My wife and I stayed at Sherwood’s for our customary two weeks on February. We eat several meals here and love the beachfront experience.

Remember that Tela is a third world city so things like elevators and in room telephones are not normal. The food is always good and the hotel is always very clean. You cannot drink the water but there are pure water coolers on the two floors.

The views from the fourth floor are wonderful- both of the ocean and the town.

One important aspect is that the owner is frequently at the hotel and he speaks fluent English. The rest of the staff, not so much.

I always look forward to my two weeks at Sherwood’s.

Sherwood’s is a beach front hotel 2 blocks from the Main Street in Tela.
The rooms are very clean and there is daily maid service. Front rooms on the second floor have balconies looking out at the Caribbean and third floor front rooms have extensive views. They don’t have balconies but are larger.
Nighttime at the Tela waterfront can be noisy, especially on weekends but all noise ends at 10 PM.
Sherwood’s has a veranda restaurant that serves a variety of sandwiches and local fare. Their crevice is especially good.
Remember that in Tela, you are in the heart of the third world so expectations should be adjusted accordingly.

Sherwood’s is right on the Caribbean with a couple hundred feet of beach frontage. If it was not for the staff, this would earn less stars from me. The relentless sun, humidity, wind, rain and salt air take a toll.
There is a fair amount of mold but all outdoors. The rooms are clean. Tap water is undrinkable but that is true all over Tela. Make sure you don’t even lick your lips during a shower. I keep my mouth shut and then rinse with Listerine.
Sherwood’s restaurant is good but quite slow. It’s that way in most restaurants. Sherwood’s Crevice is outstanding.
The hotel is located at the top of a strip with hotels and restaurants hat run for a city block.
The staff is wonderful with Sherwood and Pedrina leading the way.

For its price you'd expect quality service, salubrious location, great food, etc... but no. Everything is as it looks like; in desperate need to be closed for good.

With what can I begin with...
The beach. THEY DO NOT HAVE A BEACH OF THEIR OWN, is a public one; which means there's no security, there's trash and filth everywhere...

The food. Poor & overpriced; not much to choose from and you don't get what you expect after paying a lot of money.

Hotel conditions. There is filth EVERYWHERE you can imagine; from the old wrecked furniture, bathrooms, bedrooms, flooring, restaurant, pool area... everywhere.

Service. Staff had the worst presentation ever; totally underdressed, bad hygiene, really bad attitude. An employee from any Burger King has better presentation than any member of the hotel staff.

Security. The only and last night I stayed there, a group of American guests were robbed in the hotel; they had a few things missing from their room.

Totally not coming back. A total scam. It makes you feel that you are in a cheap down-the-road hostel even after paying that overpriced rates.
I was disgusted and couldnt handle it anymore, so after staying a single night, I decided to move to Indura Beach Resort... though i payed more ($250 p/night) I feel that was the best decision ever.

We put all our things in room went down stairs to eat. We returned to the room,to find more than $2000 worth of items were missing, including our vacation money, new smart phone, gold chains, mexico money even a bag of cloths It had to be the hotel staff.
We reported the lost to Mr Sheerwood (the owner) He took our email and gave his. Told us he would contact us in 3 days
He would not answer emails.
We have now been told this has happened before. You are at risk there
Do not try your luck, there are many better hotels nearby.
Also the place is overpriced old and dirty

The location of this hotel is great, just off the beach. However, the rooms are in need of serious refurbishment. The bathroom was an unpleasant experience with the bathtub dirty. It was expensive too at $70 so we moved to another hotel after one night, which was not only cheaper but so much better!

We ended up here as we were arriving in Tela a day earlier and our booked hotel was full. A travel agent in Tela got us a room at the last minute at an extortinate price. The hotel is mid way through a refurb by the looks of things - new aircon in the rooms, nice terrace restaurant, new tvs - but no real indication of it continuing. They should have started with the basics - the plastic/enamel was peeling off the bath, the bamboo blinds didn't fit the windows and let in lots of light. The place didn't feel secure as anyone could walk in and the rooms didn't have v good locks. The only positive is the view of the beach/ocean from the room but we didn;t want to spend any time in the room so didn't get the benefit. Would not recommend this place to anyone

We were at the Hotel Sherwood from 8/10 to 8/15, 2013, and we had a wonderful time. The food was great, the staff was excellent and always ready to serve. The hotel is safe and a short walk from any place downtown. It is right on the beach, unlike other Tela hotels that claim to be but are eight to ten blocks away, and affords a beautiful view of all of the beach activities. Both the owner and the manager were always available, helpful and approachable. Our stay was enjoyable and we plan to return in about two months. This hotel is truly one of the best in Tela.

I've been staying at the Hotel Sherwood each year for the past ten years and I have no complaints. It is located on the beach and from there it just a short walk to anywhere in town. The staff is friendly, helpful and honest. I am from Tela I have stayed at most of the better hotels there, but I look forward to going to Sherwood each year for the convenience and the great atmosphere.

I just finished a wonderful weeklong stay with a group of nurses and physicians working in Tela. Sherwood and his family and staff treated us like we were guests in their own home, feeding us fabulous food (lots of it!), and coming up with different ways to make our stay more pleasant. The hotel and restaurant is right on the beautiful beach, with absolutely spectacular sunsets. The bathrooms are beautiful and have all been recently remodeled with beautiful tiles and new fixtures. The hotel is very clean, which is a huge plus. Overall, I heartily recommend this hotel and restaurant - if you go, tell Sherwood I said hello!!
