My friends and I went to Madrid without much idea on how to go around except for the travel tips and places I found here on trip advisor. We stayed at Hostal Villagracia for the first two nights and it was HORRIFIC! Seriously. Luckily, we had to leave after two days because the room was booked already. Then we found Hostal Greco. It was easy to find like any other hostals in the Sol area and the room we were given was a gem as compared to the other one. We paid 65euros/night split it into three and it was just around 22.5. The space was good enough for three. Everything was clean and the old couple who owned the place was warm and nice too even if we speak very little Spanish. Next time I come around Madrid, I will sure stay here again. Great value for money!

I've been there three nights with a friend of mine. First of all, the room was way different from the one you can see immediatly here in the tripadvisor profile. I can tell that anyway it is very clean and the room smells good. There was anyway a big problem. Every single day there was someone playing the piano all afternoon long. It was very annoying, since we couldnt sleep and rest.

It seemed the ideal place to spend our holiday in Madrid. It is located near the center, near the "Gran Via" and the metro station.
The hostel is on the second floor of a building in common with ordinary homes. Upon our arrival we were given a key to open the main door of the ground floor. You will be given also a small map, very useful.
In the bedroom there is a bathroom with shower, a closet with a safe inside, refrigerator and TV.
The decor is spartan and dated so you have to adapt if you're used to the 4 stars, but for those who don't need lux is just fine.
There is no breakfast, not even to be paid separately, but this has the advantage of being able to leave in the morning and have breakfast in the bars of the adjoining streets.
There is free wirelless which unfortunately does not work perfectly in the rooms (at least not in ours), so we went to use internet in a small sitting room next to reception.
Staff friendly and solar and willing to satisfy your requests.
I recommend it to people who want to stay in Madrid at a few steps from the Gran Via and Puerta del Sol.

I would stay here again as it's the best location IN Madrid and a great price - I suppose it's not a romantic boutique hotel by any stretch of the imagination but it had comfy beds and a bathroom which has seen better days, the location and price is the main advantage,

A basic Madrid Hostal with reasonable size room with small fridge but no electric jug for a coffee. Good bathroom. More expensive than others we stayed which were similarly placed. No key card so you have to buzz twice each time to get in. Exterior is covered in scaffolding although we were not aware of any work going on.
