Really lovely hotel! Spa is amazing and a must for every guest!
Turn down was a lovely addition!
We didn't have breakfast or dinner in the hotel but they offer a continental breakfast for €6 in the bar area which is really reasonable. There is also a Supermarket located right not door which was super convenient. Hotel location is perfect for exploring the beach and the city of Porto with the City sightseeing bus stop across the road from the stop!

Really enjoyable stay!

Stayed at Porto Palacio for 7 nights in Porto with my family. The hotel is located in an alright area, around a 15 minute walk from Francos metro station and a 20 minute walk from Casa da Musica metro station. The stay didn’t get off to the greatest of starts because we had been given the incorrect rooms and had to wait an hour fir replacement rooms. This was very frustrating considering we had just travelled a long distance and we wanted to relax in our rooms. Eventually we got into our rooms which were very nice and modern with a few interesting, unique features, however the safe in our room was broken which meant that a technician had to come and fix it in the evening which was a bit annoying but wasn’t a massive issue.
Due to Coronavirus, breakfast was different to what I had experienced in other hotels which is fair enough given the pandemic. There were staff around the buffet, you had to queue up and they would serve you whatever you asked for. This wasn’t a problem but it did create large queues for breakfast serving and it was clear that the staff had too much to do. On the flip side, Rosa who served us at breakfast almost every day was so kind and lovely - a massive thank you to her for everything she did over the course of our 7 days, she was brilliant.
In terms of the facilities, again they were a bit up and down. The pool was extremely small in contrast to the gym which was massive. The gym was very good and it had lots of machines and equipment for everyone to use. There were some bizarre rules due to COVID, for example you had to bring a towel with you to the gym otherwise you were refused entry as well as there being no water in the gym due to the pandemic (no water machine or anything like that). We visited the spa pool once which was amazing. The pool was great along with the jacuzzi and water jets in the pool. Some of the other stuff like the hot stone beds were nice however some of the showers weren’t great mainly because they didn’t work properly and the lighting is very dim so you can’t see the controls properly.
Apart from the two issues I listed at the beginning of the review, we had one further issue that was persistent throughout our stay. Throughout the day and night, the air conditioning in our room would switch off and considering that Portugal is a hot country, this was extremely hard to deal with especially in the middle of the night. Even after talking to the receptionists, it was a repeat issue throughout the whole 7 nights of our stay.
There were a few other staff that I am unsure of their names that were very helpful towards us as well, it is just a shame that we had so many problems with the rooms. I was initially going to place this review at 3 star, however I chose 4 as the stay did progressively get better thanks to a few of the staff who made a large effort to make up for all the issues. Other then that, the hotel is extremely nice with a business/executive style to it.
We were probably just unlucky with our visit so I would still recommend staying in Porto Palacio.

Excellent service and very delicious breakfast included. Bar is very nice with excellent drinks. The only thing I would say is that if you really want to see the historic part of Porto then it’s not the best location. One thing I really like about this hotel is that it has incredible amenities including a fabulous spa. For €15 you can use the thermal pools and saunas and enjoy an hour of relaxation in this indoor dim lit Jacuzzi spa pool area. I also took it vantage of the spa and got a massage after four days touring Madrid. The massage was excellent another very reasonable price.

We stayed here as part of a Secret Escapes package and found the hotel clinically clean, efficient and businesslike. The spacious room and bathroom was equipped and comfortable.
They really excelled them selves with a fantastic breakfast buffet which provided a quality meal to begin they day with, fruit, hot food selection, pastries, fish, yoghurts, bread selection, cheese, ham - nothing missing.
The evening meals in the rooftop restaurant was OK although pricey and rather formal, the sort of place you'd take a business client.
The location was away from the city centre but quite accessible by bus and as others note there is a very useful supermarket next door - it suited us to enjoy a meal in the city during the day and get a supper from next door in the evening.

Arriving at the hotel for a business trip did the check in early afternoon and I was put in a room next to the elevator.
The rest of my colleagues were all put in better rooms and the ones that were not Portuguese (I’m Portuguese) were offered a drink in the rooftop and even a room upgrade.

I’ve asked the hotel to change room and I’ve been told they didn’t have any more rooms in that “segment” so I ask why didn’t they upgraded me since it was their bad to put in the room next to the elevator even when I did an early check in, they said they couldn’t do it at that time, so I was very surprised when talking with one of my colleagues from abroad was offered an upgrade AFTER I had this conversation with the hotel staff.

Also the single beds in the room are super small and the carpet in the rooms is damaged.

Dodge Porto Palácio, you better served with Sheraton just access the street!

Comfortable and quiet for a perfect relaxing time. Friendly and helpful staff throughout the hotel, special mention to house keeping, they paid special attention to tidying the room as well as spotless cleaning. The hotel had great facilities, the rooms were very well equipped to a high standard and the leisure facilities were amazing. The squash court was in great condition, just didn’t have enough time to use it. We had a great time, would definitely visit again.

This is a good urban hotel, with a proper location, in a centric but modern district, I´d say something along the lines of a business hotel, but the clientele was really varied, most of them foreigners. I´d already been staying in Porto Palácio, but it was many years ago, so the hotel must have been revamped as I found some changes. There´s a restaurant and cafeteria on the 20th floor and the views are fantastic, you can even see the Douro estuary and, looking from the other extreme of the large room, the Clérigos Tower. Rooms are functional and elegant. Excelent beds. Everything is sleek and modern. There´s also a health centre, if I´m not mistaken you can access to some parts of it but, for other services you have to pay extra. Outstanding staff: professional, friendly, always on the ball. Unlike other opinions, I didn´t see any special difficulty in the access if you come driving: there´s a major work outside due to an underground extension I think, but that´s external to the hotel and you only have to follow the signs, nothing particularly complicated. Besides, I got an incredible rate, so the price-quality ratio was really excellent.

This hotel is not in a very "touristy" area. 20-30 min cab ride to town center and other places of interest.

When we checked in we asked for help about contacting a tour group for the next day and were told to call from the room on our own. Apparently she wasn't in the mood to help.

We were travelling with another couple that had an A/C incident with water leaking in the room and were moved in the middle of the night to another room.

We took a special bottle of wine to the rooftop bar and were told there would be a $50 cork fee.

Overall the hotel is OK, but If you are looking for "beautiful" Porto, this is not the spot.

No it is not in walking distance to the city center 2.5 km. But if you ask for shopping and restaurants there are not too far 700 meters. There are 2 places to eat closer around 100 meters - I know noting about them. Public transportation is also 700 meters from the hotel.

The airport in Porto is only 15-20 minutes away from the hotel. The hotel is a 5-star resort, so it is pricey. But look for discount through hotel apps, you can actually get decent deductions. Write if you have further questions. Kind regards, Vittus Qujaukitsoq
