We decided to do a local “staycation” and chose the Brew House as our home away from home for a couple days.
The room we stayed in overlooks the river and has a stunning view. The bed was comfy and the room is spacious. You are above a bar so can hear some music early in the evening but it didn’t go on too long. The bathroom needs some updating but all in all, it was a pleasant stay and we’re happy we chose this place.
We only had one meal while there, but wow, we will be back.
We didn’t have high expectations as we were assuming standard pub-grub.
All the standard pub type foods are available but everything we tried is fantastic. We both had some pasta dishes and ended up having lunch the next day as the servings were so large. We had started with Nachos and commented we both felt they were the best we had had in years.
This place is close enough to where we live that we will be making the drive back again.
Do yourself a favour and check it out.
The room we stayed in was super specious and clean. Nothing fancy but the owners made sure there was a touch of luxury. Nice linens, towels and beautiful bed.
However the mattress itself could've been a little more comfortable. It's a 145$ a night.
The breakfast was simple: jams, bread, cereal, milk and coffee that you prepare in your own room
I believe the confort wih the matress are the only things we hope and wish they improve. They should include more breads, and fruits and a nicer cozier mattress.
The Riverview Room had a very comfortable bed and a nice view of the river. The MacHaven Room had a beautiful yet very wobbly four-poster bed. Our friends were pretty sure they were sleeping on a box spring, not a mattress.
My husband and I were excited about using the large bathtub with jets after a walk in the cold weather but there was absolutely no hot water. As it's an old building we let it run for at least 10 minutes to warm up, but no such luck. Our friends also had no hot water and only a drip coming from their taps.
The next morning when we went to eat the 2 pieces of fruit they had left us for 'continental' breakfast, we were annoyed to find our apples bruised and brown and the milk expired. So we couldn't eat the cereal they left us or the fruit. When we handed in the keys and told the lady about no hot water, all we got was a 'Oh, I'm sorry'.
We will never stay at this place again, nor visit the pub. Truly a disappointment in such a quaint town.
Our waiter was very efficient and helpful. All said they would definitely return to a place that has a great atmosphere and delightful food.
Should mention that there is an outside area to sit. Could not use it in October but a beautiful place during the summer months.
Breakfast is at a nearby restaurant, a one mine walk.
Food is "pub grub" with a bit of flair.
Fergus is a nice, central place to visit the whole region and the B rew House on the Grand is a good choice for a base.
"Both rooms were spacious, clean, neat and tidy, and the beds very comfortable. Very little to choose between them."Read full review
"we had loads of luggage and it was a killer getting up the stairs, if you are young and fit, great, if your a little older or have problems with stairs be warned. also parking, you have to find a spot in the pub car park with when we were there was very busy, travel light."Read full review
"Only two rooms and both are undergoing some renovations. Back room has view of river and larger bathroom, front room has beautiful exposed stone wall."Read full review
