Hotel Europa stands out for its prime central location, earning universal acclaim from travelers for its easy accessibility to attractions and shopping. Guests commend the staff's friendliness and the overall cleanliness of the hotel, noting particularly the modern bathrooms and well-maintained common areas. However, opinions on the hotel's atmosphere and amenities are mixed; while some appreciate the cozy and modern vibe, others point out dated decor and a lack of in-room comforts. Room experiences vary, with guests enjoying the comfort and location, yet voicing concerns over noise, temperature control, and the need for updates.

Hotel's Favourite
The hotel features spacious and clean rooms, with extremely comfortable beds and pillows. The staff is excellent, welcoming upon arrival and giving tips on where to go and how to get there. The location is spectacular, in the heart of Puerta del Sol. The main courtyard is literally ten yards from the hotel entrance, making it easy to get to cafes, restaurants, shops, and most tourist locales. Despite being in such a vibrant area, the rooms are quiet and peaceful.

We stayed at Hotel Europa from July 22nd - 28th. We extended an additional day because we were so relaxed and weren't ready to leave on our trip to Barcelona. Always had hot water for the shower, TV worked well with our FireTV, the room was fairly soundproof, beds/pillows were comfortable, and we got excellent sleep each night. The hotel is in a perfect location for easy access to restaurants, bars trains, and shopping. We didn't try the restaurant so I can't comment on that, but everything else made this an excellent value for the price.

My wife and I stayed at Hotel Europa for 4 nights, Jan. 29th to Feb. 2/20. The location was great, center of the city, in Puerta del Sol square, within walking distance of all the historical sites. We used the subway to travel here from the airport. The reception staff, particularly for us, Daniel and Sonia, were very helpful during our stay. There is an attached restaurant, also with great staff, that is very convenient, and the food is good, although there are also unlimited choices within walking distance. We will stay here again.

We were so excited to stay at Hotel Europa. The location can't be beat on the Puerta del Sol. The room was nice, modern, and we enjoyed the little balcony overlooking the plaza. The noise from the plaza didn't bother us at all. That activity was part of the fun. However what did bother us was the rude staff. We were never greeted or treated as anything more than an annoyance, something unexpected and unwelcome for the price of staying here. As we were leaving, we asked if they would mind mailing some post cards for us. Not one ever arrived, leaving us to believe they were mailed right into the trash can. If they didn't want to, that's all they needed to say and we would have found a post box. Next time in Madrid, we will not stay here.

We first stayed here in January 2018 and our visit this january was every bit as good as that first. It is impressively clean in all areas, public and private rooms. The beds are extremely comfortable and the bathrooms are wonderful, I could spend hours in that shower! Every staff member we met from housekeeping, reception through to the waiters in the restaurant was friendly, polite and obliging. We were made very welcome and well looked after. The reception staff particularly deserve special thanks for going out of their way to help with a non hotel related issue. The location is very central with easy access to shopping, dining, museums and the train station. All in all it is great value for money and is now settled as our go-to hotel when in Madrid and one we have no hesitation recommending to others. Thank you to all at Hotel Europa.

I stayed 5 nights and the room was quiet and comfortable. Great location right in the middle of Puerta del Sol. Room service was available if required through the hotel's cafe. The staff were very helpful in assisting with directions, maps. They ordered a taxi for me to the airport and a staff member even walked with me a couple of minutes to the pick up point, as taxis could not stop right outside the hotel, being a pedestrian environment.

This is a nice older hotel in a convenient area of the city. The rooms were clean and the desk staff was friendly and helpful. There is no pay upon checkout here. You will have to pay for your first night before checking in. We then found out that we will have to pay for our second night in advance if we were going to continue to stay (did not see that anywhere on the website or email confirmation of the reservation). They technically do have a breakfast option but it is in the attached cafe (open to the public) and is at your own expense. This is also the first hotel I have ever stayed in where you could not borrow an iron (really???).

My wife and I stayed at the Europa for 3 nights in March and were very disappointed with this hotel. Hotel lobby and room is very rundown, service is so-so. Beds are not
very comfortable, and our bathroom had a bad toilet or mold smell.
Puerto Sol area is a nightmare to move around in. I trusted Rick Steve's recommendation and in this case - I think he is off the mark. I recommend doing some research - there will be many better hotels in more desirable areas of the city
for the same or better price.

Dear Roger Z.: Thank you for spend some of your velue time to express your satisfaction during your stay at Hotel Europa. As you can read in other user reviews, our location is fantastic, in the Puerta del Sol, the center of the city of Madrid. Unbeatable to access all the tourist spots on foot. On the other hand, you can also see in the other opinions how our rooms are very comfortable and cleanliness is one of the best valued items. Rick Steve recommends and does not fail, as our guests let us know. We hope you can change your opinion very soon about Hotel Europa, the only hotel in Puerta del Sol.

I stayed in this hotel for a 4 night break to Madrid. I chose the hotel based on TA reviews and I was not disappointed. Check in was very efficient by the friendly reception staff. We arrived after an early morning flight and were delighted to get access to the room at 11am. The room was fairly small but met our needs. There was a fridge, safe, free toiletries and air conditioning that worked well and kept the room cool in 40 degree temperature. There wasn’t tea making facilities in the room. The room was quiet so no problem getting a good sleep. The location was excellent. It is situated at the corner of Puerto del Sol and within easy walking distance to many attractions. The Sol metro station is 1 minute walk from the hotel. I didn’t take breakfast at the hotel. I ate dinner there on one night and was very disappointed. Choice was very limited and my food was not very tasty. Overall I would highly recommend this hotel.

The location of the hotel is perfect for walking all over Madrid. Restaurants and shops are very near the hotel and Puerta del Sol is literally right outside the window. If you are a light sleeper, you should request a room away from the square or higher than the third floor because people stay out in the square all night long. My room was relatively small but clean and comfortable. Staff was helpful. I would stay here again if visiting Madrid.

Check the Renfe website to see which station the train from Barcelona arrives at. From the train station you’ll need to take a taxi or metro to the hotel. The Sol metro station is a 2 minutes walk from the hotel. The only train stations I’ve been to are Atocha, a 5 minutes or so taxi ride, and Cahamartín, a 20 minutes or so taxi tide. The closest train station is Atocha.

I didn't know the hotel included breakfast. You could buy it there and it was ok. I would recommend venturing out though. There are several places close by and one very good bakery with breakfast that was very popular. Check at the desk. They are always very nice and helpful.
