Stayed here for 5 nights and 4 four full days of resort activities. Our queen room with kitchenette was very comfortable and had the amenities we needed. You do need to bring all of your own food, though. It was clean, well equipped, and comfortable. You can ski in and and out from the property. A brief walk to the village from the hotel gets you to the restaurants and bars. Hot tub was a tad manky- but again, room value was super.

What a wonderful place to call home at SilverStar. Cozy bed, spacious bathroom with full bath and shower, a fully-stocked kitchen, a gas fireplace, lots of natural light (including a patio), and a comfy couch with TV.

The building feels new and modern. While not in the main village, you are literally steps away from it - a 5 minute walk across the parking lot.

Our family of 4 (kids age 12 and 14) stayed at the Fire Light Lodge for 5 nights. When we made the reservation, the accommodation where we stayed for the last 5 years was fully booked so we reserved in what we thought would be the “next best place” in town/village.

We came to Fire Light with an open mind and will provide pros & cons from the perspective that we stayed in “better” accommodation at Silver Star:

PROS:

• Fantastic location IF you’re planning to go to the skating pond and/or Tube Park. The overall location of Fire Light Lodge is probably best for… families with young kids who may not ski all day long? Otherwise, the rest of us are walking, pretty much everywhere. Still better than driving, though!

• We loved having the bowling right next door, but it's a been strange to have decided to go with 10-pin bowling in a location that is more suited to young kids… 5-pins would have been more appropriate, but this worked well for us (and the staff was awesome).

• Very new, clean and modern. Our 2-bedrooms, 2-bathrooms condo had a great layout for our family, with the bedrooms separated by a spacious living room/dining room/kitchen. Beautiful vaulted ceiling in our unit and gorgeous view of the pond. The noise was not an issue for us, looking at other reviews, although the hotel was full over the week-end - albeit we were on the 4th floor.

• Customer service is simply top notch! Everybody was very helpful and went out of his/her way to accommodate our requests (usually for more kitchen equipment).

• Internet connection is awesome – reliable and fast (best we’ve seen in Silver Star so far). Good high definition TV in the living room.

• The entrance is really well set up with cubbies for ski gear AND boot heaters (impressive, a first for us). First time we’ve seen this kind of layout and it worked great.

• Similarly, there are no closets but the “open air” hangers worked well (hard to describe here, but the storage is very functional, that’s what we mean).

• Good size ski locker with open top (cool!) for longer skis.

CONS:

• This is not really a “true” ski-in/ski-out location. The only way to “ski-out” is to put on your skis at the back door and push up the hill (a bit) to the Silver Queen (slow and thankfully short) chair. Then you have to cat track to the Comet Express chair or stay in Silverwoods (with no easy way out, I’m afraid).

• Want to come back home for lunch? Go to the Village, walk or push through said Village, walk through the parking lot… or… find a way back up Comet, ski down the wind swept slopes of Alpine Meadows, push on the overpass, take off your skis, walk through the parking lot and walk down two sets of stairs. Wow, my arms are so sore from carrying my skis all over, I might just switch to cross-country!

• OMG, the washer-dryer combo machine drove us INSANE! First, we marveled at the concept and watched it in awe, sitting on the toilet and wondering about the millions that we could have made, have we thought about this concept first. But then… the novelty quickly wore off as we realized that one load of laundry takes HOURS to complete, the maximum load of 8 pounds (man, where’s the scale to weigh my laundry?!) did not get cleaned very well, the color ran on a favorite white shirt (washing with… old clothes in cold water?!). Want to give up? Forget it: your laundry is committed, there is NO WAY to get that door to open.

• Bottom line on the washer-dryer combo: it’s a good concept, but maybe not in a condo unit where families will stay with expected loads of dirty, smelly laundry… we left with dirty, smelly clothes, thanking our karma of not having thought about this concept first, which would have certainly left us to bankruptcy.

• Did you know that the only thing you CANNOT get at the Fire Light Lodge is, ironically, matches? In order to fuel our chocolate fondue, we could not find a match or lighter in the place anywhere – and that is the ONLY thing that stumped the wonderful staff. We made a plea to our teenagers to run to the nearby bonfire at Tube Town for a “Quest for Fire”, but nobody took up the challenge: we raced through that chocolate like you wouldn’t believe before it solidified under our forks, which wasn’t such a bad thing after all.

• Yep, there are still no mats or carpets in the entrance and, honestly, who would want their lovely hardwood floors tracked with wet, ski boots?! This would be such an easy fix… in the mean time, we just left all our boots in the hallway.

• Both my husband and I got a bleeding kiss from the sharp corners of the master bed: bumper pads? Duct tape? If the bed looks good, it doesn’t feel so good when it’s gauging through skin.

• Drying racks would be a great addition to any “ski condo” where lots of clothes can’t go in the dryer (don’t get me started on the laundry again) – but we managed, this is not a big deal.

• A step stool would be necessary to reach all the high cubbies, kitchen cupboards and storage in the bedrooms. At 5’2”, “I” certainly couldn’t reach ANY of these. Nothing that a 6’2” husband and/or 5’10” son couldn’t fix, but still… I would like to be independent without ruining the nice leather chairs in the dining room!

• As for most places we have rented in the past, a strainer for the kitchen sink would be recommended. Not sure what people are always putting down there (folks, are you doing this at home, too?!), but the magnificent huge kitchen sink is often plugged :-(

• No fitness centre here (again, a nice to have that you… well, can have somewhere else at in Silver Star…). The common hot tub can get noisy, probably because our unit was just above it, but there is "quiet time" at Fire Light and this was just fine in terms of noise from outside (hot tub, skating pond or Tube Town).

My kids and partner are staying here for another 3 nights....no sleep at all. Noisest place I've ever stayed at. Banging, stomping, pissed youths in spa pool. After skiing all.day you really want to try to get sleep...no.such luck so far. No curtains in bedrooms either so it's like daylight in rooms at night. Disappointing stay compared to hotels in sun peaks where residents and tourists have more respect. I've also never seen so many alcohol.bottles and cans litter the streets and slopes. Sign to be heeded.

When we arrived reception were not particularly helpful - no one helped us with our bags, or made us feel particularly welcome. First impressions were - quite a bland place. The rooms are noisey - you can hear people from upstairs due to the hard floors. Someone below us complained about the noise - we had just come in from skiing and were taking our boots off!!! We ignored the noise above us - it was obvious it was the floor and not people being inconsiderate. We had an interconnecting bachelor suite which was ok, although not much storage space for all your clothes. Beds were uncomfortable - felt like cheap mattresses, hard edges and sinks everywhere else. The sofa bed was no better. The combination washer made it difficult to dry clothes effectively - first time I have experienced having a combination - it does not work for families - crazy not having a separate dryer! They leave you the basic's for the apartment i.e. 3 x dishwashing tablets, washing up liquid but no other kitchen cleaner, tea and coffee, yes, but no small amount of milk to start you off. Nothing else - even had to go out and buy salt & pepper - first time ever. This is not a ski in or a ski out - don't let anyone tell you otherwise. I would rather pay more than be led to believe this is - most annoying when you have to hike all your stuff and children to the slopes.
The hot tub was fine, but nowhere to leave your towel indoors - only pegs outdoors and if it was snowing - they got covered in snow! A shelf to cover the pegs would have really worked. I just don't think they have thought everything through here
The ski lockers are good and whilst Firelight was not really my thing, it was clean and tidy. Silverstar itself is a good family resort and child-friendly - I would go to the resort again but stay elsewhere.

We spent a fabulous week at Silver Star and slept 6 nights in a quiet private accomodation. We travel every year to a different BC ski resort for our winter family holidays and Silver Star offered us by far the best experience to our entire family.

We decided to extend our stay by one night and book a two bedroom appartement at The Fire Light Lodge. It is a new accomodation at Silverstar located not far away from the village. It is not quite a ski in ski out hotel but it is still centrally located.

The room was very spacious, modern design with nice furniture and appliances. The room didn't have a hot tube but we used the communal hot tube. The hot tube was clean but it's design was less than perfect as too much of the upper body was exposed to the element when sitting in it.

Avoid a room with a view to the parking lot. We had a view on the pond and it offer a much better visual experience.

The bad:
Poor sleep experience. The mattress was not very comfortable and the pillows were too soft to offer any support. The curtains in the room didn't block enough the outside lights. Walls and ceiling have very poor sound insulation: we could hear the family above us talking and walking and that family was not doing any excessive behavior. We didn't have darkness in the room for the entire night. Finally the radio alarm in the kitchen went off around midnight...

The very sour taste:
When I mention that the radio went off in the middle of the night to the manager, he was unapologetic and told me that it was our fault if we didn't check the setting of our two alarms ( first time it ever happen to me that an alarm is set on when I checked in).
I also happen to use the iron supplied in my room. Within second of using it I saw a small amount of wax residued ruining an expensive shirt. My guess is someone previously use the iron to hot wax their skis!? I brought it promptly to the attention of an employee and went to discuss it with the manager. Richard is the first name of the manager and he told me that it wasn't the hotel responsibility if I made my shirt melt... He offered no apology and they were no room to negotiate a compensation. Sadly Richard lacked both in conflict management or chemistry knowledge.... as I am not sure how you can melt a cotton shirt into wax... Cotton can burn but not melt. Maybe alchemy can explain this phenomenon but I must admit my lack of knowledge in that field!

No hot water, every two or three rooms are using one hit water tank, so you need to check with the rooms next door if it's ok to take a shower; and good luck to get a hold of any one at the front desk when you have a problem. Stay away from this place there are tons of other good places in the area!!!

We stayed in a two bedroom unit at the Firelight. We simply could not have asked for more a great accommodation at Silverstar. The complex is right beside the ice skating rink, which affords an excellent opportunity to play hockey apres ski. We really enjoyed being able to ski in and ski out with ease.

While we were there a few of our friends stayed in other places on the mountain, and generally everyone enjoyed our spot the most. It is not located in the village center, however we were more interested in the proximity to the skating rink, which is outstanding. The mountain itself was awesome. I have skied numerous other locations, and although Silverstar may not be the largest mountain, the runs, staff, and snow make it a destination worth visiting.

Also, if you cross country ski, the ski in/ski out for the hotel also serves the extensive nordic trail network.

We love this place! Staff is so helpful, accommodating. First visited in 2010. Rented a 1 bedroom unit, living room, full bath, full kitchen - for me extremely important. Patio with private hut tub (optional) - extremely important for my husband after doing his own stunts on the mountain :) Patio is also equipped with BBQ.
This year we didn't make reservations, we just walked-in. They had a Bachelor unit available with hut tub, but unit was not clean at the time of our arrival. Front staff was very accommodating. Housekeeping staff agreed to stay behind to clean us the unit. Pots and pans were mostly clean and well kept, the only thing that was dirty/worn was the kettle. But so much better than other places we have stayed at in the past. This is one of the reasons we returned. Also, washer/dryer in our unit was not working, so we were given an empty unit's key so we could do our laundry while staying at the lodge. How nice!
We like it up there a lot. Like the other advisor said, it's like a tiny, tiny Whistler at Silver Star.
Tip: If you gonna cook for yourself up there, it's ideal to get your groceries at the bottom of the mountain as the little shop in the Village is horribly expensive. The employees are extremely nice and helpful though. The village is adorable, locals are friendly. More people should visit in the summer. My husband is not about to give up riding, so we are planning to go next year again. The place is worth every penny. Price is excellent!!

Wow - the first reviewer...
So, we went to the Firelight Lodge for two nights over the August long weekend.
To be honest, we were trying to stay in Vernon, but everything was booked.
So, we ended up in Silver Star. I had never been before, but will certainly return.
Think - very mini Whistler, but with brighter paint. :)
The booking process went smoothly, and we booked a two bedroom unit.
Now, this property is comprised of individually owned units that a management company runs hotel style for the owners if they so choose.
The front desk staff were exceedingly helpful, and went so far as to find a local mountain biker to take my son on a three hour, one on one ride to work on his skills. I am quite sure that was an unusual request, and they did it more than happily. Honestly, that was what made the stay.
(his name was Bobby and worked at the bike repair shop - in case you're in need of a guide for any reason - very nice young man, and good with young children just learning)
The property will come along nicely with some more landscaping, and the units are very nice. Our particular unit had 2 full baths and one bedroom had a king and the other had a double on the bottom and a single on the top.
They have thought storage needs through well for skiers, with nice cubbies in the front.
Here's the minuses - and it's a shame, as this place has potential.
Cleaning - not so stellar. My personal belief is that because the property is new and shiny, the units are not being cleaned thoroughly. You know...a half way done job still looks good on new stuff. Ie - drywall dust on the hardwood, and someone else's freezies still in the freezer, etc.
And while the benefit of having a washer/dryer combo in the room is great, the bloody thing has to work. Tip for the management company...leave DETAILED instructions on that one. Yes, I did read the manual cover to cover, and yet still had to hang my clothes to dry at 1:20 am, when I finally accepted defeat.
And it's a shame there's no a/c, but I completely understand that they are billed as a winter resort.
The front desk happily brought us a fan to try and cool off. Agian - front desk and "newness" we're the good parts.
Anyways - you have a full size kitchen, so that was also great.
And wow, what a great vibe that place has, friendly, laid back, and welcoming.
We had no idea how amazing the biking facilities were, I can only guess ski season is just as good. We'll be back to find out!
