I always stay at La Ciudadela Hotel whenever I visit Barcelona. The last time I stayed here was mid September this year.
I really love the hotel and restaurant. Every one of the staff are so friendly, helpful and welcoming, so I think of it as my home in Barcelona.
The rooms are spotlessly clean and it’s lovely looking out onto Parc from the front rooms.
The reception staff went ‘the extra mile’ and were exceptionally helpful finding a clinic for me to get a ‘fit to fly’ test to return to the UK, helping upload all my test results etc.. onto the airline website and printing off paper copies of all the paperwork and boarding passes. I cannot thank them enough.
The waiters are so friendly and welcomed me back to the hotel/restaurant after two and a half years. The food in the restaurant delicious, I especially recommend all the seafood dishes, desserts and breakfasts.
I was so lucky to have found this hotel a few years ago and I hope to return soon.
I highly recommend it for a great stay in Barcelona.

The room was a bit small but the shower in the bathroom fantastic. They cleaned our room daily. The breakfast was cheap and more than enough. The hotel is within walking distance to plaza Katalonia and the beach. The food is a must try and the service exceptional. Especially Valentino was really friendly and helpful with everything we needed.

This review is of the restaurant. Our friends accompanied us for a late lunch at an outdoor table within the tent out front. We had a pitcher of sangria - delicious! - a starter of delectable olives (paprika?) and two paella platters, one with seafood and one with pork and chicken. We all agreed the meal was heavenly! Very good service, such flavorful and hearty dishes. Very reasonable prices also!

I might not have minded the wet towels when we arrived, or the broken toilet, or when the pipes had to be repaired, and we had no water, but every time we needed something, even as simple as ice for our drinks, we had to interrupt the extremely busy restaurant staff to ask for hotel service. That, and the bars and padlock over the exit out the sliding glass doors - FIRE HAZZARD??? Until management prioritizes the hotel over their successful restaurant; there are much nicer places to stay in Barcelona

I staryed at this hotel for two nights at the beginning of a wandering trip through Catalonia, French and Spanish sides, and then again for one night before catching my flight back to the United States.

I really liked it, and would recommend it to any serious budget traveler. I paid 65 euros, which included all taxes, for an exterior room with a large window, that I believe was double-glazed to block out street noise. At least I wasn't bothered by street noise. In late July, early August, all I really wanted was air conditioning and a private bath. And cleanliness. I got all of these.

I also liked the location. Quiet, facing a beautiful park, but no more than a 15-minute walk to the more heavier-trafficked tourist areas. It's metro stop is Arc de Tirumphe, on the convenient No. 1 metro line. It's near Estacio Nord, which is great if you're taking buses to other areas in northern Catalonia, and France. And a stone's throw from the Chocolate Museum, El Born. La Ribera, the Caterina market, and walking distance to Barceloneta. Location t was one of the reasons I chose it.

Yes, there was some noise at night. You will hear banging doors, but it doesn't last long, and at these pirces, you need to adjust your expectations. I recommendi this hotel as a great value for budget-conscious travelers, who might enjoy a more local, but still convenient, neighborhood.

The hotel is really about 30 rooms above a very good, established traditional-style restaurant. You'll have to drag your bags up a flight of stairs, but both times I had to do this, help was graciously offered.

I thought the restaurant was excellent. Tradtional, hearty , good food--huge portions at reasonable prices. Not chic and hip, but very good. The real thing. At least it seemed that way to me.

I want to single out one staff member, whose name I believe was Yolanda--she's multilingual--English, French, of course Spanish, and likely Catalan, and goodness knows what other languages. So if I have your name wrong, you know who you are. She helped me enormously (my Spanish is limited), always with extreme graciousness, and really made my stay a lot easier.

The hotel offers Internet service in the lobby. Ok, I think it should improve its ability to print boarding passes for passengers, but this is minor.

Again, this is not the Ritz, or any other 5-star hotel. But if you're watching your budget, and like quiet neighborhoods that are still convenient, and safe, his is an excellent choice. I agree with the very positive Frommer reivew. A great value for the price. I'll likely be back in December.

This hotel has a central location and yet away from the noise. We stayed at the corner room (rm#118) which gives us a nice view of the la ciudadela park right across the street and also the Arc de Triomphe. According to Frommer's this hotel is fairly new, constructed only in 2005 I think. Rooms are clean and contemporary. It has AC and flat screen TV, only that all the channels are in Spanish. My only compaints is that there are no telephones and safe inside the rooms. At night you can hear the noise when they close the restaurant and then again early in the morning when they open. For breakfast it is convenient to get a cup of cappucino & croissant, for 2 people we paid only about 5Euro, which is not bad. We did not eat dinner or lunch there but they seem to have a good menu, they are mostly busy at lunch time. If you are interested in biking around Barcelona you can rent from ---.... they have a station right outside of the hotel but you will have to get the ticket online. If not the Turistic bus is a good option, 23Euro for 2 days or 19Euro for 1 day.

We visited Barcelona for 6 days and prior to our visit could not find a hotel with vacancies in the heart of the City Centre. Once we arrived we realised why...they was a mobile phone exhibition taking place which meant all the hotels were fully booked, particularly the one's around Las Ramblas. However, this 'gem' of a place proved to be perfect and in my opinion located in a much nicer part of the city. The metro system is a cheap, hassle free way to get around (if you are staying a few days I would recommend getting a 10 trip metro pass for 6.90 Euros.) From the hotel there is a small walk to the 'Arc de Triomph' station but then you can hop on a train to anywhere in the city in minutes...Brilliant!! The hotel itself overlooks Cuitadella Park and the Zoo Museum. We stayed in room 103 and the view was perfect, no night noise either which is another bonus at staying at this location. For eating out I would recommend 'Colors' which was a fantastic restaurant on C/Princesa...A fantastic eating experience and superb value for money. A bottle of wine a mere 7 Euros and most main courses are 14-18 Euros all served and presented in style!! I would definately return to Barcelona and would definately want to stay here again!!

We had a very nice stay here for about 4 nights. The rooms are very clean and nice. The beds are very comfy. They provide room clening service daily. The hotel is very well positioned, near the Arc de Triomf. After eating in other places and being unimpressed, we discovered that the best food was exactly at our hotel. They serve very, very tasty food and prices are reasonable. Tha staff was polite but not very friendly except for Angello, he was extremely warm and helpful.
