing time. The accommodation is lovely and rustic but extremely comfortable and having netted windows allowed you really experience the night noises and birds singing in the early morning. Food was great and the staff wonderful. The excursions were well worked out and David our guide was fantastic with wonderful knowledge of everything the rain forest had to offer. We also went piranha fishing which we then ate for lunch which was an added bonus

My husband and I had a wonderful time at Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica. The accommodations at the ecolodge were very comfortable, clean and everything was well tended. We stayed in cabana 28 and it was by far one of the best spots as we looked out over the river. It was also towards the back so we enjoyed more privacy than some of the other cabanas. The resort does a nice job with keeping things comfortable for guests including offering mosquito nets, fan, insect repellant, flip flops, robes, water bottles and a secure drawer. Each cabana also had two hammocks set up in the front of the unit.
The food was good and plentiful- the resort offers buffet for breakfast and a la carte options for lunch and dinner. Some of our favorite meals were the mango salad with chicken, chicken sandwich, and chaufa fried rice. There were also delicious juices, breads, soups and desserts. We were full after each meal. The happy hour was also great and allowed us to meet others from our tour group. The staff worked really hard to offer top notch service and all were pleasant.
We enjoyed all of the tours and our favorites were: the trip to Lake Sandoval, the night cruise and the canopy bridges. Pedro was our guide and he did a nice job in engaging with our group. We were fortunate to see so much wildlife in our outings including: monkeys, boa, caimans, macaws, exotic birds, etc. we learned that Inkaterra is doing a lot to preserve this area and protect it from deforestation.
Please keep in mind that this is the jungle and that is part of the experience - you will encounter bugs, wildlife and no air conditioning. There is also no internet, wifi and electricity is scaled back during preset times (unfortunately, not all guests have grasped this and expect full service in a remote location).
In summary, it was a wonderful experience as we did our homework and knew what to expect. It was also nice being away in the rainforest, meeting other guests, and being immersed in the Amazon experience. We would highly recommend this ecolodge for anyone interested in experiencing the Amazon jungle in a luxurious setting.

My friends and i are stranded here im a real life Amazonian horror movie at cabin 13. This place is a nightmare. We reserved Inkaterra Hacienda months ago, a newer facility with wifi. Once we landed in puerto maldonado and got on the river boat, they took us to this backwater hote instead, saying they closed our original hotel last night to “save money”.
On arrival they let us know there’s no wifi or cell reception at this new location—not giving us the chance to tell our loved ones in advance that we’d be off the grid
Currently writing this review after begging for access to the staff wifi, Wifi which the on-site manager Tony told us “does not exist” upon our arrival on Jan 3rd.
The facility itself is run down with big holes in the netting of the cabins, last night had to deal with a shiny 8 in beetle in my room at night, just at the time that they turn off electricity :) so trying to catch it in the dark by cell phone light
All in all a horrible experience so far. All the guests have similar horror stories this week, and are totally shocked at being re-routed to this location without consent as a cost saving measure masquerading as an “upgrade”
Trying to leave early if we can get a flight out of puerto maldonado
Avoid this place if at all possible!!!

We were planning to go visit Peru in June 2020. We had booked and paid in full at Inkaterra Reserva. When coronavirus hit, we obviously had to cancel all our travels. According to Inkaterra's terms and conditions, cancellations done 31 days prior to arrive date will receive a full refund. We have provided a written notice of cancellation on 14th of March. (More than 31 days prior to our arrival day). However, inkatera's management insists on not refunding our money back. We made it very clear that we no longer plan to come to peru in future dates, but they continue to try to force us to plan to visit in a future date, saying that they no longer provide refunds.
Important to note that all the other hotels we had booked in Peru have refunded us fully.
Written notice of cancellation is required. A full refund will apply to cancellations received until thirty one (31) days prior to arrival date. Refund process may take between thirty to sixty days to be completed. If the deadline date is a weekend or holiday, cancellations must be made previously.

The way to Inkaterra Amazonia Lodge is by boat. We think that's how all of their supplies come in. We spent three nights and two full days for excursions there in November, just the beginning of the "rainy season." The accommodations are in cabanas, with screen around and mosquito netting over the beds. Individual bathrooms in each unit. The screened "porch" area in the front is a great place to rest between excursions. The lodge assigns "excursion guides" to help you plan excursions and then take you on them. We were a group of two. But groups of 10 or more were also there and they handled it with precision. We had trips up the river at night to see wildlife, to local lakes for wildlife, and to a farm which provides some of the produce for the lodge. Since wildlife don't follow our human "sleep-in" routines, we had to get up one morning at 5, and have a brief breakfast before heading out, but there was always time to relax in the middle of the day. The food was very good, considering that they have to bring everything in. Electricity goes out for a few hours in the afternoon and some hours overnight, but it's manageable.

Me, my husband, my daughter and her fiance spent 17 days in South America (our first trip) in May. Five of those days were at Inkaterra and it was one of the favorite parts of a our trip. We enjoyed the boat ride from Peurto Maldonado to the resort. The resort and individual cabanas were nice and clean. We liked the mosquito netting around the bed as well as the hammocks. Although the resort is very remote with limited electricity (generators ran at certain times during the day) and no wifi it was not an issue at all for us. There were plenty of varied excursions which we thoroughly enjoyed (the canopy walk and some of the boat excursions being our favorites) and the guides were extremely welcoming, knowledgeable and helpful. Although the food choices were limited we enjoyed what was served. As expected there are a lot of bugs in the Amazon; however, I had treated our clothes with bug spray before leaving home and had also brought a rub on bug lotion with 20% deet in it so that combined with long sleeves protected us from most bug bites. However, the humidity is another issue altogether. Be prepared to SWEAT. LOL Overall we had an excellent time at Inkaterra and would not hesitate to return. Note about tipping - we weren't sure how the tipping was supposed to work as we had been told there would be a tip box. However, during our stay that was not the case. At the end of our stay before we were transported back to Peurto Maldonado we were given a survey form to complete and a tipping envelope was provided where we could designate any tips we wanted to leave for the staff.

We stayed here for 3 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our time, but it is important to recognize that this is not your typical luxury resort. There is NO air-conditioning or windows, and the temperature is often over 90 F. There are screens on the windows, but bugs still get in. We had to ask the staff to get a large wasp and a frog out of our cabin, but they were very happy to do so. The beds are comfortable and the showers are great! It is nice to have 2 sinks in the bathroom, and the hammocks on the front porch are fun to relax in. Downsides to the room is that the huts are so close to one another that you can hear other people taking a shower and flushing the toilet, along with any loud conversations. It would not be a good place for a romantic get-away, because everyone would hear what you are doing. Also, the birds wake you up at 5 am each morning, but this is fine, because many of the excursions start very early. Another thing that is difficult to get used to is they turn off the electricity several times a day to conserve energy. Again, this is good, but sometimes difficult when you are hoping to use the overhead fan.
On the positive side, the excursions with the guides are incredible. We saw so many animals and birds — caymans, piranhas, macaws, monkeys, tarantulas, etc. Also the food in the main dining room is very good. They serve a large buffet breakfast, and then a 3 course lunch and 3 course dinner. You will not go hungry. Many of the meals are beautifully presented, and are locally specialities that taste delicious. You have to pay for drinks, but the prices seem fair. We also had a very nice massage at the spa one afternoon. We loved our time here, and it was nice to have no Internet for 3 days, but I think it is important that people know what it is like to stay here. There were some guests that were not happy with the heat and noise, so they left early. This is more like exotic luxury camping.

We had a two-night stay at this lodge. Hotel is nicely decorated and the local staff worked really hard to make our stay a pleasant one and to compensate for certain hotel management issues. We were not informed beforehand -nor is it stated anywhere on their website - that power shuts off at 10pm, as well as periodically during the day. You couldn’t find a spot anywhere to take a reprieve from the heat during the day as fans shut off in main hall for hours. You have to rush thru dinner to make it back in time to your cabin to shower before lights go off. I think this vital information should be provided when potential guests are making travel plans to this area in 94 degree weather. Website should be transparent so guests are mentally prepared and better equipped on what to expect during their stay. They should also consider leaving just enough power in the cabins to keep the fans going throughout the night. It would make a huge difference in the guest satisfaction. Other guests felt the same. They also had a shortage of food, beverage (sodas), alcohol provisions, as well as a low staff. The staff was very apologetic, and almost embarrassed about the situation. Obviously this is an upper management/corporate problem. Tours and tour guides were nice, but we really didn’t see much wildlife. A few management changes can make this lodge a better experience for their guests. Two nights was more than enough time to scratch it off my bucket list, and don’t foresee returning.

Visited for 3 nights with my family. We had 3 rooms and strangely they gave my husband and I the worst room out of the 3 which in fact was the worst room in the entire lodge. Room 1 is super un private and noisy as each guest walks past your room numerous times per day. After taking my issue up with my host she acknowledged this was true and luckily there was 1 free room elsewhere which we moved to after dinner. Inconvenient to pack up and move but very much worth it. Hard to sum up this resort. From the photos I was expecting it to be a bit more upscale however I kept reminding myself that we were deep in the amazon and it was actually quite incredible. Sadly it rained most of the tome as it was the rainy season so things felt damp all the time and being an eco lodge they didn’t change your towels unless I asked myself. My linen was not changed at all even though it did get dirty and also felt damp. The common areas in the restaurant could definitely be improved, carpets were stained and full of crumbs. Overall the service in the restaurant was most good and the food was good too. Guides were wonderful and my host was very helpful however never really saw any senior management. Spoke to someone who I think was resort manager however he was unsmiling and not to approachable. Small massage spa which was actually outstanding. If you going try fit one in. Overall I really enjoyed the Amazon, awesome experience and considering the location and proximity to the town they did well indeed.

Funny you should mention that!!!!! Actually a trip to China in SEPTEMBER 2020, fully paid for when booked at the end of December 2019.....No time frame but $300 penalty "plus any charges from the server"....UNSTIPULATED. Found out when my receipt came I was only required to pay a deposit and remainder at the end of MAY. They have offered 50%. I have threatened to put it to The Department of Fair Trading and also will probably send it to ACCC. In your case, they are in breach of their own 'terms & conditions' if you have read it correctly, and have a LEGAL obligation to reimburse you.
No the twin beds are not doubles. We were there in July 2019. We had two jungle view cabins. Our two young adult children had a twin which was in the row behind ours. The rooms are not physically connected, have no telephones and no mobile phone coverage. You are advised to only stick to the paths between cabins particularly at night. You would need to be comfortable with your children being on their own. Saying that we loved the place and had a fantastic time.
There are more places to choose from in the Puerto Maldonado area.
