We’re just home from the most amazing 5 Night stay at the Memmo Principe Real.
I work in Hotels myself, so I know what to expect but the Memmo Principe Real surpassed any expectations. It was just WOW & we didn’t want to leave!
Firstly a massive thank you to the incredible team, everyone we met was Happy, Friendly & always delighted to help!
Special mention to Eduardo at Reception who was incredible, he booked us different restaurants and even checked in on us during his evening off to make sure we were enjoying the restaurant he chose, this is the definition of amazing hospitality!
Thank you Eduardo!!!
Also Rafael, Ricardo & Federico at Reception always checked on us during our 5 Nights & were always so helpful! It was lovely to be greeted every day by name, a really lovely touch.
Afonso & Romario in the Restaurant treated us like family each day, and were just super! Serving us drinks & Nibbles by the pool everyday as well as dinner on two nights. Amazing guys, overall the Hotel has an incredible team.
The Food is some of the best Hotel food we’ve had, it was so good we found it hard to leave the Hotel! Lunch & Dinner was so delicious & eating by the pool with the stunning views was such a treat!
The Pool was brilliant, and drinks by the pool are just what you need after a Hot day exploring the city. The Music around the Pool & Hotel was also great for creating a fantastic atmosphere, relaxed & chill favourites!
The Hotel is a hidden oasis in the busy city, extremely good location.
Bedrooms are perfect, & have every detail you need.
The Hotel was spotless, the Housekeeping Team are amazing.
If Memmo had Hotels around Europe, I would become a loyal customer & stay with them everywhere as they really have figured out the true meaning of Hospitality!
Thank you for a fantastic stay & we will 100% be back!!
I had lunch in the restaurant. On the minus side there is a fairly limited menu with expensive main courses. On the plus side I chose instead to have two starters which took a while to arrive, probably because they were being freshly prepared, and were very nicely presented.
The hotel offered a "free" walking tour of the area each morning. I was the only participant because so few people are traveling for pleasure in this strange coronavirus time. The guide, who was very good with excellent English, made it very clear right at the beginning that she was not a hotel employee and that she expected a tip at the end of the tour. It was a good tour lasting 2 hours so I was happy to give a substantial tip but a bit surprised at how up front she was about her expectation.
Overall this is a somewhat odd but good hotel with helpful staff and I would be happy to stay there again.
The hotel itself is stylish and well decorated. The rooms are a little small and I'm not sure about the split toilet/bathroom area, but that's nitpicking. The views over Lisbon are exceptional, and especially so at night.
Service was wonderful. When we rang reception at 11pm for mint tea bags, we had freshly brewed mint tea brought to our room. When my husband I went to the pool, one of the staff members came by to drop towels off for us.
The highlight would be the breakfast spread - they no longer have it buffet style due to covid, so everything is table service. Despite it being extremely busy the first morning we were there, the waiters maintained their composure and did their best with all the tables.
We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend to anyone looking for a nice quiet romantic time.
We knew all this beforehand but chose this hotel over its 4-star sibling further down the hill for its great location in the Bairro Alto neighborhood.
The only real complaint I have is the implementation of Covid-19 measures at breakfast. Like in all hotels, buffets have been replaced by food being brought by waiters to each table, which makes total sense. However, when waiters bring a wooden plate with charcuterie offerings, they literally bring it down to people's face level, barely 20 cm away from people's mouths, so guests are basically breathing out aerosoles all over meats and cheeses as they tell the waiter what they'd like to eat. I gasped in horror as one guest literally spat all over the wooden board while he was loudly explaining what he wanted to eat.
This could be easily corrected by simply holding the charcuterie plate at a safe distance from guests (say, 1 meter) while pointing to what choices they have rather than shwoing it to them at the face level.
The personnel is otherwise lovely and professional. The next time we're in Lisbon, we'll go back to the sister hotel Memmo Alfama instead, whose rooms are much more charming, with even nicer city views from the terrace. Memmo Principe Real does not justify the price premium over Alfama (typically 100 euro more per night for comparable rooms).

Impeccably clean rooms with beautiful designs and some lovely touches that made us feel welcome, eg, delicious truffle chocolates placed under a bowler hat 🎩 together with a postcard of helpful hints and tips.
Breakfast on the terrace each morning was delicious with a buffet and a nice selection of dishes on the menu.
Location was good too; we walked downhill exploring the best of Lisbon’s narrow hilly roads, then got an Uber back when we were ready to go back for four wonderful nights’ sleep in crisp white sheets on a comfy bed.
Thank you hotel Memmo Principe Real. We hope to return one day.
The Memmo is a small property, so don’t expect early check in or late checkout. I was lucky to get a 1 PM departure.
We didn’t partake of the 30 Euro pp breakfast but did enjoy a pitcher of gin cocktails at the restaurant on the last night in town. We had checked out earlier that day and returned to retrieve bags before our late flight. We availed ourselves of lounge chairs outside as well as electric outlets for laptops. As the sun set, it was the perfect end to our short stay in Lisbon.

"The hotel is not located directly on the street, so the “city view” rooms are very quiet. Access is thru a building and down a driveway."Read full review
