Scandic Palace Hotel garners praise for its welcoming staff and bountiful breakfast, nestled in a prime location that puts guests in the heart of the city's attractions and dining. While many appreciate the hotel's historic charm and spotless rooms, a few guests note dated décor and occasional maintenance issues. Opinions on noise insulation are mixed, with some enjoying peaceful rest while others are disturbed by external sounds. Despite some inconsistencies in room cleaning and perceived value, the hotel's service and location remain popular highlights.

This legendary hotel with an excellent location and stunning architecture could be one of the leading hotels in Copenhagen but it is going downhill.

My partner is a Scandic TOP Level member and he received a 150 DKK (20 euros) restaurant voucher but the Capa restaurant at the hotel is not a Scandic restaurant. The first receptionist told us the restaurant can take the voucher or not but you can use it in the lobby shop. When we later tried to use the voucher in the shop, the only option to use the voucher was 12 x 0,5-liter water bottles. The voucher is not valid for chips, chocolate, and sweets. No alcohol products or soft drinks were available. The next morning, there was again a different receptionist and now we could buy soft drinks and smoothies from the small fridge located in the luggage room.

We stayed in a Presidential Suite for a quite affordable senior rate of 260 euros. In Denmark, you can have this senior rate -40% only for Sun-Mon nights. The booking must be made from the Danish Scandic website with code 'FG'. The rate is flexible and not prepaid.

The Presidential suite is not very presidential (only 58 m2). More like a spacious Junior Suite but that we already knew beforehand. We stayed in the same room in 2013. The sofa and chairs had been changed after our last visit and the coffee machine had disappeared. And the minibar was empty. No bathrobes. There are two small balconies with nice views of Rådhuspladsen.

The breakfast had been changed from the restaurant to the underground breakfast room which was quite tight fit and crowded. The warm dishes were unpractically packed into small glass jars.

Close to everything including the new metro station. There are stores, reataurants, bakeries, museums all minutes away. We could walk everywhere. Check in was smooth, everyone was very professional. Our room was lovely and overlooked the town hall with a small balcony. Room had kettle with coffee and tea, fridge, huge shower room, comfortable bed and sitting area. While cleaning was only done when requested, someone did check the room daily for dirty towels, toilet paper etc. In practice this was good, but items were often forgotten and we had to call the front desk. Seems as if this system still has some glitches that need to be worked out. Breakfast was absolutely great! Lots of hot foods and good choices. We had no problem with and noise issues either from outside or within the hotel. Prices are more reasonable in the winter!

I have stayed 5 times at the Palace hotel. This time, we chose to stay a presidential suite with a balcony. The room itself was fantastic. Beds were comfortable, furniture nice but, view was absolutely fantastic but as happened other times, cleaning was an issue.

It's not like the room was filthy but when you pay for the most expensive room at a hotel you expect they take care of small details. Basic cleaning was done but they were not very careful in doing so, only to inmediatly visible surfaces. The part that felt a bit insulting was to ask for cleaning everyday. You can be enviromentaly friendly and I don't mind to use the same towel for a couple of days but not having a hotel room cleaned every day is non sense, specially a suite. Even when we asked for it it was poorly done, they emptied bins, made beds and nothing else. The bathroom after 6 days was a mess, as it wasn't dusted once, neither was the room. Towels have seen better days, they had stains and that old feel from being whashed a thousand times before.

If you are a hostel and give hostel services I can understand but you can't be a hotel and offer hostel services at 4 star hotel price. Either you are one or the other. This hotel has the potential to be an incredible experience but cleaning has become a really big issue for me and seems to get worse every time. If I wanted to clean during my holidays I would chose and airbnb, not a hotel. If I stay in a hotel is to get hotel services, I'm sorry but cleaning is not optional. I would have tolerated it if the room had been spotless clean upon arrival but it wasn't. The presidential suite was large, the big balcony was a wonderful place but it lacked ammenities you would expect from a room of this category. Soaps and the very few things left in the bathroom were not replaced once (I ended up buying my own shower gel and shampoo as they never got to bring new ones)

I will probably stay again if I visit Copenhagen because location can't be better and the hotel building history is fascinating but if you decide to stay here, be aware of these issues so you are not dissapointed on arrival. I feel sad to see the potential of this place being burried a little more every passing year.

We stayed at the Scandic Palace Hotel for 5 nights in a junior suite.

Check in was extremely easy and seamless.
The room has a separate lounge room to the bedroom however there is a sliding partition between the rooms rather than a solid wall - something to be aware of. The room was a great size and the bathroom had a separate shower and tub.

The room is not cleaned daily and only done on request which we did request half way through our stay. They do a light clean only - make the bed, change towels, remove rubbish and replace toilet paper. That’s really all you need done.

Breakfast was great. Each day offering the same food options but there was enough variety that you could have something different every morning. The breakfast room can get very busy!

The location of the hotel is amazing! 2 minute walk to Tivoli Gardens, 2 minute walk to the metro, lots of restaurants at your doorstep - cannot fault the location.

The only negative is the hotel offered many many hand sanitiser machines throughout the hotel. 2 in the entry, 2 in the lobby, every floor had 2 but every hand sanitiser station in the hotel was empty and not once had sanitiser refilled during our stay. The only one that had hand sanitiser was in the breakfast room.

The hotel has no bar or lounge as advertised , so you can’t come back get a drink and relax other than go to your room. There is no outdoor terrace as per the website either. There is no room service at all, no drinks or food and nothing in the mini bar. So you can’t get a drink or a light meal in your room 7 days a week. The in room refreshment was a liquorice tea or a green tea or coffee but only if you take your coffee black. The coffee shop was a self serve machine in the reception area but it was out of order whilst we were there. There is only one restaurant (Cappa which is not run by the hotel). There is no cable TV so only a few channels in Danish. So this is a glorified B&B. The hotel offers environmental friendly cleaning which means you have to ask if you want your room made up, I have no problem with this, but if you do ask it’s so environmentally friendly they don’t hoover, polish or dust during your stay. The location is fantastic and breakfast was ok. I mean don’t expect them to bring you anything or cook anything to your order, but it’s ok. If you want a central base then it will suit your needs, if you want a hotel, I would recommend looking at others.

Upon check in for a 3-night stay, we were informed that our room would not be cleaned (!!) unless specifically requested. Their explanation was for Covid reasons (?) although Copenhagen was fully open with no restrictions during our visit. Also one would expect that Covid reasons would require more cleaening and not less. We were stunned by this approach especially in a hotel, when we could have booked an apartment if we did not require cleaning. In hotel experiences, this was an absolute first. We then requested cleaning for all three nights and were told that only towels would be changed and rubbish removed and still no cleaning would be offered. Again this is not acceptable especially at those prices. We got cleaning in the end albeit reluctantly.

We booked a twin room with terrace and we got a double room which we then asked to be changed. This was done without any issues. The room was nice and spacious but so hot we had to leave the door open to try and get the cooler air in from the hall. The heating was at zero but it remained like a sauna in spite of the windows being open. The air vent rattled all night on the first night and when we complained the hotel staff did not apologise but said yes, well that's just the way it is. We were not impressed with their indifference. In general the staff were quite snooty. The bathroom was not in great repair - there were holes in the ceiling and the shower was in the bath which is a very dated approach. Shower power was low.

We asked in the restaurant if a reservation was possible and they told us quite snootily no and that we would have had to book this two weeks in advance. It would have been good to know this although the restaurant is quite expensive.
All in all, a good location although might stay at harbour next visit as there are some nicer hotels there near Nyhavn.

Dear E3302DAdianeb, Many thanks for the recent stay and for you taking the time to leave a review for us. We are thankful for it. We are sorry to learn that you were not happy with the cleaning procedure during Covid-19. The reason for this procedure was to try to lower the spread of Covid-19. We are however glad that you got cleaning after requesting for it. We are sorry to learn that you found the room to be too warm and that our staff had a snooty attitude about it towards you. That is absolutely not acceptable and should have been taken care of right away for you. We apologize for that type of behavior, as well as for the heating in the room. The restaurants in the hotels is not owned by the hotel and therefor we do not have much power over their reservations. The restaurants are great though and has been very very popular ever since they opened up with full house almost every evening. We do apologize on their behalf of them giving you attitude, that is of course not acceptable from their side. We hope to stull be able to welcome you back for your next visit to Copenhagen. If not, we do hope that you will enjoy your stay at another place. Best regards, Erika Nathalie Nilsson Front Office Supervisor

Firstly, I must say that the staff are very friendly, professional and helpful on the whole. At check in there was a queue and only one person dealing with the queue despite other staff being available, but not actually doing anything except sitting in a chair by reception appearing to be a guest. Seven o’clock on the button she got up and went behind reception, by which time the queue had reduced significantly. I would emphasise that this appeared an isolated incident and all other visits to reception were met with a much better attitude.

Turning to the rooms - on all previous visits we have been accommodated in the newer block. On this occasion we were in the old block. The rooms are tiny, especially the bathroom. It was virtually impossible to get into the bathroom without falling over the toilet; the bath was very deep and the taps needed labelling. Lots of water wasted trying to get the right temperature. To be honest the hotel would do much better taking out the bath, replacing it with just a shower and moving the toilet away from the door.

The room itself was acceptable in size, but it did feel more like a single room with a double bed in it than a double room.

Tea and coffee needed better stocking. You have a double room but only one tea, one coffee, four creamers and seventeen sugars. For a hotel of this standard it is simply not good enough to grab such supplies randomly from the housekeeping trolley and place them in the room. Judging by the other guests asking for supplies we were not the only ones with this problem.

Finally don’t bother turning on the TV if you don’t speak Danish!

Well, this hotel is so closed to the city center and many places likewise stores, bakeries, and restaurants. The check-in procedure was so quick and in this hotel, all personnel was really professional. The room, I stayed in, was lovely and it has got many pieces of equipment inside. The bed was really comfortable and the room was so clean. Breakfast was almost good.

We stayed at the junior suite and I would not recommend this hotel. The location is great but the walls are paper thin and our room was apparently located behind(?) a movie theatre and we had to deal with the noice all day and night, not to mention hearing the guests above us clear as day. The room was super dirty and I felt kinda sick just being in there. The restaurant doesn’t have many options and the lunch menu is the same as dinner menu. The church bell rings every 15 minutes from 8am to midnight. Some of the lights don’t work and the bedroom doesn’t have any sockets so you can’t charge your phone in there or anything. Some sockets in the living room don’t work at all.
Needless to say I didn’t get much sleep staying in this hotel, not coming back
