Monteverdi Tuscany is a luxury hilltop hotel surrounded by the Val d'Orcia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is centrally located 2 hours from Rome and 90 minutes from Florence. In 2023, Monteverdi unveiled new rooms and suites, a meeting and retreat center, and a new Spa & Wellness Center with a distinctive approach that blends ancient beauty rituals and time-tested luxury beauty products with modern treatments and therapies. The property has a range of culinary options: a casual dining restaurant that celebrates tradition Tuscan flavors with modern interpretations, a stunning Lounge & Terrace Bar with sweeping views of Tuscany and a Library Bar. Guests can also take part in hands-on classes and chef's table experiences at the Culinary Academy. A forthcoming fine dining concept, Oreade, opens in Spring 2025. Monteverdi also offers an art gallery with exhibitions from leading international artists and a concert series performed by renowned musicians and vocalists.

My husband and I were very excited to stay at Monteverdi Tuscany. The idea of a village turned into a spectacular hotel intrigued us. The drive to the hotel is interesting. There is a stretch of gravel road to get the the hotel. Once you are parked the grounds are extensive and beautiful. We were given a tour and shown to our room. The staff are very kind and helpful. We chose a village room (#5). It was average in size with a king size bed. From the web site the rooms look quite a bit larger and for the luxury price the room was a bit of a surprise in its simplicity. Our bathroom had a serious issue. The rainfall shower head is positioned in a way that floods the bathroom floor regardless of how hard you try to avoid it. The sink is a designers dream, but difficult to use since there is no ledge around it.

The breakfast was first rate and the two meals we had at Oreade were exceptional. Everything in the restaurant is well-thought out and beautifully served. The sommelier was very good and helped us pick a couple of wonderful glasses to pair with our meal. The Spa is very nice with interesting water options on the circuit and felt very relaxing before the excellent couples massages. The appetizers served with cocktails in the bar were also excellent--cheese puffs, crackers with chicken liver pate, and vegetable crisps. Given the luxury prices my advice is to spend a bit more for a nicer room. The village room fell short of our expectations.

I could not find a direct link for the restaruant but could not let it go without review. We traveled there from cortona for lunch nd it was the best exeprience we had.
I’ve spoken about thse forces of natures and Simone was the most memorable Somme ever. Opinionated in that loving Italian way. He was our guide and our nanny - scolding us if we were being obviously pedestrian or over complciating things. Like when our firend wanted to mix balsamic with olive oil for bread dipping simpling saying “For me? No.” He was thrilled when I ordered the Nativi Wines - not because it was expensive - in fact was among the most affordable but because he was from there and the wines represented history.
the steak was to die for.
Delicious Fried artichokes
Ham Nero Etruscan
Tartare
Nativi wines
Delicious olive oil
It is must tript o take.

We had the most wonderful time at Monteverdi Tuscany! Between the food, service (oh the service!), spa, pool, and views, we were so overwhelmed with joy that we almost shed tears. Be sure to order just about everything off the menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner, get a massage, and chop it up with their incredible bartender and sommelier. If you need anything, the concierge will go above and beyond to help you. We miss it so much and think about our experience often! We’ll definitely be back.

We had an absolutely magical stay at Monteverdi.
We were blown away by the fairytale rural village on the top of the hill, meticulously restored, with breathtaking views of the Val d’Orcia. We took walks around the property every morning, every time discovering new picturesque paintable corners with abundance of natural beauty and serenity that we couldn’t get enough of.
This unique property offers more than one could expect from a resort: we found an archeological site, the old church converted to an intimate concert hall, and a small well curated art gallery.
Our suite was an example of modern comfort.
The spa is top notch, it shouldn’t be missed.
But mostly we were impressed by the incredible people and outstanding service! I would rather call it treatment instead of service.
I would like to thank Massimiliano and Massimo, the caring and patient managers, Jorge and Noa - our kindest servers, unfortunately I didn’t catch other servers' names, and Giancarlo for the delicious dinners and the cooking class. Sabrina who helped at the shop, Costanza and Sam at the flower lab, Marco at the SPA and many other wonderful people who took care of us. We plan to come back as a couple and with our family soon.

I've been fortunate to have stayed at many wonderful hotel and resorts over the past couple decades but it's rare when one stands out as exceptional, and does so on so many fronts. Monteverdi is one of those places. The atmosphere, the staff, the buildings, the location, the cuisine, the rooms, the spa, truly everything was remarkable! I hope to happily return one day with either family or friends, so that they too can experience a place this special. Thank you again to all the wonderful people there who made our time memory worthy.

Words don’t really do this incredible place and the people that work here justice. It is an amazing Tuscan experience. There is so much to do. Don’t miss out cooking with Chef Giancarla and her team! The food and wine are amazing and everywhere you turn the views keep coming. Paradise on earth.

We were looking forward to our second stay at Monteverdi, and if I am going to be honest and relevant with this review, we would have to say were greatly disappointed this time around.
(We wrote a glowing review after our first stay, so we feel we need to be candid about our most recent experiece here)
MonteVerdi is still a first class property but for the following reasons below, it will not be one that we would stay at again on our travels to Italy. By way of reference, and comparison, we have also stayed at other boutique/luxury properties in Italy, including, Lupai, Rosewood Castiglion Del Bosco, and Borgo SanPietro which are similar in pricing and in some cases less expensive.
Upon our first time arrival to the village like resort of MonteVerdi, we found ourselves lost in wonder of the beauty, charm and intentional preservation of the original small Italian historical village. It was a perfect restful place and a escape from our hectic lives at home, but attained to luxurious details and an authentic vibe.
At that time, there remained a few long time residents, however all the other homes were bought out by the MonteVerdi and converted to beautiful hotel rooms that were all unique. The rooms were of course fully modernized, but were beautifully decorated with a 'rustic meets refined' approach.
I'm a designer myself, and noted the unique design style. Very elegant, however loaded with rustic charm and details. There was a transitional feel, which mixed blended old world charm with the luxuries of today. There was only one restaraunt, and it was amazing.. with a beautiful tiered outdoor stone terrace that had the most incredible views of rolling tuscan hills. There was as a more casual and intimate bar which was amazing for before or after dinner cocktails also with a beutiful stone terrace. There was no spa at that time but they were starting renos for the beautiful spa that is there now.
Unfortunatley though, since our first visit, the quaint and intimate feel in our opinion is all but lost. It seems that MonteVerdi is run on a much more corporate level from American owners and/or developers. A much bigger and very modern restaraunt has replaced the authentic and charming one of the past. The modern furniture, (think north american modern restaraunt hotel style), as well as top 40 style american music playing, made us feel like we were no longer in Italy. We love italy for the historical charm and also enjoy boutique style hotels and restarounts for a more intimate and relaxing experience from our fast paced North American Life.
Unfortunately, in our opinion, MonteVerdi no longer feels this way. Although our first meal was very tasty, the experience seemed like we were eating in a restaraunt in Chicago rather then in the hill tops of Tuscany.
Traditional apartments have been changed into business meeting rooms, and added on several rooms and we were placed in one of these over the new restaraunt. Our room did not lack quality bedding fixtures, and details, however the design seemed cold with bold colours and modern furniture. We also experienced a lot of noise of moving furniture on the floors, either from the room above or the restaraunt below. In addition, since we were there in october, we needed heat at night, and despite, their efforts to get it working, we were without heat our entire stay. Keeping in mind the nightly rate for these rooms, this is not acceptable for a hotel of this caliber. Upon check out we were offered a sincere apology but nothing else. Perhaps a discount on the room would have been suitable to go along with the apology?
MonteVerde is not cheap. We regretted deeply spending what we did on a room that much of our valuable relaxing and sleep time was spent with the front desk and maintence in our room trying to fix the heating issue.
While we fully recognize things like this can happen, we would have valued a customer service gesture in one way or another, to compensate for the nuicance of dealing with such a thing while on holidays paying top dollar.

We did fully enjoy the cooking class and felt it was good value. It was a delightful experience where you get to enjoy the 'fruits of your labour' at a nice sit down lunch.

Perhaps some would prefer the new direction the owners of MonteVerdi are taking the property, to the way it once was, but we left wishing we had spent our holiday dollars at Lupai instead.

The heating issue, wasn't the main disappointment for us however, but rather the very obvious deviation from what once made this place so special, and the notable Americanization of such special little hilltop Tuscan Village.

I could not recommend the hotel more. The views from the property are stunning and the grounds themselves are beautifully maintained and easy to get around. Massimo and the rest of the staff were incredibly helpful and accommodated all of our needs promptly and professionally, especially impressive considering the large size of our family (over 15 people). The included breakfast options were excellent; I ordered a different entree every day and each was better than the last. Our room itself (and the villa our family stayed in) was beautifully decorated and very comfortable.

The only negative is the hotel's remoteness. If you are interested in exploring more of Tuscany during your stay, you'll either need to rent a car or expect to pay a lot for taxi rides. That said, there is so much to do at the hotel (a refreshing hilltop pool, nearby scenic hiking trails, cooking classes, a cocktail lounge, a spa, etc.) that you can have a wonderful stay without ever leaving.

Absolute magic! We travel to many places and Monteverdi is now at the top of our list of favorites. The property, food and rooms were extraordinary — but what was even better (if you can believe it) was the staff. Everyone who works there is so extremely passionate, so caring, and genuinely dedicated to making sure every guest feels personally taken care of. What a class act.

The resort is the finest with the most attention to detail I have ever experienced. It feels like there are more people trying to make sure you are happy and have what you need than other guests. The excursions they planned were top notch. We will be back.
