Casa Malca, nestled on a beautiful beach, garners mixed reviews for its somewhat remote location but is celebrated for its serene ambiance. Its eclectic and artistic flair enchers the atmosphere, with the elegant and spacious rooms offering both comfort and privacy. Guests have lauded its cleanliness and unique amenities, such as the art-adorned underground pool, although some note photography restrictions and limited pool access. Despite the high praise for the hotel's service, the value proposition has been questioned, with some deeming the prices for various services steep.

It was such a treat staying here for the day-access privileges after a long day of biking. We had biked from our hotel in 'downtown' Tulum, to the Tulum Ruins, and then to this hotel....which is quite a distance (not to mention back to the hotel). So the luxury respite was welcomed.

We had seen a hotel along the Paradise beach that wanted $1000MXN/person just to use their beach day-beds....it was not luxurious and the money did not include food purchases. With Casa Malca, you're paying $1000MXN/person, and it go towards menu items.

When you enter Casa Malca (from the road access), Reception staff is there and ready to explain the cost and what's included. They were so polite, courteous, and very transparent.

And the beach staff were extremely pleasant and kind with us. The beach beds were luxurious, the staff friendly, and the surroundings luxurious. Day access included beach towels (no extra cost), washroom access (and it was swanky in there too), swimming pool access, Wi-fi access, and freedom to explore the sculpture art on the grounds (which was fun and entertaining).

It is a bit tricky to find when travelling along the roadway. We passed it, and had to ask locals about the location, twice. I don't think it was labelled from the roadway access...if it was, then it was subtle.

The Pablo Escobar connection makes this place interesting as well, although there is no posted information there that I could see. From what I have heard, there is a large underground complex beneath this and the adjacent hotel built for Pablo. It is not open to the public, but it sounds like it could be sometime in the distant future.

I would not hesitate to visit this place again should we come back to Tulum.

We stayed for 2 nights in Casa Malca hotel and we selected this hotel among other good available hotels options in Tulum because of its luxury, contemporary ambience and exclusive artistic style which we loved the most. Unfortunately, I regret my stay upon arrival as the hotel is too much packed with non-residential people who have the access to the beach club and overload the service and occupy all spots that we want to enjoy with photo shooting sessions. We were so much distracted and could not have any special privilege for being a residence. Moreover, we requested the hotel to arrange for take-away breakfast pack for the first day because of our early morning tour, and such request was too poor in term of communication and preparing which show us the service difference between other hotels in the same level. The staff in the reception were very professional and we acknowledge their help to change the room to our preference category as mentioned in our original booking. However, the staff at the restaurant were not up to the expected level. In nutshell, the hotel setup is beautiful but the distractions are not affordable and there are many other hotel choices to make in Tulum.

This place will forever hold a place in my heart because this is where my now fiance proposed to me. Everything in Tulum is so beautiful and Casa Malca takes it to another level. From the different restaurants to the beautiful beaches and not to mention the art decor! WOW! We had a scheduled a photo shoot in Tulum and every place was going to charge us ridiculous prices to bring photographers. Also the communication when trying to book from the states was terrible but Casa Malca was so easy and provide excellent service. We wished we did our entire shoot just at Casa Malca instead of just the proposal because the place has so many IG famous places to take it at. Bianca help set up everything for my fiance and was so amazing to us. Our waiter Melvin went above and beyond took us on a tour after dinner around the place and took pictures for us. They even offered us the opportunity to come back for beach club the next day and another host gave us another tour and also offered to take our photos for us at each location.

They take service to another level and I am so grateful to the staff and everyone their for making a forever memory of a magical night I will never forget.

There's very little I liked about Casa Malca so I'll start with the good stuff. The room was spacious and nice, the shower room was very nice and the couch & bed in my jungle suite were super! The blinds worked and blacked out the room which is important as the window is huge.
I had booked a jungle suite for 4 nights around NYE with a complimentary yoga class and their concierge, sadly his name eludes me (young man, lovely service-mindedness,) went above and beyond providing me with his own personal laptop plug for my stay so I could charge my laptop as I hadn't brought an adaptor. That is amazing service. He also made sure I got a really, really amazing personal Mindfulness class in my room with Mila and I loved every minute of it.
The decor and art at Casa Malca was nice and interesting the layout good, a bit too far from the sea for my personal taste but not a huge problem.
The big issues were logistics at dinner/breakfast and at the beach club. There were so many issues I can't even list them, but no one seemed to know what they were doing, there were not enough space for in-house guests to stay on sunbeds, not enough umbrellas if you were lucky enough to get a sunbed (having to get up early and reserve it,) and all meals were a serious disaster when it came to the quality of the food, the communication around the food and I'm afraid at this level, all of this is inexcusable. I was left waiting at dinner for an hour with no food after ordering, I asked several staff where my order was and was just given the run around.
Casa Malca seemed to be completely overwhelmed, understaffed, having very serious communication/logistical issues. To not have enough sun beds or umbrellas when you pay several hundred dollars a night to stay there during top season is ridiculous. To let your guests wait for dinner for over an hour and no one taking ownership when said guest enquires about their order, tells me this resort isn't about providing a good experience for their guests, it's about milking the most out of their guests instead. There are tons of other places to stay in Tulum. Casa Malca is now the last on my list for a revisit I'm afraid. Not reccommended.

Hola, Travelbird0505. We truly appreciate you took the time to write a very detailed review about your last stay in Casa Malca. We are delighted to know that your Garden View Suite was super and hat our Concierge ensured an amazing service during your stay and a unique experience along with Mila, our Yoga Instructor! On the other hand, as you mentioned, our top season is NYE, therefore, we experience a higher volume of guests and visitors during this period of time. However, we will definitely consider your comments in order to improve our service. Best regards,

Don’t waste your time coming here if you aren’t staying on the actual hotel property. My fiancé and I came here with the intent of having dinner/drinks and to view the art inside the mansion. The last blog post I read on this place said the cover charge was about $23USD but could be applied to food/bev credit-no problem. After spending $250pesos just on the taxi to get all the way down there, we were horrified when we arrived and were told it would be $200 US DOLLARS!!just to get in and that didn’t even include the two MAIN sights (the hanging wedding dress couch & the chandelier bar). Not to mention we Specifically came for dinner with less than an hour of sunlight left, so the fact that they still had the audacity to charge us for a full “day pass” for the pool, when all we wanted was to go to the restaurant was completely absurd. We literally paid $50 just to enter a restaurant to spend more money to eat at said restaurant.

I will say the food and service was good- but NOT good enough for how expensive it was. Also service/gratuity is NOT included whatsoever and then after dinner the waiter told us he can only accept cash tips...?? Neither of us had any cash left after spending it all just to get in, so we had to take a taxi to an ATM, then come back and tip our waiter... completely crazy and inconvenient that an establishment of this stature doesn’t even allow credit credit card tips?!

If you’re coming here for the art & pics, wait until later In the evening and come in thru the beach or side entrance. Or, better yet just don’t come at all. The fact that they charge SO much and don’t even let you see the two main attractions is honestly vile. Casa Malca sounds like it’s completely gone downhill compared to what I read about its previous days, and was by far the biggest tourist trap, waste of money, and overall disappointment of our entire trip.

This may sound a bit clichè, but I'm not one to ever go out of my way to leave a bad review. In this instance, I feel like it is completed warranted and necessary. Let me start off by saying the property is aesthetically beautiful, the staff was very outgoing and tentative, and the food was above average. The problem with this hotel lies with whomever oversees executive financial decisions. This past weekend Tulum was hit with a small tropical storm and this is when our nightmare began. Shortly after it started to rain, our room's ceiling and walls began to let in water at quite a drastic rate. So much water was coming into our room that it shorted all of the electical wires in the walls and ceiling. We were without electricity (no lights, no power, no air conditioning) for 24 hours. I had to set our garbage cans and towels all over the room to try to catch all the water coming in. Not to mention we woke up to our bathroom being flooded! We went to the front desk 3 times, we waited nearly 24 hours for someone to correct the issues. Now why does a "high end" boutique hotel rent out rooms that literally have water pouring into them? Seems like the hotel doesn't want to spend the money to fix their roof issues and its completely unacceptable to subject guests to that while they are on "vacation". This was far from an enjoyable vacation for us. I get that you can't control mother nature, but I also don't think anyone should ever get woken up by the sound of dripping water. You'd think they'd atleast offer us a drink in response? Nope! Would I ever stay at Casa Malca again? HARD NO! Would I ever reccomend that you stay there? ABSOLUTLY NOT!

Dear Adam, Thank you for taking the time and give us your feedback. We appreciate your kind words regarding our design, staff and gastronomy. Gladly no bigger damages to human life was caused but we did have a few operational damages. We apologize for the inconvenient and hope you can stay with us again in the future so we can provide you with a magical experience. Kindest regards,

I spent a weekend in February at Casa Malca with my wife and daughter. We booked a Beach Front Master Suite with Terrace for approximately $ 1,750 per night, excluding taxes. We were keen on the terrace because my wife has a hateful habit of smoking. The hotel corresponds to the description given on the site. The place is a small museum of modern art, and the beach is promising. The catering is of an excellent standard and the staff really helpful. On the other hand, room 112 that we were allocated was the only one with no balcony or terrace. That's not all! You should know about Casa Malca that the hotel also works with generators that supply it with power. The Beach Front Master Suite 112 is located very closed to one of these generators. We didn't find sleep the first night. I reported this issue to the manager. The following night, the generator was therefore cut from 10:00 pm to 7:00 am.
No terrace, impossible to sleep, and a bill of over $ 5,000 for two nights, including food. I asked the manager for compensation, at least for the first night, he listened and sympathized a lot… But as a result… Nothing!
In conclusion, I would say about the Casa Malca that it is a very charming hotel in appearance, but once said that, it is preferable for the same price, to sleep elsewhere!

Have you ever seen those pictures in magazines or ads where the beach looks perfect the waves look perfect the sand is white and looks soft to the touch? This place is it! Casa Malca is a gem. We found this site picturesque. This was an old mansion belonging to Pablo Escobar and it is now a boutique hotel. The service is phenomenal. The daybeds don’t require umbrellas as there are palm trees that give you partial shade from the sun. It ain’t cheap but it’s well worth it. Travel here and you will remember it for a lifetime.

Traveled to Tulum to decide where to have our wedding. Walked up to the hotel to have a bite to eat and possibly meet the event coordinator. Right from the start the hostess was very rude and obviously upset at our questions regarding the resort. She kept continuously mentioning the $50/person cover to eat at the restaurant when what we were inquiring about was seeing the resort and speaking to someone about events at hotel.

If hotel can’t properly train staff on hospitality/how to greet guests then it definitely does not deserve our patronage. Maybe it was the way we were dressed?
Next time I decide to go with my hiking backpack I’ll make sure to stamp my Black AMEX card to my forehead. I’m sure she won’t be trained on what that is either.
Went to AZULIK and got a Nest with an incredible view instead- highly recommend Kin Toh restaurant to anyone in Tulum looking for luxury/great customer service.

The Restaurant staff is not good. Everybody looks scared and i felt scared. We told we wanted 3 plates of fruit, they bringed 5! We asked for a toast, they bringed scrambled eggs. We asked for orange juice they gave us tea and we said that my son asked for Orange juice not tea, they bringed out milk for the tea and said go work with it. He was very scared because he wanted to complain abt it but he was scared to tell them the thing he wanted because they would scream. We also found bed bugs in Room 327, and one of the cleaners of the room woke our baby up and started talking with him. We then got a fine for my wife screming at her for waking up the baby and we left and found a better place. This is so overrated and the staff should get better and learn. We are never coming back to CASAMALCA ever again.

We just did brunch pass. If you go to the hostess outside the restaurant they will direct u where to purchase. We bought the one that was around $220 or so and that’s your minimum spend for brunch, you can use the remainder if any at their bar in the evening. I highly recommend the brunch it was worth it. They have more expensive ones for a day pass to use the beach beds etc but we didn’t get that
